OVERVIEW

A solid rosewood and Englemann spruce dreadnought with rich low end with quick response.

Part of Yamaha's L Series, the LL16RD features all-solid rosewood back and sides with a hand-selected premium Engelmann Spruce top. A newly designed bracing pattern and A.R.E. treatment create rich warmth and open resonance while maintaining excellent tone balance. In addition, a new comfortable neck profile and Yamaha's Zero impact pickup ensure you a stress-free performance on stage.

A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement)
A.R.E. is an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. Through precise control of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years.

New Designed Bracing Pattern
A modified non-scalloped bracing design retains the L series' characteristic bright tone while enhancing low-end tone.

High Comfortable Traditional Neck Profile
A reevaluation of string spacing, string height, fingerboard binding, and neck taper led to a new neck shape that better fits today's traditional players. The new design offers stable grip and smooth playability over the full length of the neck.

5-Ply Necks
The 5-ply neck of mahogany and rosewood designed with a volute at the headstock plus a double action adjustable rod creates a neck with excellent strength and stability.

SRT Zero Impact Pickups
The SRT Zero Impact Pickup system is a newly developed passive type pickup configuration designed to minimize the pickup's impact on the tone and traditional appearance of the instrument. The system utilizes individual piezoelectric elements for each string to faithfully reproduce the dynamic sound of the L Series and give the instrument outstanding presence when playing in a band.

Comments about Yamaha LL16RD L Series Solid Rosewood/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

For the money, this is a great value. That doesn't mean is isn't attractive or easy to play or that it doesn't sound very nice. It is all of those things and then some, more than the sum of it's parts really. As it is all wood, it will season and sound even better as it ages too. If you can get past the fact that it isn't a Ma...., or Ta.... or other "big" name, you'll be as impressed as I am. The passive pick-up is icing on the cake. It has a big voice and superb sustain. This really is one fine acoustic when all is said and done!!

Comments about Yamaha LL16RD L Series Solid Rosewood/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm an unabashed fan of Yamaha guitars. I think you get the best bang for the buck especially when getting into their higher end LL series. This is a beautiful guitar (LL16 D for deluxe) with a rich tone on par with other manufacturers acoustics at twice the price. I've played them all. It's a balanced warm tone probably somewhere between a Martin and a Taylor. as its a passive pickup (no battery) you'll have to consider that you'll need a DI box if gigging out. Passive into a 1/4" input of a board will produce unwanted results. But I think it's worth it. The A series has a cutaway and onboard electronics. I wanted something without plastic or batteries to disrupt the vibration and tone of the wood. I'm keeping this one for life.

Comments about Yamaha LL16RD L Series Solid Rosewood/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The overall build quality of the guitar is very good. the quality of the wood is excellent. There are a few things I think could have been better. For example, the abalone used for the purfling/rosette is not very good quality. Some pieces are almost transparent, and it gives the inlay a kind of motley look. The fret ends are a little rough, but not terrible....easy to remedy. But the main reason I bought the guitar is for the sound....and it sounds fantastic, right out of the box! The setup is spot on. The neck is nice and comfortable, and the tuners are tight and responsive. The maple binding is a nice touch. I would recommend this guitar to others, but it might be best if you hand pick the one you want. I think the abalone inlay could have been better on a guitar of this price range. I gave the guitar 4 stars because of the abalone, but the build quality, sound, and playability deserve a solid 5 stars.

Comments about Yamaha LL16RD L Series Solid Rosewood/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have put my new guitar in other musician's hands and they are always made into Yamaha believers. I know of two HD-28 guitars that can't hold a candle for my Yamaha. I'd compare it to a really good D-18 though, maybe a Custom shop D-18V. Yamaha is definitely playing in a different price range though. Look out Martin, Gibson and Taylor.

Comments about Yamaha LL16RD L Series Solid Rosewood/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm in total AWE with this guitar. An incredible guitar, incredible sound & incredible workmanship. I went out guitar shopping and played several Martin, Taylor & Collings Guitar. They priced from $2,500 to $8,500. The higher end Collings & Martins had a great sound. But, my budget was $1000. I played several Taylor & Martin guitar costing $2,550 to $3,800 and I was disappointed. They were lacking...to say the least (especially considering their price tag).
I did some research and decided to buy the LL16D. The moment I took it out of the case and started playing it, I knew I made the right choice. The guitar is easy to play, it's beautiful (with the abalone binding & fretboard inlays). The sound is a balanced crisp, bright sound with plenty of bass plus amazing sustain. The sides & back are book matched rosewood with a beautiful grain pattern. The top is an exceptional quality engleman spruce often found on $5,000 + guitars. This sounds like an aged Martin HD-28 or D-45. I do alot of fingerstyle playing and its very responsive. It blew away a Martin D-42 ($5000) that I compared it too and equally beautiful in appearance.
Check out this guitar. It's available as the LL16 with standard dreadnaught maple wood trim (D-28).
I am thinking about buying another one like the 12 string mode (LL-12) and the LS16 (small jumbo).
Trust me when I say that you won't be disappointed. I'm sold on the Yamaha LL series guitars! Amazing guitars at an amazing price!
