A signature guitar with a beautiful top, an extremely fast neck and a powerful Washburn/Lawrence pickup combination.
In order to develop the N24 with Washburn, Bettencourt utilized his extensive knowledge of the guitar and designed this model with a flamed maple top and an extremely fast neck that allows for easy access to higher frets via the Stephen's® Extended Cutaway. A Washburn Humbucker & a Lawrence® L-500 in the bridge make this reverse headstock marvel wail. These super road axes are the gateway to total creativity, just ask Nuno and the thousands of musicians that play them.
Nuno Bettencourt, born in Portugal and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, grew up in a very musical family. In his teenage years he began playing drums, bass and keyboards, but ultimately settled on guitar as his primary instrument. Since then he has become one of the world's greatest guitarists, who draws from an eclectic variety of styles and influences and is a tremendously technical and adept player, with an acute sense of rhythm. Most famous for his role in Boston-area group Extreme, in which Bettencourt recorded five CDs and delivered the hits "More Than Words" and "Hole Hearted", he has also released a solo CD, formed the groups Mourning Widows and Population 1 (which eventually became DramaGods), and was featured in Satellite Party (formed by Perry Farrell). Although they had disbanded in 1995, in 2007, Extreme reunited and headlined Washburn's 125th Anniversary Party at Winter NAMM 2008. For 2009-2011 Nuno joined Grammy Award winning R&B artist Rihanna as music director and lead guitarist on her world tour, playing to hundreds of thousands of fans across Europe and the U.S.

The Washburn neck pickup is actually good.

this is not a bad guitar for the cost. it's better than many of the entry-level guitars out there. I'd like to cover the good with the bad, so that others can be as aware as possible.
the flamed maple is a veneer, and not a slab of wood. but it is a nicer look than the 'vintage' stained look of the regular N24. the extended cutaway is a nice upgrade from my 20 year old N2. it also comes with the L500XL, which is nice. I did call BL-USA, and they did say it is the L500XL although the guitar company site just says the L500.
there are a few construction issues, but easily fixed. the 3-way switch was shorting out, but fixed with a quick re-wire. the push/pull function worked by the volume pot was not working right at all, but fixed with a new push/pull pot. the neck had a bit of an over-bow which was causing from fret buzz and some fretting out, but a bit of a turn of the truss rod handled that. the head of one of the philips-head screws that mounts the locking nut is boogered-up/stripped/out, but there appears to be enough there to get it out and replace it.
the neck pickup is better than I expected for an OEM. I'll still swap it out with the spec pickup for the N4, as I have a spare to use in it.
this does come with the Buzz Feiten Tuning System, although it's not really advertised. do a little research on that before jumping in to it. it also has a Floyd Rose Special, which is pretty much the same quality of a licensed Floyd, but at least it's the real brand, which is also handy if you ever want to upgrade to a better version of the Floyd.
although there are some construction issues, it's nothing that can't be addressed by someone with a basic level of guitar setup knowledge. it's a fun little guitar. I picked it up based on my experience with the N2. I think after handling the tweaks, it will be just as good as the N2, but better because of the small features such as the extended custaway neck access and the 3-way being on the lower horn. it does have a nice resonance to it when unplugged, which is always something I look for in a guitar, as anything else is just electronics, which can be upgraded.
I'm giving it 3 stars because of the contruction/set-up issues. even if those had been perfect, I think it'd have earned a 4... as I'd save a full 5 star for a top-of-the-line model in perfect condition.
