Inspired by the incredible craftsmanship and design of the Golden Age, The Loar LH-200 is an acoustic guitar with a classic pre-war body style, outstanding features, and a strong, full tone. From the vintage sunburst finish to the open gear butterbean tuners, The LH-200 is modeled after small-bodied flat top acoustic guitars from the 1930's.
The acoustic guitar features a solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a mahogany neck, ivory-colored body binding and a rosewood fretboard.
This model also features a bound peghead with a delicate fern inlay in abalone and mother-of-pearl by veteran designer Greg Rich. Following early 20th century bracing patterns, the LH-200 has an incredibly lightweight body that delivers outstanding projection.

I highly recommend this guitar for any level of player. I have played for almost 40 years and have owned Gibson and Martin. And while I don't say that this guitar is in the same class as those guitars, it will surprise you how good the sound is and how high the quality is.
The Loar LH - 200 guitar is a nice acoustic but as far as features, it is a basic guitar. Nothing special or unique as far as features BUT the tuners work well and hold the guitar in tune. Pins hold the strings well.
This is actually the second Loar that I had ordered from Musicians Friend. The first came and there was some manufacturing errors on the binding around the 5th through 9 fret area. Also the action was not great. I returned it for another one with no manufacturing defects and the action much better than the last one.
Anyway the second guitar I received was in perfect condition. These guitars are made in China and I amd amazed how high the quality is. The sunburst is awesome and there are no flaws that I can find.
As far as tone and sound go, this is a small bodied guitar and you are not going to get a lot of bass out of something so small. I purchased this for a blues guitar reminiscent of the 20's and 30's and it fits the bill perfectly.
For the amount of money and the quality of the instument and the wonderful tone that it produces, you can't go wrong.
Add to that the outstanding service and the guarantee that Musicians Friend gives and you really can't go wrong.

This is the first guitar I bought on line. I wanted to get something I could take in a gig bag and strap it onto my Harley or travel on the plane. It came quick and was in great shape right out of the box. I ran it right up to my man cave and tuned it in and it played great. What a great neck. Good workmanship for the price. The sounde was not great. Kind of tinny. It stays in tune well. The neck was the strongest point. You could put this on any of my Martins and I would be OK with it. I bought the "natural" colored top. Really ugly. Makes me want to put stickers on it. I have never wanted to corrupt a guitar like that but it would be something I will do with this one. But for the price you really can't complain. Will never be somebody's first choice but a great tavel, street, insturment. I would recoment this guitar to a friend dependant on what function he or she was looking for.

Just thought I would comment on my review of the ugly guitar. I sat the guitar in the corner and left it there. During that time I bought and traded several other instruments to the point of psychosis. So last night I pulled that sucker out. Jeez this thing got a great sound for the size. Great neck. It is not as loud as my 28, nor is it as easy to play as my 00018. But for what I payed for it, it is way over the top. I live and Baltimore which is like having an ugly dog. It may not have the visual appeal but it has great character and is much more interesting than those pretty muts with big eyes and seduce you into giving then undeserved love. They work at it and get what they have earned. This is my Baltimore guitar. This is a keeper.

I bought a second hand one in vintage sunburst, to use as an everday guitar that I could afford to leave around at university. I have had lots of admiring comments from guitar teachers and guitar students, who want to know where to get one. I made two adjustments. I swapped in a bone saddle, which I would recommend. Sustain, bass and volume are improved. I also added brass bridge pins. You wouldn't want to do this if you like the bluesy tone, but I prefer a bit more sustain. I have guitars that cost many times more than this, but I would have no hesitation in using this to perform with.

I've played many, many acoustic guitars over the years. My main acoustic is a Taylor 4 series, and I love it.
I wanted to buy a relatively inexpensive acoustic to bring to jams. Found this guitar used in the natural finish, and I can't believe the quality and tone is so high in this price range.
I've played dozens of solid top/laminate sides & back guitars at stores and at jams. Generally, they sound very undistinguished, and don't have the sustain of solid wood guitars. That's to be expected.
Before I even started playing the LH-200, I spent a few moments tapping the top wood in various places. I was instantly knocked out by the rich tone and sustain. It just rang and rang!
That initial impression was confirmed as I started playing (even though the strings needed to be replaced). With a fresh set of Martin 12's, it's really an awesome sounding guitar.
Even with the smaller, folk-sized, body, there's quite a bit of volume; I can get a good range of dynamics.
Also, it's well built and looks great, especially the headstock overlay piece.
Guitars from China used to be junk, back in the day. They've come a long way in quality since then, it appears.

I have owned in excess of 40 acoustics. Without a doubt this is the finest guitar for the money. In fact I have had more expensive Martins and Taylors that weren't as good. Not a high end Martin or Taylor but anything in the five to eight hundred range, this guitar blows them away. I was a bit skeptical to purchase based on the youtube videos, everyone playing blues type riffs. I wasn't sure how other genre's would sound, in a word - incredible! Alice in Chains, Staind, Metallica acoustic riffs sound just like they should. The guitar has sweet low action with no buzzing at all. Stays in tune for ever. I have been playing for a week, with the stock D'Addario strings and haven't touched a tuner. Stunning looks, amazing sound - buy it you won't be sorry!!!

For the money this guitar is an excellent value and the rating is from judging guitars under 500 dollars.. If you compare this guitar to Martins, Taylors or any guitar in this price range then there is no contest.
I still find in hard to believe the sound they achieve for the price...It makes a great guitar for playing blues and it is a great travel guitar...small and light.
Guitar came in great condition, no marks no dents, good finish and it required no set up, action was low and ready to play.

I have owned two other guitars when I was a teenager, both acoustic. And this, LH-200 Small Body Acousitc Guitar, or also known as Jewel (that's what I named her haha) outshines both of them (I believe they were both Yamahas, but my parents got them both for me, and I am afraid I do not know the specifics on them.) The body is small which is perfect for me, because I have small hands and a small frame. But the sound is large and clear. The design and craftsmanship is beautiful. It seems to be staying in tune for days, and now even weeks. I mostly use it for a hobby and a stress reliever and hoping for entertainment for family and friends . I had honestly forgotten how much I loved playing. I would recommend this guitar to anyone who is looking for a great quality small body acousitc guitar, that isn't too expensive.
PS One weird fact - I have had a hard time finding a case for it, because it is a little bit longer then most small body. So I would highly recommend buying one through Musician's Friend to make sure you have the right size.

Just took delivery of a new Loar LH 200. What a great blues box! Looks, sound, playability, and workmanship all rate a big WOW !! Unbelievable guitar for the money. Your results may vary but I say, thanks Loar, this is the best small size guitar I have ever played.

This nice, playable intrument is one that you will want to keep close at hand for the moments when inspiration strikes you. An excellent songwriter's guitar it is well suited for blues in the living room, on the back porch or whever no amplification is needed. Everyone should own one.
This is a basic guitar with a small body that is very comfortable and lightweight. Open Grover tuners work well and the inlay on the headstock is very attractive. Sunburst finish looks great. Neck is comfortable with low action and good intonation.
Nothing fancy, but very well made with good tone. All joints are tight and workmanship and finish are very nice.
For the money you can't beat it.
