This is best lefty I have ever played. I got the charcoal gray one about three months ago and I've been in love with it ever since. I replaced the stock pickups with an EMG 85 at the bridge and an EMG 81 at the neck and it made this guitar perfect. But the stock pickups were so good, that I dropped them in my SG. Just a great guitar. I definitely recommend this to any lefty seaching for a great guitar at a low price.
I'm left-handed, therefore have few good choices when considering a guitar. Just got this today, what a quality axe. I've never been so impressed by something right out of the box. Was not on my top 10 list of guitars to try, but saw a righty in the store and had to at least order and try one. I'm keeping it. Not kidding when I give it a 10 for quality, just amazing for the price point.
Wow! What a deal. This thing is a STEAL at this incredible price. Being a lefty, its difficult to find REALLY incredible Quality deals on FANTASTIC GUITARS! This one is Awesume! I've owned a beautiful Gibson Les Paul Custom, and it was nice, but it broke my back. I LOVE the design, the playability and the TONE! of this Guitar. With the Chambered Mahogany Body and luscious Amber Drop Top! Thank you Yamaha!!!S :)
My Standard Strat just wasn't cutting it anymore, the hum, the pickups, the pots, the weak tremolo (and it's tuning issues). With my 12-yr old son playing a superior G&L, I needed to upgrade without breaking the bank. I read about 70 reviews of this guitar by owners and virtually all were very positive. They were right... Got mine two days ago...what a sight! The pickups and pots are far superior to the Stnd Strat, as are the tuning pegs. Still getting used to the different sound and slightly wider neck...but overall, I love playing this guitar. Just put my strat up for sale.
I got this guitar about 6 months ago. I got it with a charcoal grey finish (beautiful). I replaced the stock pick-ups for a set of EMG's. The guitar sounds amazing! the semi-hollow body gives it a great, warm tone and it makes it a little more comfortable to play than my les paul. I use this guitar for prog rock/metal/experimental, but this guitar can handle pretty much any kind of music you want to play. A solid instrument. I highly recommend it.
I bought this in November after the theft of my Les Paul. Disheartened, I thought the Yamaha would just 'get me by' until I could either find the guy who stole my guitar or I could afford a new one. That was, until I played it.This thing sounds great. Period. Plugged into the same rig as my LP, the Yamaha AES has a thick tone with clarity and complexity, PLUS a better top end snap that was missing with the darker-sounding LP. The neck is just about identical, it's a bit lighter actually, and the thing just looks really great, and different. For the price, you can't beat the value. Mahogany body, set neck, maple cap, Seymour Duncan bridge pickup, Grover tuners. Yes, the binding is fake, and I'm sure there are other shortcuts on this guitar, but who cares? It plays great, sounds great and looks great. And you can use all the money you saved to buy some more crap!If you need a main guitar or just a backup...get this guitar. I play hard/pop rock, but I think this sucker will sound great in just about any band.
