OVERVIEW

A polished and refined 12-string that artists have embraced all over the world.

If you are looking for an acoustic guitar with powerful sound and great playability at a reasonable price, try Yamaha's LL16-12 12-string guitar. Yamaha's traditional jumbo body guitar is rich in volume and clear in resonance, with excellent projection, wide dynamic range, and well-balanced tone. This Yamaha acoustic guitar is designed and crafted especially for professionals.

The Yamaha LL16-12 12-string acoustic guitar and all L-series guitars benefit from 8 non-scalloped braces that deliver tone that is thick and well focused. The bridges on all Yamaha L-Series guitars offer more overall mass than their predecessors to deliver greater tone from these instruments. Their smooth lines and edges keep the playing surface unencumbered. The LL16-12's neck uses a 3-ply design of rosewood between two layers of mahogany, creating a neck that is exceptionally strong and stable—great for those players who prefer low string height. Includes case.

Comments about Yamaha LL16-12 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

You really get a lot for your money with the LL16-12. The construction uses all solid wood. It's a steal at the usual street price. I got it for an even better price when MF had it on sale.

I've owned several Yamaha guitars over the years. My experience with them has always been positive. Their quality control is top notch no matter which price point. This guitar is no exception. I like the low action which is totally clean all up and down the fretboard. The tuners work well.

I will probably replace the saddle with bone or Tusq one of these days but it sounds fine out of the box.

Comments about Yamaha LL16-12 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I am a semi-pro musician who plays folk and folk-rock music in coffee houses and listening rooms, as well as private settings with friends and family. I have been in the market for a 12 string to complement my Martin 6 string. Since I plan to play it less than 1/2 the time, I didn't want to spend a fortune. I purchased this 12 string guitar after auditioning (purchasing and returning or exchanging) the following inexpensive 12 string models. I tried the entry level Epiphone DR-212 (nicely made for the price but thin sounding), Seagull S12 (very nicely made - mid priced - but the neck was too wide for my hands), Yamaha FG720S (very nicely made, played very well, but the laminate mahogany back and sides were not warm sounding), and finally this Yamaha LL16 12. Love at first strum. However, I replaced the bridge with a Colosi bone compensated saddle. The intonation is near perfect. I have done a full setup, and auditioned many string sets, settling on a custom set from .10-.50, with a wound .22 a.
I installed a K&K pure mini (standard - not 12 string model) pickup system and it sounds wonderful. I purchased this guitar from the MF website, sight unseen, in "mint" used condition. The only thing that was less than "brand new" condition was a bit of dust on the outside of the case. At this price, for a solid spruce top and solid Indian rosewood back and sides, what more could you possibly ask for? The new ARE model has the passive pickup installed already, and shallower bracing. I have a keeper indefinitely. 12 string search concluded and problem solved!!!

Comments about Yamaha LL16-12 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

This was a guitar that I'd been watching for some time. I have a Yamaha FG512 that was built in 1981 and it is a great sounding 12 string. So I'm looking for something with a little different sound. My old 12 has a deep robust sound and my new LL-16-12 has a more balanced sound. The clarity and sustain are amazing. It is so articulate that it amazes me. Kind of reminds me of a hammered dulcimer when picking single notes. The build quality, fretwork and finish are all top notch to me. The setup is so good that it will not be necessary to change anything. I played some Martins, Taylors and other brands but I couldn't find one of these anywhere to play so I ordered blind knowing Musician's Friend will take a return if necessary ( what a great company to deal with ). One thing that bothers me is Yamahas' marketing, why don't they put more guitars out there and advertise their own models a little more aggressively? They have a great product so give it a push. Suffice it to say that I'm completely happy with this purchase.

Comments about Yamaha LL16-12 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I am 51 years old, and have been a performing musician for nearly 35 years. I had a TON of 12 string experience in my formative years, but have not owned a 12 since the 1980's. I've been jonesing for one for awhile, and have been watching this one for about a year. A recent sale enabled me to pull the trigger, and I have ZERO regrets! As I opened the case, I immediately noticed the cool soft/hard case construction. It is very unusual and useful compared to normal hard cases. I picked up the guitar and inspected it. The action was low, very low…for an acoustic, and I was sure that I would notice significant fret buzz when the guitar was played…I was very wrong! Zero buzz. The fret work is exceptional. With only very minor adjustments to the tuning, I was wailing away in less than 5 minutes…right out of the box! I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone who is looking for a quality 12 string, but doesn't want to pay a high end premium price to get it! KILLER bang for the buck! Thanks Musicians friend and Yamaha! You got it WAY right on this one!

Comments about Yamaha LL16-12 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I decided I needed a 12-string to get into some Leo Kottke type tunings and style. I've set this up with mediums and open E tuning. The woods are great and respond very well to this type of playing. Be advised that you will need to get rid of the stock saddle and pins, as these are horrible cheap plastic. I've replaced these with bone. I've also noticed that the tuners are somewhat misaligned in the way they're mounted, but I kinda plan to replace these as well, as they are pretty much generic sealed-gear tuners. The Chinese manufacturers are actually starting to turn out some really nice product...this is no exception, minor bobbles aside. I still think there is no excuse for putting a plastic saddle and bridge pins on an axe with solid englemann/ solid rosewood. All in all, though...well worth the money if you don't mind making some minor upgrades.

I like the full sound, particularaly from the base strings, but having treble strings in the middle makes it even more interesting. 12-string demands its own playing style, but opens up a new creative avenue to explore, and this instrument really powers it out there. I bought it sight-unseen, based upon the reviews, and couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.

THIS WAS MY FIRST SERIOUS GUITAR IN MY LIFE AS A TEENAGER. I JUST ACQUIRED IT AGAIN AND I COULDN'T BE MORE SATISFIED. I THINK I'LL CHANGE OUT THE STRINGS AFTER THEY BREAK TO GET EVEN BETTER TONE. THE SETUP IS LOW AND VERY WELL DONE ALL THE WAY UP THE FRETBOARD. THE CASE IT CAME IN WAS BETTER THAN THE ONE I HAD WAITING FOR IT WHEN IT SHIPPED. NOW I'M TEMPTED TO GET THIS IN 6-STRING TOO!

Comments about Yamaha LL16-12 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

Got this guitar about 2 ago and couldn't be happier with it. The sound really projects and has great tone. The factory strings really weren't that bad, but I installed a set of Martin FX strings anyway. Silky clean sound. The only other guitar I tried before this one was the Martin D12X1AE. The Yamaha blew it away. Tuners work great and great overall construction. Also very nice it came with case included.

Comments about Yamaha LL16-12 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I have an old Yamaha FG-435 I got in the eighties that I love, so when I decided to buy a new 12-string, I started looking at Yamahas. I almost got their FG series 12-string, but decided to upgrade to the LL16-12 instead. Man, am I glad I did! This guitar is absolutely wonderful. It looks great. And it feels and sounds even better. The tone is rich and well-balanced when strumming. Single note licks and power chords have an incredible bass growl. And boy is this guitar loud if you use a pick! It's much mellower if you finger pick. I love the satin finish on the neck. Very comfortable. Stays in tune very well. I've been playing this Yamaha LL16-12 for about two weeks now, and I can't find any flaws - no blemishes or construction errors, nothing I don't like or wish was different. I love this experience of playing a hand made guitar.

I also had a very good experience ordering this guitar from Musician's Friend. It's hard to slap down money for an instrument you haven't ever seen, but the process was very convenient and the product is top notch!
Nothing fancy, but everything well done. The woods used in making this guitar are top notch and beautiful. The sound is awesome! The abalone rosette is very pretty. Came with a "semi hard case" that is very nice, and unexpected. The case is quite sturdy and versatile (can even be rigged to be worn as a backpack!). I wouldn't use it to check my guitar in an airplane, but everything up to that would be fine.
Very high quality. Can't find a rough spot or blemish. Every fret is perfect. Tuners are very stable. The inside is very clean, no excess glue.
I feel that I have gotten way more than my money's worth.
