For the price, this is the best travel guitar I've found.
I spent an evening filing down the included extra bridge, and replacing the strings with polyweb light accoustic strings, and that helped immensly. The action is nearly as low as my electric guitars, with very little buzzing and fretting out. I'm still experimenting with the setup, but I'm already very happy.
This guitar DOES NOT sound like a Ukelele. The bass tones come through loud and clean, and the high notes don't suffer for the small size of the guitar. It is very quiet, however, due to it's size.
It took me a while to find a comfortable way to hold this guitar. I've found playing it without a strap is very difficult because the neck is the heaviest part of the guitar. After adjusting the strap a few times, I finally found a sweet-spot, but this guitar will require some adjustment on your part.
I just wanted something to take camping, and use around a fire. At this price point, I won't be too upset if it gets a little rain on it, or smells like a campfire. I would buy another one at the drop of a hat if this one gets broken. I was worried when I first pulled it out, because the factory setup was terrible ... then I saw the spare bridge, and realized I could experiment without any danger of ruining my only bridge. I was VERY impressed by that little detail, and I'm sure I woudln't have tried for such a low action otherwise. The guitar continues to impress me with how level the frets are. I've played far more expensive instruments that needed fret work to get to where I like them.
This little guitar has an adjustable neck, and comes with a spare bridge. I was surprised by this considering the price and the size of the guitar. It comes with everything you need to set the guitar up and make it sound as good as it possible can.
The case fits the guitar very well, and I was able to clip a headstock tuner to the guitar, and still fit it in the case, with the strap on. It's very convienient that everything fits in the case, with plenty of extra room to spare.
Guitar: The guitar sounds very good for it's size, and it looked pretty well made. The soundhole could be sanded a bit, but the glue and binding on mine looked pretty good. The neck feels smooth and comforable. The included strings and strap are about as low-grade as you can imagine, and the factory set-up was terrible.
Case: The case is light, durable, and very comfortable and convienient. However, there are areas where the glue could have been a bit straighter, and the inside lining could have been better fit to the case. Also, as mentioned in every other review, the guitar strap and case smells like kerosine when you first open it. Mine has been airing out for about a week, and it's still noticable, but not nearly as bad as when I first opened it.
For the price, this is the best sounding, easiest to play, easiest to set-up accoustic travel guitar I've found. I've tried several travel accoustics, and some sound like a Ukelele and some are just less compact and more expensive.
The case was a big selling point for me. I got this guitar for camping, and it's nice to know I can throw everything I want in one case, and forget about it. It has room for my slide, capo, tuner, strap, picks and extra strings. It also comes with two straps, so you can use it as a backpack, or as a shoulder-bag.

Comments about Washburn Rover Travel Guitar:
Just got back from a week long trip across the country. I checked this with no problems. Didn't even bother taking it on the plane with me as carry-on. The case is rock solid. I wasn't worried at all, and it came through both flights fine.
The guitar itself has an interesting sound, good volume for a hotel room, but is awkward to play. You can't really rest it on your lap at all. You have to use the strap and even then it's kind of weird, but for a cheap guitar to take with you to practice in hotel rooms this is pretty good.
Some of the frets on mine are bent up towards the top edge of the fretboard, but it doesn't seem to be a problem as far as playability is concerned.

After years of not playing guitar, I started playing again! I carry it with me when I travel, and take advantage of the spare time I have when I'm on vacation or visiting family. It's great to have a guitar with you all the time. You never know when inspiration will come.

Comments about Washburn Rover Travel Guitar:
Tried others was gonna buy a Martin Backpacker untill I tried this one. Get questions and compliments everywhere I go. Full size fretboard, nicely finished with white binding everywhere. Great price. This little darling plays like a regular guitar and packs so small. Foam case is perfect for any kind of traveling. I find it just right for carying like a back pack, stoying in the overhead, straping onto a bike. Yes, it sounded a little like a banjo. I like banjos. This was corected when I installed an electric pickup and stuffed the 9v battery into it. A little quieter-less tinney but plugged it I can play with the rest of the band. Small body size takes a little practice. Always use the strap to help hold it in place. Yes! I'd recomend it and would buy another one in a heart beat.

Comments about Washburn Rover Travel Guitar:
This is a fun little guitar to play with. Although it sounds like a banjo. This can be mitigated, somewhat, by stringing it with D'Addario medium flat-tops.
Mine came with a slite up-bow in the neck but the provided wrench solved that. But I had to lop off almost 1/16th off the bridge to make it perfect.
Now it plays like butter.
I thought that with the lightness of this guitar that it wouldn't be 'roadable'. Wrongo, I take it with me everywhere

Comments about Washburn Rover Travel Guitar:
This little git is really quite a bargain and is very usable. Not at all a novelty! It does take some setting up and getting used to and breaking in, but after a while this thing sounds and feels pretty killer. I have been playing it more and more lately! It truly is an addictive little axe! Balance is really not a big deal for me. I use a strap at the headstock and the back button and when I am sitting I play on the left knee classical style. It is super fun with open tuning and a slide. Get a glass Dunlop or even better the Dunlop Mudslide sounds really nice with this little fiddle. Enjoy!!

Comments about Washburn Rover Travel Guitar:
I was disappointed with this guitar. I have had Martin backpacker and Ovation travel guitar. I had high hopes for this one but it feels like a toy and has poor sound quality. Feels like playing a ukelele with the sound of an unplugged electric. Carry case is nice and size is nice but I won't keep this one.

- Heavy Headstock

Comments about Washburn Rover Travel Guitar:
I purchased the Washburn Rover in order to take advantage of my layover time as a pilot. I needed a guitar that would slide into an outer pocket on my suitcase. The Rover will do just that with one caveat. The case it comes with will fit in an airline overhead, but won't slide into a pocket on a suitcase. The solution is to have your expert seamstress Mom make a soft case for you and give it to you as a birthday present, which is exactly what I did. It probably cost her more than the guitar cost me. I could not find a gig bag that would fit this guitar for sale. The sound is more than acceptable for practicing. In fact, sometimes I think it is a little too loud for playing aggressively in a hotel room. I have to use a strap to keep the headstock up as it is heavy. The shape works better than the Backpacker and it sounds better, too. Quality of construction is solid. 24" scale length is a definite plus. Most of the baby size dreadnoughts have a 22" scale length and are too big to fit where the Rover needs to fit. Great guitar for the niche that it fills.

Comments about Washburn Rover Travel Guitar:
Shallow projection and thin sound, but isn't that what you would expect. Fun to play, well made and perfect for quiet environments like hotel rooms. Only took a few minutes to feel comfortable with it. Better without the strap on.

Comments about Washburn Rover Travel Guitar:
Bought as a 'camping ' guitar, it has turned out to be one of my favorites. Washburn makes great stuff...the Rover is no exception. Action ok out of the box, fully bound, beautiful finish. Sound is somewhat mandolinlike, but absolutely is sweet. I use Daddario High Strung (Nashville tuning} strings and it sounds like a 12 string/ mando hybrid! Everybody wants to play it! Has held up amazing well! Did smell funky out of the box...take off the strap and hang it outside over a weekend...solved!
