Taylor

A finely-made performance guitar with a solid spruce top, sapele back and sides, and Taylor Expression System electronics.

The all-solid Taylor experience continues with the updated 2012 314ce Sapele/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar. Crisp, black binding flanks the satin-finish sapele back and sides and glossy Sitka spruce top, and then continues up the fretboard. The 300 Series is truly the performer’s workhorse, combining technology and craftsmanship with understated style. A Grand Auditorium body, Venetian cutaway, and the Taylor Expression System™ add up to a versatile guitar that's perfect for stage and home.

Sapele/Sitka
The warm tone and open midrange of sapele balances the bright and snappy characteristics of a Sitka spruce top. The resulting combination provides the perfect guitar for strong, rhythmic playing styles.

Grand Auditorium (GA)
The GA is Taylor’s most versatile and popular shape, excelling at light-touch fingerstyle to full-blown strumming. Great for miking and recording, the GA’s balanced mid-range and bright tone exemplify the Taylor voice.

Expression System
Using proprietary pickup technology developed at Taylor, the Expression System amplifies your guitar with an unrivaled, natural live sound. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally-clean amplified sound. It’s your tone. Amplified.

Comments about Taylor 314ce Sapele/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Sounds better plugged in than anything else in head to head comparisons -- just use a balanced TRS cable. There is not a better guitar for performing live for the money.

Unplugged this one has a nice sound with plenty of top end and a nice warm low end. It's balanced but slightly scooped. It's a sound that works well for a lot of things. It makes a fun couch guitar too.

Comments about Taylor 314ce Sapele/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm in my 5th year of owning this Acoustic guitar as a professional musician in the twin cities.

The Good: The more I play this guitar, the more I love it. This has been my main acoustic for a long time and Ive logged thousands of hours into in it the past 5 years. This guitar sounds perfect acousticly and it is only getting better with age.

The Bad: I've had to get the expression system changed 2 times since buying it. Thankfully it was free because it was under warranty *SIDENOTE* Taylor has an AMAZING warranty, I havent had to pay for any repairs on this guitar. Still annoying to have your guitar in the shop for something so stupid 2 times. I'm also not crazy about how the expression system sounds plugged in. The only reason I almost got rid of this guitar was because of how uninspired I was hearing this guitar straight into a system. I fixed that by buying an Avalon U5(best DI I ever owned).

The Ugly: The case is easily the worst quality case I have ever owned. As a professional musician I move my guitar around a lot. Up to 6 or 7 times a week. The handle on the case broke off 3 times and each time I had to pay out of pocket to fix it as it is not under warranty. The most recent time it broke off I decided it was time to get something new. I purchased a Mono M80 acoustic case, since then I have only had good experiences moving my guitar.

Bottom Line: This guitar is great. My only problems with this guitar have been the accessories and extras(expression system, case). All in all this guitar is great and some people might not even notice the expression system problems I had. I would for sure recommend this guitar to anyone looking to buy a semi-professional quality acoustic guitar.

Like going from a Ford to a BMW

Comments about Taylor 314ce Sapele/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have spent many hours playing, debating and narrowing down my options to get a new mid-level "good" guitar, and I have found it! The 314ce plays like a dream. Don't let the body size fool you, the projection is unreal. The ebony fretboard board in concert with the neck size and shape allows for fast play or rhythmic strumming. Both styles produce crisp, vivid sounds with easy movement around the neck. The updated acoustics offer complicated free use and impressive clarity.

If you are debating between the laminate 214 or all wood 314, wait and save a bit more, it's worth every penny!

Comments about Taylor 314ce Sapele/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for 7 years. This is a very well made and easy playing guitar. Unplugged sound is very bright and unmistakably Taylor. Plugged in the Taylor Expression System is second to none! Mine is the older 2 AA battery setup, however they come with the ubiquitous 9v now. This guitar is better suited for light to medium strumming and finger style playing.

Comments about Taylor 314ce Sapele/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

When I set out to buy an acoustic guitar in the $2000 range, I played many Martins, Gibsons, Breedloves, and Larivees. While all of these guitars were good, none played as well or sounded better to me than the Taylor 314ce. It sounded great unplugged, but when I plugged it into the in-store PA, it just blew me away. The expression system amplifies without distorting or altering the natural tone of the guitar. This guitar is extremely versatile as well. It can handle strumming and fingerpicking with ease. I mainly use my Taylor to lead worship with a large band. The sound guy loves my guitar because it's so easy to eq. If you're thinking about purchasing this guitar, go play one!
