Comments about The Loar L0-16 Acoustic Guitar:
The very first thing that matters to me on a guitar, acoustic or electric, is a big neck with a wide nut. My other guitars are all baseball bats - 1" from nut to body - with 1.75 nuts. This neck is not 1" big, but it is substantial and the nut is a true 1.75.
I wasn't sure of the sound right out of the box. I played it some and then put it aside for a day. I went around to friends and played similar guitars and even played a couple Gibson's/Kalamazoo's. I played similar guitars in the same price range and cheaper. This is the one! I'd buy this guitar before I bought a Kalamazoo if only for the neck and because I can gig this guitar hard and not be out the price of a car. I could not more highly recommend this guitar.

Comments about The Loar L0-16 Acoustic Guitar:
I like several of The Loar guitars I have played. The LO-16 best compares with the LH-200. The LO-16 with shorter scale and wider nut is better for me. The shorter scale enables bends and the 1.75 nut lends itself to fingerpicking as well as flat picking. The LH-200 felt a little cramped in the first position and the neck was a bit thin. The neck on the LO-16 is a little meatier, which is my preference.
It came set up very well. Frets are nicely dressed, bone nut is well cut, good intonation up the neck and the finish (black) is very cool. The only upgrades I plan to make are heavier bridge pins (Tusq) and I will oil the rosewood board. This guitar gives a lot of bang for the buck!

Comments about The Loar L0-16 Acoustic Guitar:
I have had mine about two weeks. It really stays in tune. I really like the tuners. Action came very playable. Doesn't need any adjustments.Finish is just average but Black looks cool. Great sounding. I wish I would of had this good of guitar 40 years ago when I was first learning to play. Great value for the price. Would recommend Loar guitar to anyone if they are all as well made as this.

Comments about The Loar L0-16 Acoustic Guitar:
Great Sound and Feel for Country Blues. I like 00 size guitars, own several including old LG-1, old Taylor 412, Martin 00 and 000 among others. This ranks at the top for fingerstyle Blues, Robert Johnson type stuff. The width of the fretboard and the string spacing makes this particularly useful and easy to play for that sort of music. Unusually loud for the body size. Excellent Blues tone. I would highly recommend this at three times the price. Whoever designed this one thought it through - way better than comparably priced import guitars like the Epiphone EL-OO, Takamine New Yorker, etc. I've pretty much played em all and the only thing close to this is my old LG-1 and that one is too delicate and Ladder-braced. THis one is X braced and has the scale length of an OM rather than a short scale. Better for volume, makes string bending harder, better for slide. Bought this used from Musician's Friend as usual they grade the condition of the instrument lower than it is - this one was clean and didn't even have the plastic removed from the pickguard. The truss rod needed to be loosened - but that was about it. Ready to play. The looks are also rather striking. The neck is rather meaty - it's the kind of neck that those who like the original guitars from that period will find familiar. Hard to go wrong with this one.
Comments about The Loar L0-16 Acoustic Guitar:
Maybe it was because I had modest expectations but the Loar LO-16BK knocked my socks off. My ratings here are relative to my initial expectations. I was buying it as a gift for someone else but I don't want to let go of it. Much more sound with more subtle tonal variations possible than I would expect in an instrument at this price. Clean build quality, nice finish (love the black!), surprisingly well set up out of the box. Looks to be a bone nut and saddle (again, very nice at this price). Out of two dozen or so transactions over the last 40 years, this is the second guitar I have purchased based on how it looks and I got lucky . . . I am very pleased with how well it plays and how good it sounds. It's just fun to play. As far as vintage "vibe", it does have a familiar slight funkiness to the tuners that reminds me of an old Gibson my roommate had back in '72. Fully functional but with personality.
Will it match my Flammang EL? Of course not, but I wish I had something this good and this affordable when I was starting out. I expect this guitar will come along when I go to places I would feel uncomfortable taking my most expensive instruments.
