Comments about Washburn WD15SCE Solid Sitka Spruce Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Dreadnought Mahogany Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

I found this guitar new but very slightly blemished online for about half off! I had not wanted to spend a lot, and I didn't know much at all about guitars. I've played an old Yamaha FG335 for years (and it REALLY needs new strings), and loved its tone. This Washburn is, to my amateur ears, louder and a bit brighter, with what is to me a very well-balanced tone. Since I have very little experience with other guitars, I asked my brother-in-law, who I believe owns about 10 guitars and knows a lot about them (and has played in bands and led church worship for years) to take it for a test strum. He was very impressed! He really liked the tone, and said that Fishman amps are very good, though we didn't hook it up to my amp. The strings are close to the neck so it is easy to play, and so far it has held tune very well since I bought it (a few months ago). It is a lovely piece, too; I like the attention to detail. I am very happy with my decision to buy, especially considering I got a STEAL at about half price! I would consider it, even at normal price.

Comments about Washburn WD15SCE Solid Sitka Spruce Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Dreadnought Mahogany Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

In the high end acoustic guitar market two names are known to almost everyone. Martin and Taylor. Both make quality instruments and for some the price doesn't matter. For the rest of us improvements in manufacturing and quality control have made great strides over the years and a lower priced acoustic can be purchased that provides the player a great sounding guitar.
On the lower end of the acoustic market two companies have proven themselves in the crowded marketplace. One is Yamaha and the other Washburn.
The Yamaha FG series has earned top reviews since the 70's and is probably the most popular series of acoustic guitars in the world in the past few decades. Washburn has been around since the late 1800's and built their reputation on acoustic instruments. Today their dreadnought acoustic guitars are best sellers. Like Yamaha they produce quality instruments that provide maximum value. Both companies have earned praised from players around the world.
The Washburn WD15SCE takes the formula that has made the D10 model the worlds current best seller and added features that pack alot in to a guitar at this price point. Unlike the big boys and their large marketing department budgets Washburn acoustic sales continue strong based mostly on player reviews. A testament to their quality and value.
Abalone and mother-of-pearl appointemts along with a bone nut and saddle are typically all things reserved for guitars higher priced. MF needs to get get a guitar gallery like another retailer has on their site. The pictures here give no indication of the attention to detail and beauty of this guitar. Even Washburn could do a better job as their own site lacks in the visual department. I agree with another reviewer here that like Strats have custom shop models the Washburn WD15CSE builds on the WD10 with attention to finer details. The guitar is minus pickguard and a top strap button. No big deal on either point. Most electrics don't have pickguards and sticking a piece of plastic on the acoustic's soundboard never made sense from a sound perspective. Planet Waves quick release guitar strap system is top rated and a good choice to address the top button issue.
I find the sound well balanced and defined from high to low. Most players don't pay enough attention to the low strings on acoustics instead making comments such as it sounds nice and
bright. The Washburn does equally well in both the high and low end. It's fun to let those bottom strings drone as one plays through chord progressions. The satin finish neck is perfect and the fretboard edges dont have the typical plastic binding strip found on many guitars. It makes for a very comfortable fretboard.
The Fishman preamp/tuner works well and is dead simple to operate. Through an amp or board it sounds very natural. The tuner is easy to use and see in bright light.
The Wasburn WD15SCE is a great choice for the player that wants a great sounding quality instrument with premium details at an incredible price. Well done Washburn.

I primarily play electric on a regular basis. I gave my Takamine acoustic to my son and needed an inexpensive replacement I could used for occasional acoustic gigs. I basically rolled the dice after reading some of the Washburn acoustic reviews. Overall, I am pleased with the guitar in terms of the tone and finish. The built-in tuner is a nice option and the electronics, though very basic, function well. The action in the upper frets was set very high from the factory and I had to spend some time shaving down the bridge, but after that and a slight truss-rod adjustment, this guitar sounds and plays very well. If you are not comfortable doing these type of adjustments yourself, I would say you can expect to spend a little money at a luthier for a good setup and you will have a nice instrument to play.

                      Comparative Analysis

Comments about Washburn WD15SCE Solid Sitka Spruce Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Dreadnought Mahogany Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

I bought this guitar several weeks ago. For the price I was expecting a guitar that would require some luthier work on the action. There was no setup necessary out of the box. The action was low and free of any fret buzzes.Comparatively, I bought a Seagull mini-jumbo 6 months ago, and I had to pay a luthier $120.00 to level polish and recrown the frets to get rid of annoying buzzing on the 5th string.Washburn has apparently streamlined the mass production process and hasn't cut any corners where it counts. The neck angle on this guitar was perfection itself. In addition, the scalloped bracing gives the guitar a loud voice that sings on the treble end like a Taylor. The guitar is a joy to play, and one can see the pride in the craftsmanship of the guitar as you look it over.If you're looking for a guitar that won't kill your budget but won't let you down either, this is it. The electronics package is modest with simple piezo pickups under the saddle. One bass and one treble adjustment with a sweet tuner that follows the EADGBE pattern rather than the 123456 pattern (which allows alternate tunings). My sweet tuner gets me in close, but not precise. It's still a pleasure to have on the guitar at all times. Overall, this guitar would be excellent for a person who wants to expand into public entertaining. After all, all acoustic guitars from the golden era had piezo pickups so this is far from a detriment. It helps you achieve that original sound, and all from a guitar made from solid quality tone woods and excellent quality in construction.

                      Comparative Analysis

Comments about Washburn WD15SCE Solid Sitka Spruce Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Dreadnought Mahogany Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

Being an experienced guitarist who has played many acoustic guitars, this was my first Washburn. I was amazed at what awaited me when I opened the box and more amazed as I began to play this guitar. I was expecting a guitar that would require some work because of the price and the fact that it was neither a Taylor or a Martin (even they often need work).

Some months ago, I bought a Segaull Maritime Mini Jumbo. The guitar had some issues from the manufacturer. There was fret buzz and the nut and saddle were both extremely high. The tuning machines also had not been snugged down. Therefore, I had to spend for a fret level, crown and polish, as well as, a setup for the Seagull. The Washburn's action (out of the box) was identical to the Seagull's after the luthier made the adjustments. In other words, the action of the Washburn was perfect out of the box. I've never encountered this before on a production instrument

The Washburn was actually superior in fit and finsh to the Seagull, as well. The Spruce top has more silking than the Seagull's, and there were no issues with the tuning pegs being loose. Even the jack for the amp chord was securely snugged down. The attention to detail was apparent as I looked over the instrument. The neck set angle was perfectly done and the action is as sweet as one could hope for. The tonal qualities are excellent and it does not have the dreadnaught boom which drowns out mids.

Overall the guitar appears to be a custom shop model of the WD10SCE. The quality of woods selected are excellent. It appears that the neck and body were made at two separate locations as the finish does not match, but whoever fit the neck to the body knew what they were doing. The guitar even has a few perks not mentioned. The string buttons have abalone dots to match the purfling and rosette and the tuner follows the EADGBE configuration instead of the 1,2,3,4,5,6 configuration of some budget guitars. This allows you to use it for alternate tunings. Washburn even throws in the 9 volt battery for the preamp and tuner.

So what's the downside? Well, there isn't much. The electronics package is exactly what you would expect on a guitar in this range. There's no condensor mic or elaborate EQ built in. Just a straight up Piezo pickup with preamp (which functions very well for gigs). The spray on finish is the fast drying kind, but Washburn was smart about this and didn't apply too many coats to stiffle the sound board. In fact, the guitar is pretty loud even with this finish. The tuning pegs were not precisely aligned, and this becomes immediately apparent when looking at the back of the headstock, but it's not apparent from the front. Lastly, there is no strap button at the neck (curious on a performer model).

Overall, I got a better guitar from Washburn than I did from Seagull, and this with pickups already installed. This is a guitar you could proudly take on stage and entertain with, and it has the sound quality necessary to do so either acoustically or amplified. In fact, I will claim this to be the best buy I've made on an acoustic over all my years of playing. I don't see how Washburn could produce such a high-quality instrument for such a low price. Perhaps I got lucky, or perhaps it's Washburn's philosophy as of late.
