You Rock Guitar

A MIDI guitar with plenty of uses and zero latency.

The YRG is a MIDI guitar for recording, composing, and creating Tablature via MIDI. It can also be used stand-alone with its internal sounds.

This YRG marks the next evolution of the ever popular YRG-1000 by Inspired Instruments Inc., also known as YouRock Guitar. It is yet to be beat as the first fast tracking, no latency, affordable digital MIDI guitar on the market. The YRG’s patented fingerboard technology and electronics have revolutionized the way a guitar player, other aspiring musician or DJ can create, record and play music.

The YRG connects to a host of mobile devices including the popular iPad to use with GarageBand. It also connects via USB to the MAC and PC. The YRG can be used with most recording and tablature software such as Logic, Reason and Ableton to name a few. Also compatible with Legacy MIDI synthesizer devices via its 5-pin MIDI connector. This versatile instrument never needs tuning and is backpack friendly. For beginners, or, if you enjoy games like Rocksmith and RockBand, the YRG is a perfect crossover instrument to real guitar playing.

Performance
New pickup system for improved reliability and consistency and firmware improvements to complement the new pickups.

Features
Firmware has been tweaked for a more musical experience. The new Layer and Zone structure allows two sets of sounds to be mapped on the fingerboard per user selection. Other new features: chorus effect, transposition, pan, zones can be stored per layer in the 99 presets.

Sounds
The onboard sounds are all new. Through a relationship with a professional sample house the built-in sound library is completely reworked to enhance the stand-alone capability of the YRG .

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

I have owned Roland and other solutions, the YRG gen 2 is quick, no latency which means no lag.All of the other solutions that I can think of either have buttons or have lag due to analog to digital conversion issues, I think anyone who plugs this one into Ipad Garage Band will be hooked. chords through the sonus type gadgets sound muddy to me.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

I own a Roland Ready Fender Strat with a Roland GR-55 guitar synth that does not track as well as this YRG which costs a heck of a lot less. I use this with VST plugins in my DAW and sounds good. I also use it with Garage Band on my Ipad. The internal sounds are not very good in my opinion. Slides, hammerons and pulloffs and no string bending can be difficult depending on what instrument sound you are using. It is not the perfect solution but it is not bad for the money.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

Almost sent the YRG back until I talked myself into getting IKM iRig MIDI connector and try out Sample Tank for iPad and WOW what an amazing difference that made. Now all of the notes on the neck played. I play on the tab mode and I don't have to pluck or strum the strings: it is simple and sounds better trying to emulate a piano or organ or strings.
Terrible guitar, but you cant play a B3, Violin, or Brass Trio on a guitar. So I would recommend the YRG as long as you have the iRig MIDI connector and ST for iPad. USB to USB connection to the desktop computer is not as good, but have not used desktop since getting MIDI connector. Gotta get back to playing the YRG !!!

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

Have been using this as a MIDI instrument for over a year and have had no problems. People talking about latency must be using it improperly through PC, because I have never experienced any through my macbook.

The instrument replicates a guitar well, but requires a little getting used to. I use this to translate my guitar knowledge into making electronic music and it works perfectly for that. VERY fun to map the whammy, knobs, and buttons to various parameters in DAWs...

Also, great customer service through the company.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

If you're looking for an affordable, solid and versatile midi controller you need to get this. Really awesome design. I usually plug into Logic or Reason and won't stop playing for hours. The neck is wide so you can hack out some pretty awesome chords and licks (almost feels like you're playing a mini Chapman stick). Super portable, neck is removable. The knobs and buttons are all automatable so endless possibilities with DAWs. Hardware synths are solid. It's a tad small, but the new YRG pro coming out should take care of that. Love these guitars, I have two and definitely will get whichever product they release in the future.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

As someone already said, this is not a guitar; it's a guitarr-like MIDI instrument that allows you to connect to a synth and play whatever sounds it offers using some of your guitar technique. No bending, no vibrato - on the fret there are no strings, just fretboard shaped to let you feel where your fingers are. Tapping is possible but you have to turni it on or off, and so on.
But this instrument-toy can be used to practice scales or record neat synth-like parts and effects. If you get used to some latency, you might even be able to use it live.
The feel is that of a cheap plastic toy because that's what it is, really - hollow plastic body with some electrinics inside. Its preset sounds are also cheap and amateurish, of very limited or no usability.
All in all, it's a neat toy but for the real MIDI guitar without buying a whole pickup/converter, I'll try one of those SONUS MIDI converters.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

This is overpriced for what it is. It feels like a cheap toy. You CANNOT play this like a normal guitar. It would take a complete rewiring of my instincts to properly play this. Muting open strings is a huge pain (touch a metal strip on the bottom of the bridge with the palm of your hand). Plucking a string at the same time as hammering the fret will produce an annoying double-pluck. I never realized how important string muting control was when playing a real guitar until I tried this thing.

If you play guitar already, don't bother with this. The feel of it is all wrong. If you just want a cool controller for video games, then this thing is probably pretty cool. If you can't play piano and just want a quick and dirty way to enter notes into your sequencing app (which you'll have to clean up later), then this might work OK. If you're willing to majorly rewire how you play guitar, then maybe it is fine.

The picture shows this with that little black plastic piece above what would be the nut, but that piece is NOT included, leaving the end of the fret board just abruptly squared off. Also, MF sent me what was obviously a restock (I ordered new). If you order this, you might be getting the one I'm about to send back.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

When using as a soft synth contoller through the midi out there is little to no latency and it tracks well. This isn't the answer to the midi guitar. However it will open up a creativity that you probably have never experienced when controling synths. It does not take the place of a guitar. Check out the review in last months Electronic Muscian.
