A lot of guitar for the money!!

Comments about Yamaha FGX700SC Solid Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Again, my only downside to this guitar are the cheap sounding electronics. If it were not for that, this entire review would be a 10.
I have owned many fine Taylors, Martins, Guilds, Washburns, you name it. I purchased this as a 'travel' guitar that I could take anywhere and leave my expensive instruments at home. As far as the guitar goes, it is a true Yamaha product. Quality instrument at a nice entry level price. This guitar holds tune, projects well, and looks great. The set up/action out of the box was great. My only complaint with it would be the electronics. They work......they just sound thin and cheap when plugged in to a PA. I would have preferred to pay an extra $50 for a quality pickup. I pulled mine out and upgraded to a nice LR Baggs electronics system. Regardless, it is a great buy.
The finish, appearance, and hardware used on this guitar are super. Very satisfied
At this price range, you can't go wrong. The playability, appearance, and finish is second to none at this level.

Comments about Yamaha FGX700SC Solid Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar and its versatility, toughness, tone and playability. The tone is wonderfull!!! I play many styles and this guitar is particularily great for writing songs with, as well as live in smallish acoustic spaces. I got it used, and that made it an even better value! The only downfall is that a 9v battery doesn't fit the way it should into the slot, but that is how it has been since I got it (used).
The tonewoods are excellent. They look beautiful and sound beautiful. TONE! This guitar puts up with abuse! I use it for many styles and lots of hard strumming. I am slightly dissapointed that my electronics don't work because the 9volt batter doesn't fit quite right in the slot, but I got the guitar used and I don't use it amped anyways, so it isn't a big deal to me.
The quality is wonderful. I have played much more costly guitars that others own, and am perfectly happy with this one. It sounds and feels just as good, if not a little heavier than, say, a Martin, but I actually like that, being primarily a bass player.
Yamaha makes great instruments for the price. This guitar is no exception! The sound is crystal clear classic steel-string acoustic sound you would expect from a top of the line spruce and mahogany guitar. (minus several hundred dollars off the top!) TONE! TONE! TONE! for the price!

Comments about Yamaha FGX700SC Solid Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I absolutely LOVE this guitar!! I usually like to play a guitar before I buy it, but this time I only read reviews online and listened to some YouTube clips of it. I had never heard of Sandburst before and really liked the look of it. I can not put this guitar down!! It plays very nicely, sounds fantastic, and looks great! I let a friend play it, and he didn't want to put it down either. I'm very impressed with this guitar.

Comments about Yamaha FGX700SC Solid Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This Yamaha guitar is fantastic! Our family plays mostly acoustic but wanted a guitar that could be plugged in if ever needed. We first went to our local Guitar Center store to try out a bunch of acoustic-electric. We wanted something that matched the deep sound of the Yamaha we already owned and were willing to buy any brand that could offer that. Surprisingly the other brands sounded "twangy." We narrowed it down to the Yamaha APX500 and Yamaha FGX700SC. The 500 had a more unique design and sounded slightly better when plugged in but the 700, by far, sounded better unplugged and still sounded awesome plugged in. This guitar is truly beautiful in design and sound.

I bought this guitar to play live with and retire my vintage guitars which I have been hauling all over the country for the past 30 years. When and if this one ever gives out I will buy another one.It has a great sound,an easy to grip neck, and to be honest I have not put this guitar down since January. It sounds great through my P.A. and for the price it was exactly what I had been searching for.

Comments about Yamaha FGX700SC Solid Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm an intermediate player and my Cadillac guitar is a Taylor DN3, which is unbelievably wonderful, but I wanted a less expensive quality practice guitar that I wasn't so paranoid about damaging. The only two I liked was this Yamaha and a Washburn DN10. I visited several shops and played both and the Yamaha was consistently good and I liked the sandburst finish. Please don't buy into the thought that this guitar can sound as good as a Taylor/Gibson/Martin guitar. Think about that. It just ain't true, but that doesn't mean the cheaper guitar is a bad thing and I would highly recommend this Yamaha to beginners and intermediate players. Generally, cheaper guitars impede progress, and that's why I advise to spend a bit more and buy this Yamaha. It plays easily and sounds good, not great, but very good. I did lower the strings by sanding the saddle and the truss rod was completely loose as expected, but it only took about 3 quarter turns to correct the neck. Anyway, I love this instrument. By the way, the electronics are also very good, much better than the K&K I put on my Taylor. Very true to the acoustic sound of the guitar. Good luck.

I reviewed a lot of guitars before buying this for my son who has been playing for years. I have been playing for 30 yrs and own 6 other guitars. We read revues that said this was a great guitar for under three hundred. We played many (including ones that were priced considerably higher). The sound and balance of this guitar is excellent.

Comments about Yamaha FGX700SC Solid Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for half price. It was new and when I saw the price in the store I picked it up and started playing it. I was sold immediately - the sound, action, and finish were comparable to guitars costing hundreds more. As it turns out, someone dropped it and smashed the bottom back edge which crushed the wood fibers, but there were no cracks, which had no effect on the guitar. I fixed it with epoxy and it has been my go-to guitar for almost a year. It sounds great plugged or unplugged - very comfortable to play and it stays in tune for weeks. The electronics are great and offer an amazing amount of diversity in sound. I may buy another one before they stop making this fine guitar - it is worth much more than the asking price! I own another more expensive Yamaha Classical Nylon NCX700 which is also a spectacular guitar. No one beats Yamaha for the price. I prefer the sound and feel of this guitar to my Epiphone EJ-200SC.

I have not felt such an easy playing guitar and was shocked at the price being so low. It is rich in tone and does not go out of tune. Nice looking and is easy to hold. The tuner works great and all i needed was a strap holder grommet drilled in by my friend . Light enough not to hurt the neck or shoulder as I have disc problems. I play this guitar every chance i get during the day or night. In my opinion it is the best deal out there for the money. I do recommend this guitar for all levels of musicians. Sounds great on my Fender Champ Tube Guitar Amp.

Comments about Yamaha FGX700SC Solid Top Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar for practice and jamming with friends. It is definitely perfect for this. Compared to my other acoustic guitars, it naturally has a highly resonant and warm mid range sound. If you're looking for heavier low end, a string change might work. I'm going to try a different set of strings to achieve this. haven't plugged it in to test the EQ/Gain/Pickup electronics yet, but the built-in tuner is very convenient. In my opinion, this is the best guitar you can buy for the price. I'm very satisfied with it.

I bought this guitar after trying out several others which had a higher price. The good looks of the Sandburst (She's a real beauty) kept drawing me back. The playability is excellent as the set up is spot on. Intonation very good. Tuners are solid and reliable. The neck suits my hand size and playing technic.
The sound projects very well unplugged and is a bit on the bright side, which is very useful. Plugged in it has a very interactive EQ which can be dialed to suit the amp in use. On flat EQ you will find it bright so play with the controls to find your preferred settings. Still a good sound, especially when you factor in the price. It is very good in a live band setting as it mixes well with other instruments. Records nicely as well.
An excellent purchase for any level of Guitarist. Highly recommended.

I had just found a broken topped acoustic and was none too happy with that and a broken other brand from a different on line company when i ordered this from MF. The other company call me unceasingly like honda dealers, merely looking for compliments, reading boiler plate 'thank yous!' for no good reason. I finally told them that after 3 returns, I was going back to Musicians Friend. Happy with the tone, the intonation, the resonance, and the electrontics, which are giving good results in both recording rigs and acoustic amps jumped into various rigs. I traded in many high end brands last year, another disappointing chain store, was given peanuts for them, and am pleased with this Yamaha. My fingers are vintage, not old worn guitars so I rid myself of the old and rang in the new, which has re-inpired my playing.

I am not an experienced player (self taught pick and strum for a few years), and have always found acoustic guitars difficult to play. This is not. I can jump to a barr F or G minor without worrying that I will get dead strings or buzzing. It plays all the way up and down the neck without inappropriate vibrations and if it is in tune at the first fret, it is still in tune at the 11th fret. It is set up perfectly straight out of the box. It has the rich ring, resonance, and projection that you can only get from a solid top. I am very impressed, especially considering the price. I haven't used the electronics capabilities yet, so can't review that.

I picked this up as a "condition 4" used, and had concerns that there would be things wrong for the extremely reduced price. There is nothing wrong with the sound. There are visual defects (some small scratches and a pretty big ding on the bottom corner where someone obviously dropped it), but nothing that hurts the sound. Since I couldn't return a "condition 4," MF was very good about describing exactly what the flaws were before I made the purchase, and they certainly did not understate the extent of the damage. They also e-mailed me pictures of the guitar. I was as happy with the customer service as I am with the guitar.
