I own a A3M and a AC3R ...I find for my recordings, i like the Mohagany one for Strumming Chords and the Rosewood for single line solos. Both do both well, its just i like the way this system sounds on my recordings. I bought these without trying them in a store and bonded instantly to them both. They remind me of Taylor's. I like the Rosewood one the best. Don't hesitiate, these guitars hang with the taylor 5-6 series imo, for less then i/2 the price

It's not the guitar I was hoping it would be. All was good until I plugged it in. The volume between bass and treble strings was way off. As I played the guitar, I found I had to hit the bass strings much lighter than the treble strings because the volume on the E-6 and A strings was overbearing. I couldn't adjust out the descrepancies between the strings. I even played the guitar through 3 different amps. I also tried a lighter gauge string. Nothing worked so I eventually gave up and sent the guitar back.

Getting back into playing after having put the guitar down for a while. This acoustic electric is really great. Stays in tune sounds great. The action is really good and doesn't require any lowering and the finish is better than I expected

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

I received my Yamaha A3R just today and have been playing it for a few hours and I'm telling you this is a really nice guitar. It has really good volume to it and good projection too. It sounds very clear with good separation of each string and it has a nice brightness to it. I then decided it was time to plug it in to my fishman loudbox . I was pretty surprised how natural it sounded and how well it matched the sound of the guitar acoustically. I have heard a few different pick ups and this is really up there on my list. I actually have k@k pure mini pick ups in all my other guitars and I love the sound of these pick ups. If you haven't heard about these pick ups do your self a favor and check these out. I think the system that Yamaha is putting in the solid wood A series is pretty darn close to the k@k pick ups. The fact that this guitar sells for what it does is really pretty amazing. I"ll tell you right now you wont find a Taylor that compares to this guitar in this price range. The only guitar that compares to this guitar in this price range is the Martin custom d classic. IMO.They both have a different sound but for the money I don't think you can do much better. If you are looking for a guitar in this price range you really should check out the solid wood A series. I own a taylor and a martin that are both really nice guitars. I have to say they might start feeling a little neglected for a while.

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

Great playability, nimble even, and tone. It's rare that you can find both in a guitar. Top notch electronics, easy on the eyes. Very much a musical "instrument", very precise. I think the neck contour is pretty much perfect for my hands and the neck is somewhere between satin and gloss which I like very much. Nice, fast fretboard and a sweet open tone, not too bright, not too dark. Finger picks well too. Kind of sad that it is made in China but if it were made in the US the price would be double. This is all the guitar that most of us would ever need. Good job Yamaha and Musicians Friend.

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

After a prolonged absence I decided to get back into guitar playing again and as additional motivation, bought a new guitar. I had played and owned a Takamine, Washburn, a Guild, and a Yamaha and currently own an Ovation. I played all the above at local shops and they weren't really working for me. Tried a Martin D28...which was always a dream guitar but it was way outside my budget and didn't really sound all that nice. I tried the Taylor 100, 200, and 300 series and really liked them. I had read about the A series and was fortunate enough to find an A3R model used at a shop. I played it and the Taylor 210 CE side by side and really liked the A3R. To me the A3R brings many subtleties to the game. The Taylor was brighter but the A3R has a really nice subtle brightness of its own. The Martin was 'boomier' and had deeper base but the A3R has a nice punchy bass and is plenty loud. The resonance is great. There are times I'll just strum single chords and listen to the resonance and sustain.
The action on the Yamaha was as good as any other I tried. I really like the 'open pore' on the back of the neck. (You need to feel it. It's one of those things you'll like or hate.) I was leaning towards a black guitar and the transparent black pretty much sealed the deal.
All things said, I really like this guitar. It checked all my boxes and, since I got it used, really came in at a great price.
Tuners: with new strings, I was re-tuning every couple of days but now that they've stretched I might retune once a week after about 7-10 hours of practicing...and I'm in a real 'bending' mode right now so I stretch them a lot.
There was a great deal made about the electronics. Personally, I'm more of a straight acoustic player but wanted an AE in case I needed to plug in. I have played it plugged in several times and love the sound and really love the on-board tuner. There are others who can attest to the electronics better than I but I can attest to the acoustic side and I love it

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

The guitar is amazing quality, fit and finish, and plays beautifully. Setup is very low action, so I did have my pro luthier friend add a little relief to the neck (using the supplied allen wrench) to raise the action just a hair, but otherwise it is perfect. Case is VERY nice quality. Guitar was in tune right out of the box, despite the freezing cold temps during shipping The new SRT electronics provide a very wide array of great, rich sounds. Best solid wood guitar deal I've seen in a long time. FYI, I own a Martin HD28, D35, an older Yamaha FG335, Ovation, a Fender Strat, and a few others (my PRS is sold) This guitar is awesome. You will NOT be disappointed.

It's been years since I've played .... I blew the dust off my old guitar and decided I needed a new one. This new one feels like an old friend.... the neck is very comfortable and the action is awesome. I just want to keep playing and playing. The tone is rich, bright, and pleasant to the ears.... I plug it into a Fishman Loudbox and it sounds awesome plugged in or not. I've had the guitar two weeks and I love it. I think it's well worth the money !

I play in a praise band at church so my demands aren't that great. But owning a Yamaha FG700 while others had intermediate or high end acoustic/electrics, I felt the need to upgrade. After talking to a few guru's in our group, the A3R was recommended over the A1R as it is comparable to some higher end models and the extra cost was well worth the superior electronics. The sound is a bit beefier as an acoustic, but hooked up, the sound is AWESOME! This was a level 1 open box, but I couldn't tell the difference between this and a new model. Having a touch of arthritis, I prefer the low action and slimmer necks that Yamaha's offer. I am really pleased with this purchase.

My expectation were high because of the Yamaha review, Owner for almost a year now and have used it for many gigs. The rosewood body is beautiful and I love playing this guitar. the tuner is lousy and I don't care for the pickup. I can't get a good sound from it.

Comments about Yamaha A-Series All Solid Wood Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp/Pickup:

The Yamaha A3R is an absolutely gorgeous guitar, and the workmanship is without flaw. Great to look at, the electronics are impressive and flexible, and the feel of the neck is nice. The sound and sustain are pleasant, but still I found I did not love playing it.

The action was just too high for me. I am no rookie at adjusting guitars, but I was unable to adjust my A3R to my liking. I concluded that the nut clearance was too great, resulting in strings to far from the fingerboard. That means greater string depression required (harder on the fingers) and notes that are too high compared to open strings. Too high notes were noticeable on all strings when using a capo. But I did not feel I should have to replace the nut on a new guitar in order to make it tune right. Some reviewers said the A3R action was great out of the box, but my A3R was not great and I could not adjust it, so I returned the guitar.

The A3R is the top of the A-Series line and I wanted to love it, but I did not love playing it. Still, I hope my issues were just a fluke or quality control lapse, since aside from the action/tuning problems I had, this would be a great guitar.
