Comments about Washburn WG26SCE Solid Cedar Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Grand Auditorium Rosewood Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

I've had this guitar for about a year now and have been totally enamored with it the entire time. You get a lot of premium appointments on a relatively inexpensive guitar. Namely, finding an acoustic/electric at this price range is practically unheard of. Now, the electronics won't blow you away, but they're capable. I work in a recording studio as a sound engineer, so I mess with quite a few instruments regularly. This one stands out visually and in playability. Sound is full of depth - don't let anyone make you think cedar tops can't be suitable for strumming. Individual notes are more textured than pure. The tuning machines can be a pain, but not so much as to deter anyone from buying it (especially since they're replaceable.) This is guitar is MUCH easier on the eyes in-person. So long as you don't make this purchase expecting a sound quality costing thousands more, you likely won't be disappointed. I've read some poor reports regarding quality control from the factory, mostly aesthetic, but mine (even being used) arrived in immaculate condition all the way around.

This guitar surprised me when I got it. The pictures just don't do it justice. This is probably the nicest acoustic I have ever owned. The action is pretty high, but some people play with high action. Just buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Comments about Washburn WG26SCE Solid Cedar Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Grand Auditorium Rosewood Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

I bought this guitar as a weekend, vacation, travel guitar. I absolutely love it. I find that I play it more than my high end guitars (crazy i know). The guitar is gorgeous first off. The sound is really great. Nice deep lows and clear highs (typical rosewood). I love that the cedar top has a gloss finish since cedar is so soft. Nice protection. Electronics are great too. Overall, I'm very impressed. Sounds like a much more expensive guitar. Only downside is the tuning pegs aren't great. But those are cheap to replace with some Grovers or similar.

Great guitar, but action is a problem

Comments about Washburn WG26SCE Solid Cedar Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Grand Auditorium Rosewood Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

      Pro:
Guitar is beautiful. Craftsmanship is near-flawless. Abalone trim and wood binding are perfect. Satin neck is a joy to play.

Rosewood body paired with cedar top is warm, but rich with harmonics and overtones. Sparkly, but not dry.

Acoustically sounds great, but it really shines plugged in.

      Con:
The action is very high at the twelfth fret. Nearly 1/16th (4/64) of an inch too high.

Asked my luthier's opinion (since he'd be lowering it), and he said the bigger problem is that there isn't enough saddle height. We could lower the action now, but that's it, just the one time. With the gradual, inevitable rising of the action over time due to string tension, in a few years I'd be looking at a neck reset, which would cost about as much as the guitar.

(BTW, other than action, the luthier's first comment was "WOW, that's a lot of guitar")

No, it's not a Martin, but I do take good care of my guitars, and expect to have this for 20 years. Call me picky, I guess.

Now for the cool part. I called MF and explained my dilemma. I figure it's quite likely that there are many of these guitars with both acceptable action, AND enough bridge and saddle height to adjust a few times over the years. Given MF's great return policy, I could just keep trying, and returning, until I find a good one. But that's inconvenient for me, and nasty for MF, as it can't then be sold new.

So, at my request, they handpicked one from stock, based on specific action and saddle guidelines from my luthier. I haven't received it yet, so we'll see if they paid attention or not.

If that doesn't work, then I'll have to rethink it. I really like the guitar. I could lower the action now and it would play like a dream. And then I could throw it out in five years. Still worth it? Hmmm.

I suspect this type of setup problem isn't just Washburn. High marks to MF for their handling of the situation.

Great sound but action needs adjusting

      By jobaduba

      from New York, NY

Comments about Washburn WG26SCE Solid Cedar Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Grand Auditorium Rosewood Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

Guitar is beautiful with a huge loud sound. Craftmanship on this guitar flawless. Neck is fast and feels great but the action at the nut in open position is quite high. It is difficult to play in open position. I will have to spend money to get the nut/string issue resolved.

      Review

      By sixstringsforGOD

      from West Virginia

Comments about Washburn WG26SCE Solid Cedar Top Acoustic Cutaway Electric Grand Auditorium Rosewood Guitar with Fishman Preamp And Tuner:

This is a great sounding acoustic guitar. It has a better unplugged tone that most A/E. This one beat out Crafter, Yamaha, Fender, Epiphone, and most others at this price point. I originally wanted a Taylor 114ce or similar, but could not justify giving upward near a grand for plywood. On the down side the frets could have been used to grate cheese and there were small hair line cracks in the clear coat where the cleared body meets the satin neck(1/4 in or less). The Taylor will win in finish, and playability, but for the price this guitar will hold its own as long as you get those fret ends filed! This guitar is much more beautiful in person than the pics. God Bless!
