Comments about Washburn WD40SCE Solid Sitka Spruce Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Dreadnought Flame Maple Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:
I am ashamed I never looked closely at Washburn. They are American, there craftsman are that of the classic American guitar builders. Be sure to check out there sight, they have some beauties on board.
What a great deal for such a big sounding dreadnought. What attracted me first was the Sitka Spruce top. If you hunt throught the other acoustic builders, you will see the Sitka Spruce material is reserved for the top shelf models. The sound is rich and projects like no other. The Washburn WD40SCE looks as rich as its sounds. I was a bit concerned when it came in a double boxed cardboard shipping container. It was still cold from the ride from Chicago to Texas, yet the finish was flawless. It was tuned down, I'm sure, for the trip. I tuned it up with its on board Fishman electronics. My favoite tone test is a Gmaj7, full sweep strum. The tone was deep, full bodied with the G-B-E strings having no problem being heard in the chord. No complaints on the way it sounds and feels. For this price, you will be blowen away, I was.
I not only want my guitars to sound good, they have to be well made and attractive. This Washburn has it all at a very fair price. The flame maple sides and back are a deep flame pattern. The flame maple pattern is carried over to the matching head stock. The mother of pearl inlayed Wasburn and crown pattern adds another touch of class. The gold tuning keys are not the top shelf brand but I had to look close to notice that. I had no tuning problems. The neck setup was good out of the box. I did tighten the truss rod 1/8th turn, my preference. The glue joints are solid, the binding is precise. The overall craftsmanship is excellent, classic American, the look is that of a beautiful top shelf dreadnought. The Fishman electronics is an excellent choice. Sounds great directly into the board with a bit of tone tweeking. .
You will not find a better deal in a Sitka Spruce top dreadnought.
