OVERVIEW

The sweet, distinct tonality of cedar.

The addition of a Western red cedar top to the mahogany-bodied Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric results in a warmer, more slowly-developing, blooming sound than traditional spruce-topped instruments. With its rich complement of overtones the 514CE has become a favorite among players seeking chordal warmth and rich harmoncs. Striking rosewood binding and an abalone rosette beautifully complement the cedar's robust coloration.Taylor's Grand Auditorium body has the same depth and width as a dreadnought, but with a narrower waist width and depth that adds increased string-to-string definition with enormous detailed picking dynamics. The 514CE takes to medium strumming just as readily as it shines on fingerpicked passages.Designed to faithfully reproduce your guitar's native tone, the Expression System utilizes patented Dynamic Sensors to capture top and string vibration like never before. Created in partnership with renowned audio pioneer, Mr. Rupert Neve, the Taylor ES is seamlessly integrated into the design of the guitar from the ground up. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally clean amplified sound. The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. The ultraviolet-cured finish on the 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.

Great for acoustic electric

Comments about Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2011 Model):

I own this guitar and it is great as an acoustic electric instrument. It does not hold up acoustically to my Martin OM28V, nor should one expect it to. First of all, it is a cutaway. I have never found a cutaway that sounds as good as a full body high end acoustic. They are different animals. We are comparing apples to oranges. This is not really an acoustic guitar. It is a cutaway, shallow body guitar with a pickup. This reduces the total acoustic sound output. I agree this is a fantastic guitar for what it is, but it won't hold up acoustically to a high end Martin, Collings or Santa Cruz. If you are after an acoustic electric, this is worth looking into. If you are after a fantastic acoustic only guitar that peels paint off the wall, look elsewhere.

Take it from an old player....

Comments about Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2011 Model):

I've been around guitars all my life and have played/owned many. My 514ce is by far the most enjoyable playing and sounding instrument, acoustic or electric, and the fretboard is so easy o manage. The feel is smooth, the sound is steady across the strings, and the effects available are always well-received. My choice guitar, and I play it so much that I'll soon need new frets. This is one excellent balance of woods and manufacturing detail/design.

Comments about Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2011 Model):

I have never played an acoustic that suite me better. From the moment I picked this guitar up, I knew I had to own it. All the details, intonation, finish, Playability....everything was perfect and immaculate. If you are a fingerstyle guitarist to moderate strummer, this guitar will be your best friend, The cedar top really complements the mahogany back and sides. I can't tell you haw many people have told me this is the nicest guitar they have ever played, I must agree as well. On the other hand if you are a hard strummer and you want a lot of bass reponse. I would not recomend this guitar. The tone is very balanced, and in my opinion is not as responsive to hard playing. I love this guitar... And if it could ever be said " this is the last one honey, I promise!"then I would have to say this is the guitar.

Comments about Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2011 Model):

I know a guy who has one of these, and it sound incredable. I have seen people like Paul Colman of the Newsboys solo act, and it sounds amazing. I have seen the other reviews where if you play hard the strings snap easier than other guitars. psshhh, I have seen people play hard on these, maybe it is the older models that have the old fishmans in them. The new electronics sound great from wht I have heard of these. This is My Dream guitar and if I have $ any time soon, I will have it in no time.

Comments about Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2011 Model):

This guitar does not last long at all. It sounds ok I guess, but after throwing it against a giant pile of bricks several times over, it just broke. I was very disappointed. I went to GameStop and put my money to better use by buying the latest version of Dungeons & Dragons. I am currently a level 24 half-elf druid, foos!

One of my "go to" guitars - and it has plenty of competition!

By Martin Weiss

from Woodsrock, CT & Martha's Vineyard

Comments about Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2011 Model):

2005 model and still looks and plays beautifully - easy truss adjustments and simple maintenance free electronics.
Exceptional tone and crisp high end sustain throughout the neck and very very clean through an amp. I use a Fender acoustic amp and it's a superb combo for small bars or medium halls. Great for finger picking and tight with 5th and 3rd fret capos. Never a problem and an easy neck.
Not the "high end" as far as inlays , etc., but you can get that if you want to drop another few thousand dollars and not get one iota in difference in sound!
Very reasonably priced for a guitar I choose oftentimes over my 1947 Martin D-28 or Tacoma Koa PPK240 or any number of Ovations and other members of my stable.

Comments about Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2011 Model):

ive had this guitar about 11 yrs and its a treasured keepsake ,i love it,ive been playing 20 yrs and this has been a great friend .this guitar strumms awesome, cause i smack the crap out of it,much louder than my friends 814 also, and no lie about the fingerpicking . it really shines with a balanced sound.u hear all the strings distinctly .i have the old fishman system though.i cant speak for the new expression system.i did have to change the pickup the other day the store put a thinline martin pickup in it and it still sounded great,i get a great sound through a fender acoustasonic when i play live.but i cant say enough about how much i love it .it is a longtime friend.and a blessing from God

As close to perfect as it gets.

By TJH-wfQYg

from Portland, Maine

Comments about Taylor 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (2011 Model):

I've had mine for 4 years. I've recorded with it, played live with it (a lot), and it is absolutely most beautiful sounding, physically attractive, consistent, and durable instrument I have ever played. I haven't heard the new expression system, but I can tell you that I have no complaints with the fishman electronics that came with mine. My only problem is that I strum and pick pretty hard, and the G string has a tendency to break at the bridge. Other than that, this guitar is absolutely amazing. Buy this thing now!
