Comments about Washburn WD 20SCE Flamed Top Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I am a semi pro songwriter. I was looking for a guitar for recording and solo performance to add to my collection. After testing several guitars, this one stood out by out performing other acoustics that cost three times more. Not sure how Washburn does it, but this is one solid peformer. In the 40 plus years I have played guitar,I'm not sure I've played this good of a guitar near this price point.
Pros
- Good Woods Great Sound
Cons
- No Pickgard Plastic Nut
Best Uses
- Beginner to intermediate
Comments about Washburn WD 20SCE Flamed Top Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Its a good guitar for the money. It plays easy and sounds like a guitar twice the price. The woods work very well with the guitar. There are a few small things I would change altho, like there is no pickgard, the nuts are plastic, and the finish scratches very easy. All these things can be added to it except for the finish, and it isn't very expensive. All in all its a great guitar for the money and if I could I would rate it a four and a 1/2.
Pros
- Great looking guitar
- Unbelievable price
- Washburn Is Quality
Cons
- Need Neck Adjustment

Comments about Washburn WD 20SCE Flamed Top Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Unbelievable deal. If you are on a budget look for factory restocks. I got this beauty for almost half off. I did have neck adjusted locally at a guitar shop. The action is much better after adjustment. I have heard that this is not uncommon for Internet purchased guitars. Washburn is quality at a great price. Musicians friend has amazingly fast shipping for free. Two days from order to doorstep. Wow!!

I actually bought this from Musicians Friend, and was unable to get an answer from several salesmen to just what "Flamed Top" was describing on this acoustic guitar. So I ordered one, and here's what I got. The top was NOT "Flamed", but it was striking to see! Late wood (the darker color) stripes were very bold lines. Both early and late wood were wider than normal, and this created a lower quality look than I was expecting on a quality acoustic. High quality spruce tonewood has very fine lines very close together, showcasing the tight grain caused by slow growing Spruce. This is also where the good tone comes from.
Further, there was an obvious rise at the 14th fret, which caused buzzing. The action was just right for me but I tried to raise it to eliminate the rise, but the rise was still there. I sent it back and was prepared to forget this guitar, but the sales person convinced me to try again. I did, and this time I got a completely different look for the top. Tight, straight grain, except for some fiddle back figure I was not expecting! The frets were fine on this one, and everything else testified to a fine quality guitar. I don't understand why so much variance in the look of these 2 guitars, but I am well satisfied with this one. I have a solid top Taylor and an old Yamaha acoustic, and this guitar sounds comparable to them both. Amazing sound for so little money! If you buy one of these, remember that this solid top requires some moisture in the winter when the heat is on. If it dries out, it will split. (Cheaper laminate tops don't require this care). Get a case and a humidifier, and you'll be able to enjoy this guitar for a long time.
Comments about Washburn WD 20SCE Flamed Top Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
These guitars rival the Martin HPL series offering of affordable features. The Martins still edge out the Washburns in quality construction and playability in my opinion but these guitars are a very close second! Price wise they beat the pants off the more affordable Martins and this model offers the bone nut and saddle for better sustain and ringing note resonance.
This Washburn sports a bone nut and saddle, an under the saddle piezo pickup with the Fishman Isys Preamp System with built in tuner, Alaska Sika Spruce Top, Rosewood sides and back with Rosewood neck which all adds up to a quality guitar! To get all these features for this price you should expect either a piece of junk or an amazing value for your dollar! Since the price was reasonable and Musician's Friends return policy I took the chance and I am glad that I did. I bought 3 of these beauties and they are all awesome guitars! I was amazed that all three were nicely finished with low string action right out of the box. I will probably upgrade to Martin strings when the time come but for now my friends and I are digging our new guitars. 1 was for me and the other 2 were for my most excellnt friends so I am happy I could give them a gift that would make them smile for a long time to come!
The 3 guitars I purchased just needed to be tuned up after shipping and they are staying in tune. The fit and finish is amazing considering the price. The string action is nice and low and the necks are all straight as an arrow. The 3 guitars are almost identical except for the characteristics of the grain of the realwood Alaska Sika Spruce top. The Piezo under-saddle pickup and the Fishman Isys System is probably the best sounding system out there today. I have Fishman electronics and the under saddle Piezo in my 2 Martins and have goten many compliments on the clean acoustic sound of the guitars when I play out at Open-Mics.
This is a no brainer! I ususally like to buy a guitar after playing it in-store but I'm glad I took the chance because after playing mine for the past few weeks I could not have found another guitar at this price with all these features made out of all real wood! Buy one or three!
Comments about Washburn WD 20SCE Flamed Top Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I bought this used and it looked new to me. The action was a little high for my tase so I sanded down the saddle a little, It also had a chemical odor, I was told by Washburn it was probably the glue so I put it in front of a small fan for a day and it dissapated. This guitar is a joy to play you can't go wrong for the money
Solid Spruce top has good projection, Fishman ISYS electonic with tuner work great!. I like the cutaway for more upper fret access. Bound body, neck & headstock-looks nice
Based on the look, sound, intonation and feel it appears good to me
I did alot of research before buying this guitar. Alotl the reviews were positive for the quality you get for a guitar and I would agree!
