I've been looking to get a Pacifica for quite a long time &, for whatever reason, never pulled the trigger. What a mistake! I got the PAC112J simply because, for the cost, I thought it would be a good platform for modding & I couldn't see spending more money for things that I would change out anyway. I was pleasantly suprised when I received the Pacifica. The quality easily surpassed my Fender American Series Strat which had several buzzes on the fretboard & needed some fret work to bring it up to my standards. The Pacifica's neck & fretboard were flawless, comfortable & had an outstanding feel with no buzz on any notes what so ever. The body, paint, bridge & tuners were all high quality &, in the case of the tuners, kept the ax in tune quite nicely after stretching the new strings. The big suprise for me was the electronics. The SSH setup is incredibly versatile & gives me access to whatever style that I want to play from hi-gain rock to SRV to finger-picked clean to some almost jazz-acceptable tones. I've been playing for 40 years & I'm primarily a classic rock & blues player having had many guitars, some very expensive & sought after & some not so expensive, but, very nice instruments, over the years. The tone of the Pacifica is outstanding & I actually like the single coil sound a bit better than my American Strat. The single coils have a bit more mid range & less brittleness than traditional Strats. A plus in my view. The humbucker is very versatile although I have had to roll off the tone control a bit to suit my tonal taste. It has a very good sound, clean or distorted & sounds especially good when palm-muting. This brings me to the pots & switch. The switch is a 5-way switch & seems to be of good quality. The pots are outstanding having some of the best taper, in both volume & tone, that I have seen in any guitar costing under $2000. You can roll off the volume, even using digital amp modelling, & get that nice distortion roll-off that is so useful. The tone pot will actually change the tone gradually instead of making things muddy. All in all, I have found the Pacifica to be much greater than the sum of its parts & much more than a starter's guitar. I will not hesitate to gig with this ax with no worries. Having played for 4 decades, I long ago lost my brand snobbery. I evaluate a guitar by the quality of the materials used, the workmanship & feel of the ax & the tone, not the name on the headstock. If I can get the tone that I & my audience are after & it's a quality instument, then I'll gig with it & enjoy playing it. The Pacifica is such an instrument & one that I find myself playing constantly. My advice for anyone seeking this type of guitar is don't wait, pull the trigger. You will be pleasantly suprised as I was!

No unhappy endings here, buy it--try it, see/hear for yourself. This is not my first Pacifica and not my last, I have always been impressed with Yamaha's attention to detail and the materials used, Is the PAC112J for every one, probably not, but it certainly will fit the needs of the vast majority of newbies and intermediate players. Do not think of it as a cheap entry level beater, it is far better than that! These guitars will do the blues, country, rock and even gospel very well indeed. Heavy metal? Not so much. Jazz? Maybe a fake! The short of it, the Pacifica really is versatile and covers most of the musical genres you might want to play.
The short of it! Buy a Yamaha Pacifica PAC112! Why? Value, Quality, Fit/Finish, Playability, Tone and other stuff like that. It truly is a best buy for the money amd compares with other brands at over twice the price. This latest run is from Indonesia and I gotta tell ya, thoe guys have got there act together for now, have seen many other Indonesia build guitars and the workmanship is pretty dang good for the price point. No lie, the Indo line quality approaches the Korean line that builds many big names we will not drop here! Since there are no 10's at this price point, the PAC112 is truly worth of a 9 rating!
As stated already, the quailty is there, you will not be disappointed, great feel, especially the PAC112 neck, it has a very different taper and radius, it is flat and fast, quite comfortable, it will surprise you. The alder body is always a plus at $200 bucks and the contour/weight ratio seem to fit very well, the big names do not do it any better. The pickups are middle road, BUT, do not replace until you have had a real pro setup and adjusted the pickups to their proper height for tonal balance; expect a warm/fat tone similar to the Fender Strat, the G&L Legacy etc. The bridge humbucker has lotsa punch and a very proper timbre, leave it alone, it mixes well with the singles! The stock pickups do render those notch positions that we all love and enjoy, they are pretty lively and cheeky, not so dry as many others we have heard. The enclosed machine tuners are more than adequate, why spend more? I have the Lake Blue model and it is a very fine finish indeed, the usual body section ghosts do not appear thru the finish, good job Yamaha! In recent years the big boys have gotten very careless in this regard, mismatched pieces of wood just thrown together, the surface of the body shows these anomalies thru the finish, ugh, you should expect and demand much more from name brands selling at $500-800 bucks, send 'em back!
In a few words, the value of the current Yamaha PAC 112J is undeniable and will give every guitar at the $200 price point a kick in the butt! It truly is a standout at this price point!

This was my first full-size electric. The pickups are about as versatile as it they get. The single-coils are relatively low-noise, and the humbucker is great for just about everything. It stays in tune pretty well even through crazy whammy use. All in all a GREAT buy!

Maybe I'm naive or I built such a righteous plexi-clone, but I don't understand the put-downs about the pickups. Just turn up the volume and they growl sing and shriek, and quiet they're sweet. To get the cluck I even had to back them off from the strings. The tone control really works. A cool little guitar. BTW I've always loved their acoustics and their LL-11 is also a beaut. Thanks again Yamaha!

I picked this up as my midlife crisis present to myself. Despite the price, this is a very solid instrument- the neck feels nice and fast, the frets are well dressed and the HSS combination allows me to play anything from Cash to Metallica. The pickups aren't the greatest, but they work well enough and are easy to replace if you want something hotter. If you put on heavier strings than the 0.09s this comes with you'll probably need to add some springs to the tremolo to keep the bridge down- standard Fender springs work fine. I was strolling through a guitar store the other day and fiddling with various instruments and was surprised- the only instruments I really preferred to this were $1000+. *Much* nicer than the Squires in the same price range.

I have used this guitar model (all five color choices) in my guitar class for over 10 years. It is an extroidinary guitar that serves classroom situations nicely. The neck body construction, tuners, and electronics make it an excellent choice for those wanting a guitar that can do it all and take typical classroom abuse. It has great tone range with its pickup system. Many kids prefer this model over their own when performing. Add a gig bag and cable, and you are in business. Only modification that may be necessary is replacing the input jack with a metal upgrade after it breaks. The price on this instrument makes it an excellent purchase for long term use. Get this model! Not the Pacifica 012. Your kids will love you!

I have owned this guitar for the past 13 years. Since then I have modified the guitar by replacing all pickups, adding the x-bridge, and a crapload of switches making her more versatile than ever. This guitar has great potential, you can hear it's acoustic quality without even being plugged in. That's why I chose one, but sound more incredible now than when I got it stock. You need to raise the bridge quite a bit to get rid of fretbuzz.

I got this guitar a while ago, and I must say, this is probably one of the worst guitars I have ever played.Pros:- Single-coil pickups sound nice.- The neck is smooth- Can take a beating (I've dropped it more times than I can count, and there's not a scratch on it)Cons:- Does not stay in tune well (don't even think about using the tremolo or a capo)- Humbucker pickup is too bright- Too much fret buzz (I adjusted the action many times, but it's no use)- Strap buttons don't seem to work very well, as my guitar is always falling.Overall, I'd say this is a good 1st guitar, but if you've been playing for more than a year, I would get something of better quality.

the overall best guitar for a beginner all the way to pro. the price is incredible it sounds as a much more expensive guitar. i had it for 7 years played it over and over and i love it. i truly have abuse this guitar. its true the pick ups might not be great but the output on this guitar is amazing from clean chanel to trash. the neck is thin it has 22 frets rather than the limited 21 on a fender. great for chord proggressions and a machine for the solos. the only problem is that it tends to get out of tune a lot specially if you are a heavy tremelo player.. this is still my main guitar its not a perfect sound but it sure is a guitar that will define your sound if you know how to handle it.
