A new breed of guitar.
The Wechter Pathmaker 3120T Guitar's innovative features include a spruce top, and beautiful ovankol back and sides, and a patented double cutaway headblock design that allows access to 19 frets clear of the body with the most stable neck joint found on any acoustic guitar today. The Pathmaker's unique convex headblock construction with integrated soundhole bracing is stronger than any traditional headblock design, easier to build, more reliable, and visually striking.
Wechter's 3000 Series Pathmakers received both the Guitar Player Editors' Pick Award and the Guitar One award! The 3000 Series Pathmakers are handmade; the braces are hand-scalloped with a violinmaker's plane. The finish is extremely thin, so the acoustic tone is loud and clear. The necks are slim and the access to the frets all the way into the high registers makes this a real user-friendly guitar. This is the guitar to have if you have ever wanted an acoustic that plays like an electric (i.e. low action and ease of playability) without compromising the acoustic tone. The 3000 Series Pathmaker comes with a heavy-duty padded gig bag at no extra charge.
The final installation with Plek Pro and electronics on all 3000 Series Pathmakers occurs at the Wechter shop in Michigan. They open every box, install the electronics, install brand new premium coated strings, adjust the action, adjust the trussrod, bone nut and saddle, file frets and buff the finish if necessary, clean the fingerboard and bridge, polish and carefully repack - every guitar, every time, so that you are getting a guitar that will play great right out of the box. Wechter guitars come with a lifetime warranty.
Abe Wechter personally travels to Asia several times a year to inspect guitars and works closely with the manufacturers there to assure that Wechter guitars are built with only the best materials and in a properly controlled environment. Abe gave his personal violinmaker's plane to the factory owner and had them copy the design so that now all the workers can hand scallop braces on Pathmaker guitars according to Abe's instructions.
The 3120T Pathfinder guitar features their Schertler Basik amplification system which is also used in resonator guitars. This system uses a Schertler Basik pickup under the cast aluminum spider, as used on the Schertler/Scheerhorn system developed in conjunction with master resonator builder Tim Scheerhorn, and a special active onboard preamp built exclusively for Wechter Guitars. The preamp mounts on the inside of the 3120T guitar at the output jack, and uses a 9 volt battery which is mounted in a battery compartment next to the tailblock. No external power supply or preamp required, just plug in a standard 1/4" cord.
Gain and tone controls are discreetly located at the edge of the soundholes. The tone controls are active boost and cut for both bass and treble. There are no holes in the side of the guitar for controls, only a hole in the tailblock for the standard output jack and a rectangular cutout for the battery box next to the tailblock.

The Wechter Pathmaker 3120T is a unique thin line acoustic guitar. At first glance, the shape of this model is different than any other acoustic guitar made. The neck joint area catches the eye with it's double cut away design and additional neck clearance (19 frets). But the features of this guitar are not just skin deep. When I wrapped my hand around the neck of this instrument, it all began to come together in my mind, this is an extremely feature rich and functional acoustic guitar. This guitar has real thought and intent behind the design. It has a purpose, a guitar that actually bridges a playing gap between electric and acoustic guitars. The feel of the thin, fast neck design is so consistent from the nut to the neck joint at the body it just beckons you to play. The 19 fret clearance allows comfortable upper register playing, not curling your hand around a thick neck heel and 4" plus body depth to reach the upper frets, but it doesn't stop here. There are 22 frets total that you can actually play! I suppose you could call it a hybrid, a crossover or whatever excites you when you play one, but one fact is true, there is not another acoustic electric guitar like it. This brings me to the best part of this guitar. First, your not buying a guitar with some other companies copied age old design, you are getting a new and innovative design. The fact that this guitar is specially designed and built would make you think it may be a little expensive, which was my first impression when I saw it. $1800.00 to $2000.00 I thought would be a fair beginning asking price for a guitar like this. The price of the Pathmaker 3120T starts at $499.99 MSRP with two pickup options. I have a room full of guitars in my home that I have collected since 1964 and none of them were purchased before I played them. The Wechter Pathmaker 3120T was the first guitar I ever purchased without playing it first and has seated itself as one of my favorites among the 11 acoustic and electric guitars I own. This guitar comes ready to play out of the box and is setup at Wechter Guitars Paw Paw Michigan facility on a computerized digital machine called a Plek Pro. If you're looking for an acoustic that plays like and has the upper reach of an electric with 22 frets this guitar is the best value on the market. Support for Wechter Guitars is but an e-mail or a phone call away with prompt and courteous response and service........................enjoy!!!
Out of the box the best guitar Ive owned. Wonderful finish, tremendous neck feel and great electronics.I still have discovered all the options the three pickups offer. I would urge anyone seeking an affordable acoustic electric to seriously consider a Wechter 3120 or any Wechter guitar.
This guitar was shipped with the Schertler Bluestick amp system, not the Basik, which (according to Abe W. himself) is used only in the Wechter resonator guitars. Even with the thin body, it has a pretty nice acoustic sound. Bottom is better than I expected, thanks to the ovangkol back/sides. Mids are good, highs are clear but not a lot of "sparkle." Then I plugged it into my Marshall AS100D acoustic combo. I had read mixed reviews about the Bluestick system, but the sound just blew me away. And I love that the Bluestick does not require cutting any holes in the sides of the guitar (the 9V battery is mounted inside, in front of the sound hole, tone controls at the edge of the sound hole). The neck feels good, more like a Les Paul than a Strat, but needs some breaking-in time. There were a few very minor imperfections in the top and neck woods, underneath the finish, but overall a very good instrument.
This guitar plays beautifully. Takes about a day to break it in, but after that its fantastic. Its a beauty to behold and the action is low similiar to an electric. Although it has a small body it still has a great acoustic tone.
