I got this guitar for a recording project that I wanted a broad range of guitar sounds. This guitar does get me that range, and I find it easier to play that my other accoustic guitars. I also use this with A Boss Looper Pedal and the results are fantstic.
Guitar pickup & auto tuner works well. Has a cutout which improves playability. Kind of a fat sound to it amplified, a little thin unplugged.
I got the white finish model-finish was flawless. The guitar build is quite sturdy, yet compact, and very playable out of the box. Tuner works well, as do controls for the pickup.
I also have the Ibanez Talman, and the Yamaha is a little better than the Ibanez, but, not as much so as the price difference. Amplified, they are no different since my amplifier has a 5 band equalizer and I can get them to sound pretty much identical, but, unplugged the Yamaha has a much more full sound to it. I would not reccommend either of these guitars if you play unplugged more than 50% of the time though.

When I got it, it was a really nice guitar, and since I live in a pretty small NY apartment, I kept bumping it around and it was just fine, only a few scratches. However, after a few months, I thought I should redo the strings, and as I was taking them off, the nut just slid off. I picked up my guitar to inspect and then the bridge saddle fell off. There wasn't evidence of glue anywhere, so I don't know if this problem is just me or all around. Everything was fine once I redid the strings and the tension held them in again, but it was not a good choice by Yamaha. If you're a beginner, though, not a problem.

Comments about Yamaha APX500II Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I had bought a Yamaha Dreadnought, and was not overwhelmed with it so I rarely played it as I have other Dreadnoughts that I thought were better. I came back to return it and went looking fro a replacement. I saw this, and played it. The beautiful sound impressed me right away. Clear,bell-like tones on the high end and equally deep lows made me buy this guitar. It stays in tune and is a joy to play. I think any player in the spectrum would enjoy themselves on the gem. Well made and a nice price. You'll love it, as I do. It's my go to guitar.

Comments about Yamaha APX500II Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I recently purchased this guitar for my Wife and have it hanging next to my Martin. For the price it sounds great and seems very well made. It's a smaller body and my Wife found it easier to play vs a full sized guitar.
She chose the green "burst" model and it is much darker than the one pictured here. It looks fantastic.
The on-board tuner is a nice touch and seems very accurate. I have it amplified through a 60w Crate acoustic amp and am very pleased with its overall sound.
If you are looking for a beginner guitar spend the extra cash and get this one...it is far better than the "packs" guitars and well worth it. I've see the white finish model and it also looks very good - I may buy that one myself!

Comments about Yamaha APX500II Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This guitar plays like very expensive guitar, but sounds like it is priced...inexpensive. I bought this for my 11 year old. She loves it. I found that it was very easy to play. I haven't plug it in to hear the pick-ups.

Comments about Yamaha APX500II Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I was having trouble finding a guitar in the 300-400 price range. I was looking at the ibanez EW20ASE, but I realized I didn't want to spend that much money for a guitar I would only be using when plugged in. The Yamaha APX500ii is amazing when plugged in! And it sounds even better plugged into my POD XT Live. I only knew it sounded good before I bought it because I know 2 people who have them. My advice, get this guitar if your debating around this price range and your not worried about what it sounds like acoustically. I have been playing guitar for 11 years. And this is a steal for [$]. And you get to choose different colors. I chose natural, I think it looks great! I took 1 star away because no solid top. Just make sure you get decent strings if you want a little more Umph when playing acoustically. I got 12 gauge phosphor bronze strings to bring out that warmer tone. The case that fits it is the apx vinyl hard shell
