... from a tiny guitar as this one. And it is TINY - when I got it, the box looked so small, that I was thinking they sent me violins! And pulling guitar out - oh, what a disappointment! No good sound can sure come out of this mini thing. But was I wrong!!! First strike on the strings convinced me - this guitar sounds great! The tuner makes tuning 12 string much easier and the strings stay tuned after long hours of playing, even after flight from US to European gig. Both plugged and unplugged you will be treated with brisk, clear sound with enough dept. In regard to playability - action is nice and low, neck is narrow, for my fingers, just little bit too narrow, but left hand will not get tired after few songs. Being so slim and small this guitar is very comfortable to play at home on the couch or on the stage on the long gigs. Workmanship is excellent - even upsetting that Yamaha can bring such well made product from China. I tried every single fret position and every single string - no buzz. I went over the whole instrument many times and failed to find single cosmetic flaw. And I am demanding customer. Overall, I can only tell you that I was little afraid to buy this guitar without playing and seeing it live first. But now I am glad that I did. Originally, I wanted much more expensive model of different brand - I will not name it, since they do also produce great guitars - the one I tried and loved before. After I got my Yamaha, still with little doubt I went to try the "other" one to local store - and guess what? Yamaha APX 700 sounds better (to me) in direct comparison. Great buy!
I just bought mine and I love it! It has great action but I must say that I mocified the nut so the strings would be closer to the fretboard. I was really suprised at the projection for such a thin body. I think Yamaha got it right! Well balanced recording in my home studio too!
My previous order two weeks ago was an Alvarez acoustic electric 6-string. There was some fret buzz which required me to take it to the local guitar shop for fixing. Not a big deal considering what I got for the price. I've been looking for a 12-string all my life and decided on the Yamaha because my friend had one that he used for weekend gigs way back in 1984. So I figured Yamaha had a good track record. I received my APX-700 12 yesterday and must say that I was blown away by the sound from such a thin body guitar. I immediately checked for fret buzz and found none. The playability, quality, and appearence far exceeded my expectations. I have a music group and this guitar was chosen to be played at paid gigs. From what I can see, this guitar was made for "gigging". I also own two (2) Koa Taylors (K-14 CE & K-14 CE LE) which together total about 10K, but am very, very impressed with this Yamaha. Now I can take a great "battle" axe traveling and not have to worry about the "luggage gorillas" like I used to when I took my Taylors oversees. The APX-700 12 is a fine guitar, worth much more that what I paid for it, and the built in tuner comes in very handy keeping all 12 strings in tune during paid gigs. Great job, Yamaha & much MAHALO (thanks) for making superb quality available at an affordable price! I really don't want to recommend this guitar to a friend because I want to be the only guy on the block with one (ha-ha)! Aloha, from the Hawaiian Pineapple.
This guitar plays like a dream, I just got it today and I can't stop playing it. Everything is spectacular and wonderful, the kind of quality you'd expect from Yamaha. The only thing left to improve is the tuner, I found that they should have put a on/off light for the switch because the only way you know when it's off is if the notes don't appear on the screen. Other than that, everything is beautiful on the guitar and it sounds absolutly great on my Vox AC-30cc2. Get It Now because this guitar is hard to find!!
