    Warmth, clarity, and personality.

A solid Western red cedar top on the Taylor GS5 Grand Symphony acoustic guitar produces a uniquely warm and complete tone that's perfect for fingerstyle and vocal accompaniment. The tropical American mahogany back and sides add projection without brittleness while ivoroid body and fretboard binding provide visual pizzazz. Abalone on the rosette and fretboard microdots is truly sublime. Ebony bridge and rosewood headcap.

Bob Taylor personally designed the Grand Symphony guitar body style for a unique sound. A higher, wider waist and a rounder lower bout result in distinctive tone with deep piano-like bass, rich mids, and clear, balanced highs--all with plenty of volume.

Comments about Taylor GS5 Mahogany/Cedar Top Acoustic Guitar (2010 Model):

Mine is nearly 20 years old and sounds and plays like new. It has been a great "best friend" for this old timer. It sounds like a Steinway, and plays like an old Stratocaster set up correctly

      Best guitar yet

Comments about Taylor GS5 Mahogany/Cedar Top Acoustic Guitar (2010 Model):

I recently purchased the Taylor GS5 after playing many Taylors plus owning several (914 CE, 414CE, GC8). This is what I have been looking for. The previous reviewers have captured the essence of this model, so I will only say that it is the best sounding guitar I have ever played, and I have played over 30 or so in the last year. I also have a Martin OMC aura that I like, and I would be hard pressed to have to chose between them. The Martin I have was in the words of some friends employed by a local retailer the best sounding guitar they had ever heard in their store. The GS5 will hold its own with the Martin in every respect. The difference in the two is size and very subtle tone differences. Both guitars have exceptional bass definition plus fantastic mid range and trebles. The action on the Taylor is a little lower and is a little easier to play. Most of my playing is for church worship, and fingerstyle at home. I use a pick for strumming, and a classical style for fingerstyle. Since I played classical for many years I love both guitars for classical music as well as blues, folk, and rock. Most Taylors seem a little bright to me, so the GS5 is perfect. Also the case is top quality and seems to retain the humidity level well. While cedar and mahogany are not the most exotic looking woods they are purposeful and produce the best all around tone to my ears. Thank you Bob Taylor for an excellent instrument

      Blown Away!

Comments about Taylor GS5 Mahogany/Cedar Top Acoustic Guitar (2010 Model):

I own over 10 guitars of both acoustic and electric. Martin,Fender,Gibson, ect, ect. This guitar has a pristine piano like quality and is it loud. I was really surprised how loud it is. Now, it does NOT have the base of my Martin. And anybody who says it does, is being less than honest. However, it has a crystal like tone that I don't have in any of my other guitars. I wanted the cedar/mohogany combination, as it is different than anything else in my collection. I don't often sell my guitars, but this one is staying in stable. I gave all 5's and I don't typically do that. Keep in mind this is a typical Taylor guitar that has that unique balance. No one sound is overshadowed. The case fits it beautifully as well and appears to be well made. All in all, a teriffic guitar.

      Taylor GS5 with ES Pickup

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Taylor GS5 Mahogany/Cedar Top Acoustic Guitar (2010 Model):

I was very surprised I chose this guitar. The cedar top and mahogany body are definitely a good combination for fingerpicking, but I have had reservations with cedar tops. I was looking at and playing Taylor rosewood/spruce combinations with the ES pickup system. That was until I heard this guitar's pickup system through a high-quality amp. This tonewood combination is perfect for amplification and playing fingerstyle. The clarity and presence of the cedar/mahogany combination has superior definition to the Tayor ES models with rosewood and spruce when amplified. Without the ES system I would still prefer a rosewood/spruce guitar. This is my 3rd Taylor and I purchased it for playing gigs as both a solo guitarist and to accompany vocalists. It needs to be properly set up however. The action is too low and causes the strings to buzz. That is a simple fix, and should improve the sustain of the guitar when it is adjusted. I just purchased it yesterday. I have owned several Martins and other quality brands, but have found the acoustic sound of the guitar is rarely accurately projected as the amplified sound I am looking for. With this guitar, all I need is a good amp or PA and just a little reverb in the mix.

      Best Taylor Yet!

Comments about Taylor GS5 Mahogany/Cedar Top Acoustic Guitar (2010 Model):

Everything your have read about this being a great guitar is true. It has that Taylor signaure clearity of tone ans bass that seem to be shot out of a cannon. The bass is not over-powering or muddy. It is clear, well defined and powerful. This guitar can handle any style of play whether strummed, finger or flat picked. Compared to other Taylor models it is a very good value for the money. I love the warmth of the cedar top. It has all the sparkle of a Taylor but also includes the warmth of a well aged and broken in instrument right out of the factory. If I'm still able to play in 20 years this thing (GS5) will be untouchable in sound by anything else made today!

Comments about Taylor GS5 Mahogany/Cedar Top Acoustic Guitar (2010 Model):

I've played this guitar numerous times in music stores and all I can say is OUTSTANDING. I would have to say that about all of the GS Models, but this one is definitely meant for fingerstyle playing. It is also just beautiful to look at, but hey,,,,,, it's a Taylor.

      Wonderful Sound

      By MNGuitar

Comments about Taylor GS5 Mahogany/Cedar Top Acoustic Guitar (2010 Model):

I recently purchased the Taylor GS mahogany/cedar top guitar and could not be happier with my selection. Taylor guitars are well made and the tonal balance and resonance of this particular model is something you have to experience to fully appreciate. I tried the spruce top GS model but prefer the more mellow sound of the cedar (if you like a brighter tone try the spruce). The only addition I have made was to add a pick guard (purchased through Taylor). If you are looking for a wonderfully constructed, beautiful 6 string with an incredible sound, try the Taylor GS series guitar, you won't be sorry.
