Love- This is an incredibly nice guitar. It is as precise as you can get and the tone is just beautiful. This is one of those guitars that you have to force yourself to not pick it up every time you walk past it.Hate- The electronics. I had the old 1.5 volt expression system that gave me nothing but trouble. I sent it to Taylor for the new 2010 model upgrade (at my expense). They did a great job and got it done quickly but I'm still not impressed with it. The expression is kind of a "one trick pony". It replicates the natural acoustic sound pretty well (with some tweaking) but thats it. It doesn't really have any "bite" and frankly I just don't trust it and I can't get it to sound right even through my Bose. I think that if you have a guitar of this caliber, you shouldn't feel like you need to bring a back-up. I have guitars that are alot cheaper that I trust more and they sound better plugged in. They're also not so sensitive to climate and the frets wear better.Bottom line-If I had to do it all over, I would buy something else. This guitar is really high maintenance and for gigging, I just don't see the expression system as the answer.

My buddy has owned this one for a few years and it's a wonderful guitar. It plays itself. The tone is phenomenal, and it sounds just as great plugged in.As good a guitar as it is, the price is just too high. It's a shame, too, because a lot of people would love to own this one but for the cost. I bought the Gibson Songwriter a/e instead and am very pleased.

Taylor 814 ce

By Terry Seaborn

from Panama City Beach, Fl

SWEEEET!!! This is the perfect guitar that can straddle the the fence and be spot on no matter the type of music or venue you play. The action is like butter straight out of the case and with the right acoustic amp it really shows off it's Expression electronics without the slightest of tweeks. The people at Musician's Friends treated me like I was a friend of the owner and made me know that I had made a great purchase. Even the UPS man knew that he was delivering a special piece because it had Tayor on the outside of the box. I can't say enough about the craftsmanship of this guitar. Tayor take pride in each piece and it shows. Go pick one off the wall at your local store and just prove me wrong. And then give Musician's Friend a call and feel the love!
Top notch
Can't beat it

Incredible Guitar!

By Jason Porter

from San Diego, CA

Sonds and looks incredible! You won't be disappointed!
This guitar has all of the features you need and way more. Gold tuners, lots of abalone, and the flamed maple binding is beautiful. The guitar sounds amazing plugged in and unplugged.
Well it's a Taylor. The guitar is flawless! Built nice and tough.
A little bit pricey, but well worth the 3 grand if you can afford it.

Taylor 814ce Tobacco

By barry suckle

The neck of this guitar fits like a glove. The Taylor 814ce is easy to play and makes playing fun. I have played many acoustic electric guitars and like this one the best of all. Sounds that come from this instrument are great.
This guitar is a beautifully designed instrument with great sound. The controls are in the perfect place.
This guitar is put together with great craftsmanship! The woods are fantastic.

Taylor 814ce

By Kirby Hutchison

from Arizona

This is my first Taylor and now I understand what everyone was talking about. Beautiful instrument! The wood and the finish are top shelf. I thought I wanted a Gibson Songwriter, but just couldn't match the sound of this 814ce.
A little pricey, but I plan to keep this one forever.

Awsome instrument

By Ishmial

from Midwest

I bought this guitar about a week ago and it is by far the best acoustic guitar I have ever played. I tried out the 914 and could not tell the difference in the sound at all, but the boutique look just wasnt for me. I also tried the Martin performing artist series. Real close call as far as sound but the playability was better for me on the Taylor. The Martin has a little heavier action and more of a bluegrassy sound but is still a fine instrument. The 814 has a wonderful balance between all strings and the volume is good, clear, and loud. Action was set up perfect from the factory and very easy to play. Do tourself a favor and check this one out if you are looking in this price range. I got the tobacco burst and the fit and finish is flawless.

Taylor know how to build a guitar

By DckrMusic1

from Aledo, Illinois

Ask me a question

The 814ce is totally awesome in sound and feel. Your fingers glide over the neck and the action is what most players dream about. This instrument was meant for fingerstyle playing, yet when strummed hard and fast there is no annoying overtones coming out of the body. The ES system is fantastic especially when using it in the studio or small venue. Some may say that it is on the pricey side, but I have found out you get what you pay for. Playing this guitar is like moving up to a Rolls Royce.

great looking, and sounding

By Meho in Toledo Oh

from Toledo Oh

The features 4.0 was because the neck is as thick as a classical. Too fatigueing for hours of playing compared to a Gibson or Martin. But the sound,, MaMa Mia!! The smooth crisp full "sound" is not catagorized or it would be OFF THE FREEKING CHART!! A five is an insult, it's a 1000. Meho in Toledo Oh

Thank you Bob.

By ronaldo

from Bethany, MO

I would have never even picked this thing up if the price tag would have been showing. Lucky for me, it wasn't. I plugged this thing in and it blew me away. Fully intended on buying a Gibson Songwriter, but the Taylor expression system is ridiculously simple and as true to life as it gets. All my life I've been banging on acoustics trying to get the most out of them I could. From the first day I played this one it spoke to me and said "easy there fella, you just play and I'll take care of the sound". Thank you Bob Taylor, you are the man.
