OVERVIEW

Excellent value with warm tone and strong volume.

The Washburn WD100DL is a steel string acoustic guitar that features a mahogany top and dreadnought size, making it ideal for both practice and performance.

Mahogany is dark-colored wood that, when used as a guitar soundboard, creates a warm, full tone with a character all its own. The WD100DL also features mahogany back and sides that further help to balance out the powerful low- and high-end inherent to the dreadnought body shape. The result is a sound that's both pleasing and loud enough to be heard in small venue without amplification.

The Washburn WD100DL has a full-length 25-1/2" mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard. Other appointments include a rosewood bridge, vintage style headstock, die-cast tuners, and a gig bag.

*Note: Restock version does not have Washburn flower logo on headstock.

Overall, this is a nice guitar. It will need setup upon arrival; if you are a beginner player or not experienced enough, PLEASE take this to a local guitar shop to get set up. The neck on mine had WAY too much tension, so I loosened it up. The guitar also arrived slightly over-humidified, but that's better than it being overly dry and cracked.

Besides the required work needed to be done on it, I also did some optional work; just my personal preferences. I personally think this guitar looks great, but the gloss finish ruins everything. So I bought a can of Rustoleum Clear Matte Finish spray paint, removed the strings, pickguard (the pickguard was also misplaced on the guitar compared to the preview picture on the website), and hardware, and sprayed away...now it looks amazing! (In this review are the before and after pics - before pic is straight out of the box.) I also installed a strap button and restrung it with Martin medium-weight Phosphor Bronze strings; two more things beginners should take to a guitar shop to get done if they wish to do so.

Comparing this guitar to my old Yamaha F325, my only complaint is that playing/shifting positions is not as smooth; especially with the gloss finish. Then again, however, I've had my Yamaha for about 4 years, and my Washburn for a few days now. I look forward to seeing how my relationship with my Washburn guitar evolves!

the first one looked great but sounded awful

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

Just started a new job 3100 miles from home and wanted something to practice with until I move my nicer guitars out here. I bought an open-box one for 33% off the sale price, listing said "blemished" but it arrived in perfect shape, still has the plastic on the pick guard and not a single scratch I can find. The black color is beautiful, love the white trim as well. I highly recommend as an inexpensive guitar, and would purchase again!

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

The guitar feels and sounds great right out of the box. I already had a case for it so I'm good to go. The only thing is, I ordered one color and got another. I think I might just keep it, cause I'm impressed with the projection of sound that comes out of that guitar and the action is very comfortable right out of the box, the action was low and I like it low, that's my story and I'm stick'n wit it!

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is a great buy because it delivers a "loud" volume and sustain if you require volume contrast to be a part of your performance. The Healing Box Project has given several of these guitars to disabled Veterans because they deserve a professional instrument to enjoy, the easy fingering action, sustain, full sound and beauty of this model all add up to be a guitar that compares with higher-priced instruments...right out of the box. Like all guitars, new strings need to be stretched to insure the guitar stays in tune. Only once (out of 20 times) have I had to adjust the truss rod. Superb guitar.

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I needed a guitar to replace the old Palmer that I've had for over 30 years. Saw this one on MF for a real sweet price and thought I'd give it a shot. Action was a little high so when I changed the strings I lowered the bridge a little. It plays and sounds very nice. I'm sure with time the sound will mellow even more. I love the nice wine color of the mahogany.

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

Really good guitar, easy to tune (and barely gets out of tune), nice color (i got the red version).. It sound really good for a one fifty guitar. I could not put it down. I chose this over epiphone because they don't stay in tune and the truss rod usually needs adjusting (according to my friend,)

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

The Healing Box Project has gifted several of these guitars to Veterans. The instrument looks great and the gold features on black look beautiful. Full mahogany is stunning, too. The strings are close to the neck, good setup right out of the box and only once have I made a truss rod adjustment to make the neck perfectly straight. After stretching the strings the guitar stays in tune even with hard play. Bass and treble response make for a full tone that projects and sustains. Chicago Company, sadly guitar made in China.

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

Beautiful all natural Mahogany wood grain. It sounds like a solid top guitar. String heights at 1st fret (0.5 mm) came perfectly adjusted with no string buzz at the other end of the fret-board. Beautiful gold colored hardware. You need to get a brown leather strap that attaches to the head-stock. The gig bag that comes with is light and very easy to carry. You may like this guitar so much to buy a Musician's Gear hard case.

Comments about Washburn WD100DL Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I was looking for a new guitar that wouldn't break the bank. I found this Washburn on MF for sale then I noticed they had one "used" for even less. I did a little research a couldn't find any bad reviews so I grabbed it. When it arrived it was in the factory box and still had the plastic on the pick guard. The finish is gorgeous and with the gold tuning pegs it looks like a much more expensive guitar. I changed the strings and sanded down the bridge to lower the action. Let me tell you, this guitar sounds and feels awesome. I am very happy with this guitar and of course the great service from Musicians Friend. If this is what Washburn makes for its less expensive guitar I can't imagine what the higher priced models are like.
