Comments about Yamaha APX1200 Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp:
Good guitar in some regards: amplification, passable tone. Poor playablity, action too high, hard to press down the strings.
I would wait until Yamaha improves the playability of this instrument. The action is too high. The strings are too hard to press down on. The electronics are good, but the controls are poorly designed. They seem cheap, and liable to break off or become easily damaged. So, the minuses: poor control box design, poor playability. The good things. Thin body is more comfortable than full size guitars, though the tone is thinner. The rosewood model sounds better than the maple model. The anti-feedback is excellent. I have been trying to find a good electronic system with piezo and microphone pickups. Piezos alone sound too scratchy. Microphones have terrible feedback. Yamaha has conquered the feedback, and the amplified sound is good. No one guitar is a solution for everybody. Why? Because everyone's hands are of differing sizes. A petite girl with slender fingers needs a different neck than a big man with lumberjack hands and fat finger pads. Thus, we need different guitars suited to varying individuals. I like this guitar, but not in all regards. My choice is a series of compromises to what is offered on the market. Until Yamaha improves the ergonometrics of the electronics control panel and improves the playing action, I will pass on this guitar.
Good workmanship.
Expensive, but rosewood instruments cost more generally.
Comments about Yamaha APX1200 Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar with SRT Preamp:
Every thing about this guitar is a delight.
My only quibble is the new electrics in this model. I'm still not convinced they have improved on the original APX 20 electrics. There heve been some problems with this new system. Intermittant cut outs. However Yamaha stands behind their gear and are happy to rectify problems.
Very well built guitar.
Bright clean and great sustaining sound. A beautiful and top line acoustic guitar comparable with instruments twice the price.
Build quality is flawless the guitar is a beauty. Sounds fantastic.
For the price it is well worth it and is a far better guitar than some of these big price pretenders.
