Yamaha Guitarlele

Features:

The workmanship is very good. Neck, tuners, frets, scale, action all good.

Quality:

Considering the price this is an excellent little instrument. I can not find a flaw. In one review someone said the sound quality was poor, I don't find this to be true. Maybe it depends on your expectations, I don't know, but for the price I have no complaints.

Value:

Excellent. I gave up the guitar several years ago for a banjo. During my guitar days I was not so impressed with the lower price guitars on the market. However, I don't find this to be true today. Some excellent instruments out there, including this one, for very reasonable prices. I'm not a professional, just into this for my own enjoyment. This Guitarlele does what I expected, stays in tune, sounds good to me, fits my needs. I am happy.

Overall:

To me this is an excellent little instrument for the price. It fits my needs. I knew what I was looking for and I found it.

YAMAMA GUITARLELE FAILURE

| Review By: RONALD ALPER | 2 weeks, 2 days ago

Features:

First off let me say I own an electric acousitc Ibanez from musician's friend.  I also own a 3/4 size Martin.  I hate a full size guitar so the Ibanez and martin are perfect for me.  I am self taught 2 years i mostly do finger picking and strumming rhythm.

I saw on yourtube some great videos of the guitarlele.  I do not play the uke but I thought this would be fun.  LET me give you my thoughts.  Since i don't play classical I can't do the finger styles and individual notes like a lead or classical does.   the guitarlele is too  small. I have small hands but i can't get a decent BARRE chord on this thing.  it is so damn small that it is very hard to hold to BARRE.  I am not using a strap which might help.

The sound is annoying as can be.  I put a capo on the 5th fret of my ibanez and that is annoying as can be.  that is the sound this UKE produces all the time.  I HATE nylon strings and that is all you can keep on this.

NOW I will admit that the youtube vids those players have the talent i don't and they can make some pretty music on this thing.  I bought it as I thought it would be a fun guitar like my 3/4 martin.  this is a 1/4 size and it is too little.  I am getting some practice in on it and i am playing it better but it is a huge disappointment.

If you are a uke player you might like this.  If you are a guitar player you are better off buying a 3/4 size if your fingers and body can play that small a  guitar- or buy a thin body like the ibanez.

Again i have heard people play this who are much more talented than I am and this sounds nice-but my advice-save your money and buy something useful

Quality:

I am guessing the quality is ok.  I just hate this purchase

Value:

I am sorry I bought it.. READ the whole review

Overall:

READ above. I hate this thing... I love Musician's friend.  I have only bought from them and I will continue to only buy from them.  I do not like this guitarlele and as I said above- if you are a guitar player who wants to learn the UKE this might be good but if you think you will enjoy this strickly as a small guitar you are wrong... happy playing

Set your expectations low and you won't be disappointed

Features:

The sound is dull and does not sound like a ukulele in spite of the body  being the size of a tenor uke.  It does not project at all and sounds like a  kid’s toy guitar tuned up to “A”.

Quality:

The overall fit and finish is terrible. The cutouts in the headstock are rough with sawdust visible under the satin finish. The finish over the entire neck and body is also rough because of particles of dust throughout the finish. These are not sprayed in a dust-free clean room.

The edge of the fretboard is gouged like it went through a planer against the grain. The fretwork is marginal. The tuning pegs are junk. The faux binding is pitted.

The manufacturer slopped glue on the top when the bridge was set. They tried to scrap is off and then sand it with either a fine grit sandpaper or steel wool. There were five spots around the bridge, each about the size of a quarter, and each very visible. The scraping/sanding was not in the direction of the grain either. Each spot is a different direction. At best, the instrument I received would be considered “B-stock” with significant cosmetic flaws.

Value:

This instrument truly is on par with a toy guitar and should be selling for $30 at Toys R Us. I’m sad to see Yamaha puts its name on the headstock.

Overall:

Based on the reviews I read, I’m really shocked at the poor quality and sound. They must be making these guitarleles cheaper now then back when those favorable reviews were written.

Features:

fun little guitar frets are a little cramped but after a while I got used to it. I wasnt so sure about the sound at first but after a week it sounds pretty good to me , maybe it needed a little break in period, stays in tune fairly well.  Overall I like it its nice change and I can play it in the car while my wife drives.

Fun Little Instrument

Quality:

The quality isn't the best but what do you expect for the price? The fret ends on mine were kicked out and sharp, almost unplayable. I filed them down and its pretty good now. Action is fine, there's no trussrod, don't know if it will need one of not.

Value:

All in all, still a decent value. I've had lots of fun with mine, can't wait to record with it.

Overall:

The best thing about the Guitalele is the idea of it. Its incredibly small and still plays like regular guitar. Great for travel, comes with a thin soft case. Its gets nice classical and uke type tones, no bass at all but wasn't really expecting it to. I added strap buttons, its hard to keep the instrument in place without them. I'd love to see a model with a transducer in it.  The quality isn't the best but what do you expect for the price? The fret ends on mine were kicked out and sharp, almost unplayable. I filed them down and its pretty good now. Action is fine, there's no trussrod, don't know if it will need one of not.  All in all, still a decent value. So far I've had lots of fun with mine, can't wait to record with it.
