I received this guitar yesterday...I'm impressed with the intonation and playability out of the box. I'll end up taking a bit off the botom of the bridge to lower the action a touch, but it's not bad as-is. Tonally, it's a bright yet mellow acoustic dreadnaught with a plywood top. Decent projection...not a ton of bass, but still well balanced. The finish work is not bad, the binding is a bit gaudy, and I'd prefer chrome tuners to the gold. The only major finish issue with the guitar I received is the tuner/preamp section doesn't seat well on the upper bout--it's about 1/16" elevated in its center. The pickup sounds good for a low-end guitar, and has both 1/4" and XLR outputs. However, the XLR is unbalanced and wired wrong (pins 2&3 are shorted together). That said it's an easy fix if you're handy with a soldering iron--either put a transformer to balance it and rewire the xlr, or cut the pcb trace between pins 2&3, which will give you an unbalanced signal with pin 3 hot. If you only intend to use the 1/4", it's not a problem. The tuner is a standard guitar EADGBE only tuner (though the hang tag claims chromatic) and it works pretty well. Also included were a gig bag, a strap, a few picks, the truss rod allen key, a 9V battery, and surprisingly, a learn-to-play guitar CDrom from eMedia. Pretty cool.

Spend the extra dough

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because of its awesome inlays. Really a good looking guitar. After bring it home the Tuner worked, but would never give me an accurate reading especially on the low "E" string. When plugged in it is very unbalanced. you can slide the saddle pickup around and either get all highs or all lows but no happy medium. About a month after having it the bridge started seperating from the guitar and now after having it for about 6 months is barely hanging on and i'm already on the market for a new acoustic. I recommend not buying this guitar

WOW!

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Wow. I recieved this guitar today as a present, and I couldn't be happier. The first thing I noticed was the inlay, which was incredible. The tuner is really accurate. I played for awhile with the factory strings, but upgraded to elixers. It sounds incredible now. Plugged in, it sounds great. The action is great, with no fret buzz. The finish is a little cloudy in places, but its not all that noticable and does not affect the sound.

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I normally play electric but figured i should pick out an acoustic. This was the best sounding guitar in my price range and the best looking too. Fairly warm sound given the size and materials. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out it came with a gig bag (which i later found to be complete crap) and all the needed accesories. Most of my friends think its a $400 guitar and it does indeed play like one. Plugged it it sounds ok but i find it basically sounds like a weak electric as opposed to an amplified acoustic. Basically, you have a decent beater acoustic with a built in tuner for a very low price. If all you need is something to play when you can't plug in, this is a respectable choice.

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Washburn thought this one out pretty well. Lots of pluses and very few minuses. It needed very little set up out of the box. The sound is typical of a dreadnought cutaway. Acoustically it's a bit thin and doesn't project too well, but plugged in... wow! Lots of usable adjustment on the preamp. The tuner is fairly accurate if you're patient between strings. The low z output is a brilliant addition, something one wouldn't normally expect on a guitar at this price point. On the minus side, fit and finish is a bit spotty. Nothing that would affect structural integrity, but there were some sloppy glue joints and finish blemishes on mine. Definitely a five footer as far as that goes. The pickguard, to me, just looks cheap and completely out of place on this guitar. The color isn't even close to any other trim on the guitar. Also, the "included gig bag" is a complete joke. More like a dust cover than anything else. It offers nearly no protection. Mine went straight to the dumpster. Definitely buy a case when you purchase this guitar. All in all though, the DK20CET compares very well to guitars way above it's price as far as sound and playability.

    Made in China

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was surprised by the outstanding appearance right out of the box. Beautiful, and then I tuned it with the onboard tuner, which is the main reason I wanted this guitar(traveler). The first thing wrong was the frets had not been filed correctly, causing scratches to my thumb and forefinger but not deep enough to bring blood, thank goodness! The neck looked warped but needed serious adjusting as all strings had serious vibration. I was really surprised that that it wasn't even close to being set up from the factory. I've played for over 40 years so fixing and setting up is something that's fairly easy for me. After filing the frets, replacing strings, treating the fret board with lemon oil and adjusting the neck--it now sounds quite well. As for a beginner quitar it's OK as long as you can get it set up correctly. Most highly commend the DK20CET. I must have gotten one made on a Friday!haha

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

An excellent guitar for the money you pay. I've seen comments about the gig bag not being good; its a bit flimsy but OK. The guitar plays well and I didn't think the action was all that high. The guitar has a great finish. The pickup sounds decent. Here's my issue however; Washburn needs to include a manual about how to use the onboard tuner. I had to call them to get one and it was a word doc which the guy emailed to me. If you need it ask for the "W2-82 Users Guide and Manual." I also asked what strings it ships with; they are Vinci 12 gauge which is .012, .016, .025, .032, .042, .053. Vinci is a brand Washburn sells on their site and I'm assuming you can get them here to. The strings are OK but I'll probably swap them out.You get a DVD with some cat teaching basic rock stuff; its actually a great DVD for a beginner if you are one. This also comes with a strap for the guitar, straps for the gig bag so you can backpack it and some .096mm picks. Not bad for 200 bucks. They also ought to throw in some info about the pickup!

    Wow!! What a Deal!

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Received this guitar as a Gigging instrument so I wouldn't have to take out my $4500 Guild to clubs and hot outdoor gigs. I used it last night and was amazed at the amplified sound, the playability of the action, and the overall quality of the construction and cosmetics. The tortoise shell binding and inlay is excellent although it makes the Dots on the side of the neck hard to see on stage. The gig bag included holds everything to play it on the gig including a folding stand. I believe this is the best guitar for the money on the market. I will like it even more with my kind of strings on it. Buy with confidence.

I reccomend this to anyone, and the tuners really comes in handy also, and it sounds great its pretty wide which gives it a deepers sounds and very nice, so if you are wondering if you should get this, I would say yes!

Good for the price, but sloppy fretwork

    By heiscreel

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for someone else and was inpressed by the features given its low price. The electronics are pretty decent, but the onboard tuner is not the greatest (an external tuner would be easier to use). I had a hard time keeping it in tune out of the box, but a string change seemed to resolve the issue. The action was good out of the box. The only complaint I have is that the fretwork was really sloppy. The fret ends were sticking out past the fingerboard and very sharp. There was also a poorly seated 10th fret that caused a lot of buzzing. Fortunately I have done some guitar repair work before and I was able to dress and reaseat the offending frets. Still an extra nice looking and sounding entry-level guitar. Washburn should really do a better job of quality control, though, at their China factory as entry-level guitarists are usually not able to do their own fret repairs.

I received my Washburn today and was blown away by how great it looks and sounds straight from the box. I have been playing guitar since 1969. Started on a Gibson SJ and have owned everything from Gretch to Martin. This guitar is every bit as value packed as any I have owned. For the money, you can't beat it. (I am not comparing this guitar to my vintage Gibson, was just qualifying my statement).

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about 5 months now and everything seems to be fine. The tuners are kind of cheap and starting to look bad. One of the bridge pins is popping out, it can be fixed though. Although unplugged it sounds pretty good an inexpensive guitar, I have yet to plug it in. Overall for what I paid for it, it?s a good guitar for learners, I would totally recommend it.

Comments about Washburn DK20CET Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was hoping to get a decent backup guitar when I ordered the Washburn DK20CET Acoustic Electric. This guitar's quality is far above what I expected. The sound is bright and rich, with good resonance. The action is good...close without fret buzz. The body design makes the guitar easy to hold and play. The built-in tuner is great and the XLR output option is an extra not advertised. I rate this guitar as the best for the money I've seen. I have nearly 40 years of playing experience and own Fenders and Gibsons. I mainly play Contemporary Christian music as well rock, blues and jazz, and teach guitar as well. I would recommend this guitar to a beginner or an experienced musician without hesitation.
