Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This guitar is amazing for the price. I've owned for 3 years, and the solid top keeps getting deeper and deeper in tone. The sound is full and the notes resonate forever!
On the downside, the action was incredibly high. When I took to my local luthier, he made the action too LOW, and I had buzzing (even though the action was "correctly gauged" at the 12th fret). I replaced the bridge with an action "in-between," and the sound and playability is amazing. I love the smell of spruce as I play the guitar. What I don't understand is, $200 guitars made in China have compensated bridges, some even from bone. Yamaha uses a simple plastic strip-this HAS to defer from sound quality, I'd pay $5.00 more for better quality pins and bridge...
Unplugged or plugged, the sound is great. For the money, this is a tremendous value, and a worthy member of Yamaha's legendary F-series.
Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I had been searching for acoustic electric in the $500 to $700 range for upwards of a year to play with my band and every time I hit an acoustic guitar room at a music store I walked away saying the Yamaha was the best guitar in the room but not committing because I wanted to be absolutely sure. Well, I finally pulled the pin on one and let me tell you this guitar does not disappoint. Out of the box playability, no fret buzz, beautiful wood and excellent sounding unplugged. Full, rich, dynamic. It's what you hear in your head when you think acoustic classic rock. Plugged in there are no - I mean no - feedback issues. I go into a direct box and straight out of our PA and while the sound isn't the same as just a natural sound, it is close enough for the average ear. I love this guitar. The woods is awesome and it sounds good. I don't know how I feel about the Nato neck but I'm learning to accept it. It's playable but it's different than what I'm used to. To be honest, I'm starting to love everything Yamaha. This is my third puchase from them in the last year (The THR 10 and an MG82CX board) and I have been thoroughly impressed.
Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I play 2 to 3 time weekly @ 3-4 hours a gig, this guitar loves it!
I bought this FGX730SC Yamaha Guitar,to save my Martins from the abuse of weather and the outdoor / patio gigs.I adjusted the action a little and use Martin Extended life strings, and it's now my main player, love it. I bought a FG300 new in late 1968, and I still play it out. It's been a real workhorse over the years and still has fantastic sound and action.....could have sold it a thousands times.....so I've always liked Yammys. I'm now looking at the "A Series",and will probably get one soon.
Needless to say,I also love my Martins, but they're high end and now only play them in controled environments.
Fine Quality
Exceptional Value
Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Bought the Yamaha fgx730sc 3 years ago to use at open mike nights. Since then I've played in 95 degree heat, twelve degree snowy nights and at the coast in the bright sunshine. Even in these extremes it has never been difficult to keep in tune and the electronics have performed well. I use an LR Baggs para acoustic DI and Fender acoustasonic junior generally without a PA. This is sufficient for almost every venue except a large outdoor park. simple is best!
Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Guitars have come and gone, yet this one has always stayed with me. For only $500, you can't beat the solid spruce top or rosewood back and sides. People have always commented on how loud the guitar is, one of my friends even claiming it sounded better than his Taylor. With that being said, the acoustic-electric part has broken, leaving me trying to decide what to do next. (The tuner still works). Perhaps if I install a Fishman pickup system the guitar will be even better. Seems to me, however, that even if the electronics don't work, the guitar makes up for it 10x over in sound. It really has opened up since I bought it 3 years ago...
Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I played hundreds of guitars before buying this one. I have an old Martin D35, but it doesn't take well to instrumentation so I went looking for good acoustic/electric to play out. The acoustic part is beautiful. Bright but mellow tones...not clangy at all, but the electronics are fuzzy. It sounds like distortion especially when doing studio work. I hope Yamaha can improve this........it would be an awsome guitar
Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I like this guitar and Yamaha's in general. They are well built. The fret work is consistent and the finishes are pleasing to the eye. This is a very playable guitar. the sound is more limited compared to a solid wood Martin, but I like this for an intermediate player. What is missing is the resonance that the Martin gives and the fullness of the bass. This guitar like most Taylors is short weak on the bottom end and the cutaway makes that more obvious. But all around this is a good guitar that competes well with the similar priced Takamines, Epiphones, Alvarez, and Ibanez.I clearly must say that this is not in the league with the Martins, old Guilds, or Gibsons. It is not realistic to even expect that. But that does not take away from the good quality instrument this is. If you want a martin, however, say your money or buy a used one for nearly the same price (I did)
Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
Bought it on sale at Guitar-center because I needed a decent acoustic-electric guitar for church use. When I came across this one, it had a full and resonant sound that rivaled every Martin and Taylor I've played. Also, the built-in pickup is great as well as the built-in tuner being so convenient. If you're looking for a solid, well-built guitar on a midrange budget, this guitar is definitely for you.
Comments about Yamaha FGX730SC Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I'm still in college so I needed something cheap...ish that didnt sound like I got it from a dumpster and this one was an excellent choice. Ive owned it for around 5 months now, played several shows, and gone though 3 sets of strings. I still love it. The sound is better than a good portion of the taylors and martins I have played for less than 1/3 the cost.
