Using a sound modeling technique that utilizes data obtained through extensive analysis of four acoustic elements that are missing from conventional pickup systems— string and body resonance, ambience, vintage microphone characteristics, and professional micing techniques, SRT delivers a natural, studio-quality acoustic guitar tone. The same tone that, until now, was only attainable by professional recording engineers in the world's finest studios is now easily usable by any player, on-stage or in the studio. A sound that guitarists have long dreamed of is now a reality.

SRT Functions
The new SRT system lets you choose from three different high-end mic types as well as two mic positions that let you use techniques similar to those used in a recording studio. The system provides a total of six setting patterns. Click the buttons below the photos to hear the differences between various sound settings. The system also allows mixing of pickup and mic sound elements using the BLEND knob, and control of body resonance with the RESONANCE knob to create a wide range of rich, natural sounds. Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

I cannot add more than what other reviewers have stated. Just want to say that I'm extremely please with my Yamaha AC3M. Change the stock strings to elixir 80/20 bronze .11 to .52 and the guitar came to life. I also change the plastic saddle to Tusq. The stock strings are not bad, but the change of strings made a HUGE difference. Acoustic sound now is at par with my friends Taylor 314ce. This axe has the best plugged sound ever! The SRT system is definitively a winner. All solid woods, wood bindings and ebony fretboard at this price point are imposible to find. The guitar is flawless. Some measures: nut is 43mm, E to E at nut is 37mm (outside to outside), at the saddle is 55.5mm, fretboard at the 12th fret is 52mm. If this guitar is stolen or damaged, I would not hesistate to buy again. Very warm to bright sound.

Best Kept Secret in A/E Guitars!

Pros

    Cons

      Best Uses

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

First off, let me say that Musicians Friend had this guitar on my doorstep within three days

My last guitar lesson was in the fall of '68, so I've been playing a long time. I've owned from Gibson, Seagull, Takamine, Epiphone and more than I care to remember.
        Now the secret is out!

Upon reciept and unpackaging of the Yamaha AC3M, I literally went over the intire instrument with a magnifying glass looking for some kind of imperfection. My guitar is absolutly flawless! The solid wood binding and inlay of the rosette is unquestionably perfect. The neck joint is tight and rock solid. The finish is level, no swirls or runs. The ebony fretboard is smooth as glass. Believe me, any pictures you find online do not do this instrument justice.

Now for the sound: The sound is something I am not used to, as I typically have owned dreadnaughts. The best desctiprion I can give is, it has more of a "refined" sound. Even though the bridge and nut are plastic, it wears factory strings; I was shocked by the amount of sustain. I When strumed it has a sweet, soft and nicely balanced tone. I fully expect the guitar to have better acoustic sound, once the wood open up. Plugged in: this is where this axe really shines! The SRT System has more tonal options than any of the Takamines I have owned.

This guitar comes with one of the best cases I have seen. It is an arch top, five, latches, one locking, padded handle. Compared: makes my Gibson case like a hunk of junk!

In a nut shell: For the listed price you absolutly WILL NOT find a more prescision constructed, solid wood guitar. If you want one of the top US made instruments, I would bet you would have to pay 3 times for a comparable guitar. If the name on the headstock you can have 2 or 3 of the A series Yamaha, and not be afraid to gig with it.

        What a great instrument!

        By Dr. N

        from Vancouver, BC

        Ask me a question

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

I have been playing guitars for a long time and went to a large music store (again) with sufficient cash to purchase an above average all-solid electric acoustic guitar (another guitar - I have bad G.A.S.). After extensive research on the internet and some previous hands-on tests at other stores, I had narrowed my search to concert/grand auditorium size guitars from Taylor, Yamaha and Martin.
These manufacturers produce great guitars for fingerstyle players, with good quality control and sound projection.
Unfortunately, guitars from Taylor and Martin cost 3 times more than similar ones from Yamaha manufactured in Asia. Taylor and Martin make great guitars but their instruments are overpriced. The consumer is paying for salaries, benefits, overhead costs in the US, which are significantly higher than in other parts of the world. QA/QC is still the same, as companies such as Yamaha and Ibanez are well known for their quality control and wonderful instruments. Actually, a friend of mine went to a store a few months ago to purchase a 3K Gibson Les Paul but turned it down after we noticed a big finishing flaw at the cutaway (something you would expect from a very cheap guitar). Just because it is US made it does not mean that you are getting the same quality control offered to the stars that endorse the products and make you think that you are getting the same thing.
However, I had already decided to purchase the guitar based on sound, playability and materials, not price. And I tested numerous guitars, unplugged and plugged, one after the other, comparing the sound projection, action, neck profile, mid range, highs and lows, sustain, and so on.
The AC3M had the original strings from Yamaha (FS50BT) and I chose the mahogany back and sides to give me a better projection for the mids and a more balanced sound throughout all registers. The open pore neck feels like an old guitar, or an old friend. The guitar comes with a relatively low action and it is a pleasure to play. The sound projected very well with the original strings and I was thinking how much better it could get with a brand new set of the right strings for this instrument. To my ears and playing style, the Yamaha sounded slightly better and had better sustain when compared to the Taylors and Martins. However, this is a personal preference and the other guitars also sounded very good.
Each manufacturer has its own characteristics, dynamics and feel. I am a big fan of all three of them but could not justify paying 3 times more for a similar instrument simply because it was made in the US. I purchased the AC3M. Great playability, great sound, quality and what a beautiful instrument. The big surprise happened when I changed the strings. I installed a new set of Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 Bronze, gauge 12-53, and the guitar came to life, with a huge projection, sustain and dynamics. WOW. I couldn't be happier. The guitar also came with a case, manual, wrench and two batteries.
My advice is that you take your time and give Yamaha a try. The A3-series is a serious all-solid instrument for the serious player. A friend who plays with his band in local venues also bought an AC3M and is extremely satisfied with this guitar. Famous guitarists like Joe Bonamassa, Lee Ritenour and others play Yamaha high end guitars. There are videos of Don Alder and Lee also playing the A3-series on stage.
Try one and you won't regret it. As previously mentioned, sound is a personal preference but one can not deny the fact that Yamaha is rocking the world with high quality instruments at affordable prices. Kudos to them and lucky us!
