Faith and Loyalty to washburn no more

Comments about Washburn WD 10S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This was my third Washburn. I have to say that I have been consistantly disappointed to this point. My first guitar was a WD10SCE. Having never played at the time I thought it was pretty good with decent sound then I tried a yamaha FG700S. It made the WD10SCE look like a garage sale find. So I got rid of the WD10SCE in favor of the Yamaha.

I travel a lot so I got the bought a washburn RO10 travel guitar. Less than two days later the bridge had separated from the body. There were finish issues as well. The white binding yellowed within only a couple days. Piece of junk. Returned it.

Figuring third time is a charm and based on all the other glowing washburn reviews, I bought this WD10S as a compliment to my FG700S so I could take one on the road when I travel. I assumed since this was a dreadnaught and of similar construction, they should be close. When it arrived it had finish issues. The soundhole was not properly finished and had rough wood fuzz around the hole where they didn't sand well. The bridge was still seemed rough finished. It looked like it had only been sanded with 100grit or less and looked significantly dried out and bleached. I shook no less than 4 wood chips out of the body. Showing they didn't even care enough to finish the job.

Worse was the sound. Dull, flat, mushy, and no volume. No depth to the lows, no brights to the highs in comparison to my other cheaper yammy. My FG700S that is significantly cheaper sounds 100 times better or more than this guitar. That coupled with the fact that it had the same chincy white binding as the RO10 that would be soon yellowing and looking like junk meant that this one was destined to be returned promptly.

My confidence is shaken in Washburn now that I have consistantly seen very basic quality issues that even cheaper manufacturers seem to have better control of. I will no longer pay for the name or buy the hype. I will no longer be buying any washburns after this latest disappointment.

If you are shopping for a dreadnaught considering this particular one, I strongly suggest going into a store and trying this one next to the cheaper Yamaha FG700S. I'm fairly confident that anybody that plays them side by side will be leaving with the FG700S.

Comments about Washburn WD 10S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar in the white finish. It was on sale for considerably less than the usual M.F. price. I usually like a Natural or Sunburst finish. I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of this all white guitar. I've been playing since 1965. I'm primarily an Electric player. All of the acoustics I've owned have been intermediate models. This guitar is easily the best value in any acoustic guitar I've ever owned.

The deep bass and bright top end provide excellent tone. The solid Spruce top will provide even better tone as it ages. It plays well and the fit and finish far exceed the expectations of a guitar in this price range. The attention payed to little details are a testament to the quality and value of this guitar. I've been playing for nearly 50 years. I've owned 500 guitars in my lifetime. Take it from me: YOU WON'T FIND A BETTER ACOUSTIC GUITAR AT THIS PRICE !!

            Good value for the money

            By Christopher Bayee

Comments about Washburn WD 10S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I previously owned a D10SCE (2003 or so) that I never ever should have sold. That was far higher quality than this Chinese-made version. Still, I needed an inexpensive guitar to play around my toddler, and this one sounded surprisingly good. Washburn and Breedlove are the two best values in acoustic guitars by a mile.
Basic guitar. No bells and whistles. Rates slightly above average because the setup was terrific.
Seems solidly built ... for the money. Sound is decent ... for the money. Very light weight, which is nice when I decide to lug it around somewhere.
Given that it was $175 and how easy it plays and decent it sounds, I have a hard time imagining there is a better deal on a low-end guitar out there.

            wd 10s Washburn

Comments about Washburn WD 10S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I did a lot of research before I bought this guitar. It's great--especially with the bone nut and
saddle. It took very little set-up. Action is good. Tone is good. I put a black pick guard on it
(looks great!), exchanged plastic bridge pins for tintul wooden pins, and changed strings (I'm
still experimenting to see which brand strings will sound best on it) I love the warm tone of
the Washburns. Thank you Musician's Friend!

            Great Guitar

            By Tejas Aralere

            from Undisclosed

Comments about Washburn WD 10S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I was debating between buying this and the Yamaha FG700s and after trying out the Yamaha and disliking it, I decided to order this one. I think I made the right choice. The Yamaha was lacking in the higher and bass ranges but the Washburn has them covered. Both of the instruments are made in China. A solid spruce top for the price it is a steal and definitely makes a difference in the clarity of the tone. Notes are more crisp and this thing resonates forever! The only thing that might bother some people is that the action is pretty low from the factory. I mean I'm getting fret buzz when I play some basic open chords, but that is an easily fixed problem by the Luthier. I didn't know much about Washburn, but now I think I'm hooked. This is the way to go. It is my first guitar (I'm a violinist) and I wanted it to play some country, fingerpicking style, and jazz music. It's great. The neck is pretty thin (for easy playing) and the satin finish let's my hand move fast up and down the neck. The body is a gloss finish and there is no pickguard, so those might be 2 things you think about when getting the instrument. Oh, and there aren't two shoulder strap pegs, only one on the bottom, so if you buy a strap, make sure it's one that you can tie to the head at one end (if not, that's easily remedied with a shoelace.) It also does not come with a case, so definitely pick one up for it. I called at least 30 music stores across America and asked different peoples' opinions on which one to buy out of the two I was considering and the majority said Washburn. They were right. Well done, Washburn.
I give this an 8 because the nut and saddle are made of bone instead of plastic which really affects the sound quality. Also the solid spruce top is an awesome feature for an entry level guitar.
            It's beautifully made. Period.

            Simply Amazing!!

            By Sam Armon

            from Illinois

Comments about Washburn WD 10S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I own the mini jumbo version of this product, and I could not be more pleased. This is my second guitar and it will probably be my last. Great tone, stays in tune well, very durable, and all for an excellent price?! My only small complaint is the action is a little high, but it isn't a major problem and it is easy to get fixed. I may only be an amateur but I recommend this guitar for any beginner looking for a great deal or for any professional looking for a great stage guitar. Thanks again Washburn!
