Very happy with my NTX700 - For a guitar in this price range it sounds and plays very well, and it looks vaguely exotic and sexy too, an aspect that can't be ignored for a stage performer. I use it weekly for either solo cocktail jazz or with a pop/smooth jazz band, plugged directly into either a Fishman Soloamp or a Mackie board. It is currently strung with D'Addario EJ46 hard nylons.
The fingerboard is somewhat narrower than a standard classical, and is comfortable and consistent. Along with the 14 fret neck and cutaway the neck is perfect for fusion and jazz, though a bit narrow for classical music. The matte finished neck is very nice to play. The electronics are basic, requiring a little help from the board to get a detailed sound that is not too midrange heavy for my taste. The physical balance of the guitar is excellent. The top seems heavily braced and the finish is thick, giving it a rich though not lively sound. The guitar sounds clear and well defined played with fingernails, and using a plectrum gives it a particularly bold sound that is, again, great for trio jazz. The onboard tuner works well and is very convenient.
The quality of the woods, construction and finish are all topnotch for a guitar in this price range. No sloppy woodworking or glue joints. The nut, fretwork and saddle are all well dressed, intonation is excellent.
I am very pleased with the guitar - I used a Godin Multiac for years which had a beautiful amplified sound, but I didn't like the bridge/saddle structure or the lack of dynamic feel. This guitar cost me far less, is equally effective to the audience, and I enjoy playing it more.

The saddle was set too high and did not follow the radius of the fingerboard at all. I would have kept this rig except it was uncomfortable for my wrist and hand to play it. If a proper setup had been done then maybe all would have worked for me. The setup was too far off to be attractive to me.
I was trying to replace my heavily used Yamaha APX-6NA and found my old unit still more to my taste.
The NTX700 has potential if set up properly.
Everyone has to get their own good feel from a guitar - players are not all the same - guitars aren't either.

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:
I'm an acoustic folk/rock singer songwriter. I'm more of a strummer than a finger picker. I bought this because I wanted something more comfortable on my fret hand, as extended sessions with my steel string were taking their toll. This more than solves that problem. It is a much softer tone than a steel string, but I'm finding that I prefer it. I don't have to sing "over" the guitar, and my vocal tone and control has improved as a result. My previous nylon string guitars had a lot of issues with intonation and tuning, but this one is spot on. The electronics are good too. I don't really like the piezo "quack" from any acoustic electric, but this one is smoother than my steel string. It responds really well to my Fishman Aura dreadnought pedal. I know they have a dedicated Aura for nylon, but this one sounds great so no need to replace it. The string spacing is a perfect blend between a steel string and a nylon. There isn't much adjustment from my old playing style and now. It is light and thin, and can be held for extended periods without discomfort. This guitar excels in this price range, although I think any mid range guitar should at least come with a gig bag. It is definitely a good buy that you won't regret.

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:
My friend has this guitar....tried it....and liked it from the start...waited for the right deal online from MF. It's everything I expected and then some! The only thing I would add is a finger-pick guard. The construction and appearance....flawless! I have a 20 yr. old Takamine classical with the same fretboard width....this guitar had a better pickup...and about the same acoustically.

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:
Outside of a setup that felt like quicksand on the high end, it arrived in top shape; every bit as pretty as you could imagine. It needed some tlc and, since this is different than almost any other nylon string guitar, with its narrow extended neck, it took me a few days of work with it to start to understand its virtue.
This is a really, really sweet sounding instrument with a tone that is as pure as you could ask from a thin-body. No, it doesn't have a booming dreadnought voice, but it has an effective pick-up system, and for unplugged it's ideal for jazz, folk, folk-rock, alternative, latin, etc. The only problem is that I play none of these. However, though I'm not tempted to move in these musical directions, I find this box ideal for song writing, voice acompanyment in practically any genre.
I personally lean to country, inde, and progressive rock (not sure what this really means any more), and stupid songs I make up on-the-spot for the kids.
Summing this up:
1. Great pickup and equalizer
2. Terrific, if not loud, tone and clarity
3. Great looks, fit, finish
4. Solid spruce top
5. Obviously good QA with the exception of the floating trampoline of strings when it arrived.
6. Great nylon for those who play electric and steel string and want to play a nylon without going through neck-shock.

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:
I really liked the slim body and the fit between the classical neck and acoustic neck made it easy to transition from classical style to the acoustic stuff I know. The unplugged sound was more than I expected. It came with a sound hole plug for live playing, which I have not done with this guy yet, but I don't think it will be a issue. I would liked to be able to get the action faster, but I got it to better than most classical's. Overall I'm very happy with it and will most likely buy its brother (full body classical) to add to my collection.
Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:
Yamaha NTX700 is a versatile guitar. It is a hybrid between a steel-strung acoustic guitar and a nylon-strung classical guitar. Its neck joins the body at the 14th fret, so it looks like and feels like (when you hold it) a steel-strung acoustic guitar. But it is nylon-strung and the fretboard is wide, so it sounds like and feels like (when you play it) a classical guitar.
Finish is impeccable. Everywhere you look, it is smooth. It has a relatively small and thin body size. So, you cannot expect a large volume and richness in sound when you just play it without an amp. But it is easy to carry around, and it does two things for you. You can play chords as if you were playing a steel-strung acoustic guitar, and you can also play melodies as if you were playing a classical guitar.
Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:
Great guitar , playability is just limitless for a classical guitar, neck is perfect, its not the oridinary nylon strings guitar neck but you would feel it freindly for sure. and the looks of the guitar is just beautiful. ah the pick ups are really cool too, i didnt try it but once but it was loud, clear and pure sound.
Pros
- Good electronics
- Good size for me
- Onboard tuner is good
- Very nice looking
Cons
- Neck felt awkward
- Setup not good

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:
Let me be the first to say here that a bone saddle makes a big difference. I got a blank and matched up with the original and lowered it about a 64th. Later I'll make a bone nut.
Also this is not for everyone but I use a MXR Dyna Comp with this guitar. It is totally transparent with the nylon strings. It evens out everything and balances the volumes if you use a pick even. I only use a bit of compresson but tell you what you wont be able to put this guitar down with it. It opens up a big world of styles with it.
This is a really nice playing guitar for the money bar none.
The neck is very comfortable. I could be a tad wider but if you are a thumb over the neck player you wont have any problems playing this guitar.
Finished perfectly. All frets are finished nicely on the ends no sharp protruding edges.
