Comments about Baby Taylor Sapele/Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

In all my years of playing and owning dozens of guitars I have had only one guitar, my Baby Taylor which repeatedly came apart. The first time body came apart from the sides. Taylor determined it was a defect it was insufficiently glued and not user issue. They replaced the body. The next Baby Taylor's top came apart at the glue seam from the bridge to the back of the guitar. Upon examining it I realized that it was not properly glued there was almost no glue in the seam. Taylor determined that the guitar was not kept in a room with at least 40% humidity and told me the issue was low humidity. I tried to explain that it is stored in a humidified house with multiple other instruments some from the 1920s on to recent and multiple brands and the only guitar effected was the Taylor. The gentleman in the Warranty Department asked me to pay for a new body. I asked if they would repair it and was told "it is not worth repairing" we just replace the body". I tried to reason with them and asked them to look at the seam but they would not budge. I think Taylor does a great job of advertizing and promoting its instruments they look good and both my Baby Taylors sounded good. But in my opinion they do not stand up and Taylor does not stand behind their guitars, unless of course you are a high profile artist. I do not now how the other models are made but I would never buy another Baby Taylor and after my experience with the customer service I would never buy any Taylor.

Comments about Baby Taylor Sapele/Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this a few months ago. I needed a small guitar to take on trips and to the office. I bought it at the local music store after playing it and a Taylor GS Mini. Good sound, great for string bends w/the shorter scale. I do mostly fingerstyle on it. Folk, Celtic, blues. There's a wee bit of buzz on the B string (it's always the B string ain't it?). I love the portability, playability and the sound of this Baby. It has amazingly good sustain. I plan to swap out the bridge pins for some harder ones. It's very easy to play and be creative with this always at hand. For the money, I am well satisfied. At work between clients, I often play this! The store had a few Baby Taylor spruce top models as well and I played them as well. They tended to have emphasis on bass and treble, with a scooped mid. The Mahogany sound was much fuller and sounds good with voice added. The spruce sounded a bit thin and tinny for my ears. I'd say get the mahogany if you are in doubt btween the two.

Comments about Baby Taylor Sapele/Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

THIS GUITAR IS FUN TO PLAY! I can't recommend it to anybody looking for a big sound like a full sized guitar....but that's not it's designed purpose. I bought this for use as a travel guitar to bring camping. For this purpose, it's ideal. I had the opportunity to compare the Sitka vs Mahogany tops and settled on the Mahogany BT-2. The Mahogany has a better mid-response which helps to tame the brightness of the small body.

I'll say it again: this guitar is simply fun to play. The action is as good as you get on an acoustic. The shorter (22.75") scale makes the string tension lower than a full sized guitar. This makes it possible to bend the E and B strings like on an electric. (The wound G string will only bend a half-step) The guitar is small enough that you can cradle it uke-style and play standing without a strap if necessary.

The fit and finish is bare-bones but solid. It takes a while to get used to the neck bolts through the 16th fret but this doesn't have any effect on playability. The matte varnish finish won't show minor scratches. The action is good and the tuners don't slip. The guitar won't win any beauty contests, but I repeat: that's not what you're buying it for. For playing around the campfire or at the beach, this guitar can't be beat. You can pack it into a small car with all your gear and still have room for a cooler full of (insert your favorite beverage).

I would recommend this guitar to anybody looking for a decent travel guitar that plays well and sounds half-decent.
