Comments about Yamaha LL6R L Series Rosewood/Spruce Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
This is a 5 star guitar for what I paid for it. I was drawn to it because of the ARE treated Englemann top, the six-crystal piezo pickup, and I prefer a rosewood fingerboard which this guitar has. So, first strum- D major. I was shocked at the sound that came out of this guitar. My wife, who doesn't know a thing about tone terminology, described is as open, almost too open. I have two old dreads: a 40 year old Martin and a twenty year old Larrivee and this Yamaha is more open sounding out of the box. So ARE works. Second, the piezo system sounds really nice. I put nice electronics in my acoustics and the stock electronics in this guitar sound pretty darn good. Third, the fingerboard is slick as snot with good fret work so nice job there too. The shape of the neck is not my favorite but it's still very playable.
I'm still learning this guitar but I will say that I am amazed at how open and bright it is for a rosewood guitar. Maybe it's the lamination or the Englemann top. Maybe it's a combination. You can definitely hear the rosewood though. I bought this guitar as a beater but I'm beginning to think of it as something special. Maybe I just got a good one.
