FIRST OFF... let me say that Yamaha is making the best sub 500 guitars on the market... period! The FG720S is the BEST sub-300 guitar you can buy... hands down. Best playing, best sounding, best quality and best looking. This is not only a great beginner or student guitar... but will please even veteran players like myself looking for a good inexpensive guitar that is fun to play and we don't care too much if it falls into the flames at our next camp-fire jam session. I enjoy playing this guitar and recommend it to everyone who asks for advice on starting to play. I have been teaching guitar lessons for 8 years and when I get a fresh student that has not bought a guitar yet... they almost always get a Yamaha at my recommendation. Unless of course your that buttbag investment banker that came to me for lessons and on day one pulled out a Martin D-41... then later complained that my lesson pricing was too high and quit after 4 because he his fingers hurt.

ANYWAY.... A solid spruce top at this price point is a cash and grab... just buy it! I got the "Brown Burst" finish and it seriously impressed me as a great looking guitar! Finish is flawless and it plays great.

NOW.... its not a pro handcrafted high quality guitar.. and it doesn't sound like one either. Like any plywood body guitar it has a strong high end. Even though its a solid wood top, the spruce is thick... just because its solid doesn't mean it resonates like a Martin. Its got a good mid range and a respectable bottom end. But it is a bright sounding guitar when compared to solid wood guitars in the 500-700 range.

JUST BUY IT... seriously, you will not be disappointed. I own both the FG720S and the FG720S-12 (12-string version) I play them both regularly and enjoy them. I have never gigged or recorded them, but they are great practice guitars and great for taking on camping trips, or vacation, or that party so you can threw down some chops and get some chicks! In this price range I have personally owned Epiphone, Alverez and Fender acoustic guitars... and these Yamaha's leave all of them in dust. My main acoustic guitar for gigging and recording is a Guild... both a 6 and 12-sting... all solid wood, awesome guitars and way better than anything at a sub-300 price... but these Yamahas are pretty darn nice.

Comments about Yamaha FG720S Acoustic Guitar:

Yamaha has done it again! Solid top, vintage 'burst' look…very cool!
I bought mine used(it was five years old), it's got a few 'character marks' but feeling great about getting it used.

The sound is rich…no more laminate top guitars for me! It sounds very similar to the FG700S…what I'm thinking that it's got more 'bling'(different color bursts, cream binding) that makes it a bit more expensive than the FG700S.
The action will need to be lowered a bit, but that's not a big deal.

This is a really good value for the money…you will not be disappointed….
well, you will if you don't buy it!(you'll be missing out!)!

These are great guitars. Just make sure you don't buy yours from AUSTIN BAZAAR. They sell defective items. Mine had a warped neck and they wouldn't refund me. Awful experience with them. Just make sure you don't buy from AUSTIN BAZAAR.

Bought this for my daughter to start learning acousti on. Man, what a well made acoustic for the money. Great sound and feel, plus it looks wonderful as well (Ocean Blue color). It should last her for several years and beyond as long as she takes care of it. I like to pick it up and strum it myself, would be proud to own it.

I was suprised at how the guitar was packaged for shipping, however the instrument was in fine condition when I opened the box. It smelled like glue (still does although slightly less) is that just the new guitar smell?
Overall I am very pleased with my guitar. The finish is very nice and the sound is gorgeous. It stays in tune no problem.
I may consider lowering the action a bit since it seems a little high compared to other guitars I tested at a shop.

I have been lucky enough to be paid to play music. I have owned guitars costing many times more than I spent on this guitar. Now I just play for my Grandchildren. Right out of the box, tuned, this guitar will tell a story! Buy it you won't be sorry!

                It keeps me playing.

Great guitar for the price. I consider it a steal. But I plead not guilty in saying that. Quit playing for along time after my last Yamaha was stolen. I'm a little rusty but the guitar helps make up for that. You can't get a better guitar for the price. I was really surprised by the quuality of the strings. That plus the guitar as a whole make for a very nice rich sound. Love it!

Saw this red beast at the guitar shop down the road and fell in love. Sat down and played it for like 15 minutes. Didnt have the cash at the time so I waited a few weeks. Went today and bought it. The pics on here dont do them justice. They are beautiful giutars and play like it. Sounds better than more expensive martins Ive played. Good to see someone is making stuff to fit the common mans pocket book and still be quality.
