I do not own this, but I have used one many times while working as a Mobile DJ.

I gave it 4 stars because its not a top of the line product, and could use some tweaking. But all in all, not a bad setup for the price.

A lot of reviews seems to be more along the lines of being setup by people who don't know what they are doing. I'm not saying their dumb or an idiot. They just don't have experience in proper setup.

The review about needing the mic close to the mouth, This is from not knowing the difference between mic gain, and master vol. Lac of experience, and/or knowledge in setup.

Turn master vol. down to where you can just hear yourself talk. Keep the mic away from the mouth few inches, talk normally, sing, etc. and adjust the mic gains till you can clearly hear yourself talk(while keeping mic away from mouth). Now adjust the master vol.(located on the sound system your using, and/or mixer). Should be good to go. The More gain, the further away from mic you can be, but be careful, if your around the speakers, for you could get feedback. If you do, simply, slowly, little at a time adjust mic gain down, and volume up etc. till you get the results you want.

As for the cutting in and out review. One thing that wasn't mention that I think may be key here is, the location you placed the receiver. If you have it on or close around other electronics. This is going to cause you issues.

You may not know, other electronics such as but not limited to, mixers, power amplifiers, Computers, etc. pretty much anything that plugs in. emits electronic frequencies. Even a simple extension cord, and cell phones. These frequencies can cause interference.

Another issue could be, if you have a cabinet setup, and the receiver is located in the cabinet. Again located around other electronics.

My suggestion, set it up where you can place the receiver about 10-20ft at least away from all your other equipment, and make sure there isn't anything(powerful electronics such as what was mentioned above) in-between the receiver and the area that the mics are going to be used. This should fix the signal problem of cutting in and out. Another thing to check, is battery connections, and the cord from the receiver to your mixer(sound system). Bad cord can cause big problems!

As for the other cons you mentioned. Cord being too short, this is a cheap fix... Wouldn't worry about that. Think you can get a good quality cord 20ft long right here on this site.

I am a mobile DJ and purchased this item based on a recommendation from the GC employee. The item was on sale and figured it would be worth a try. It seemed to work fine when I tested it at the house...but when I took it to the venue, it started cutting in and out even around 5 to 10 feet from the receiver. I was embarrassed and had the client switch to wired microphone immediately. Since then I decided to upgrade to Shure wireless microphones, and haven't used this. I would recommend any professional users to go for something better. This is a good option for close proximity use, i.e. Karaoke, home, etc. but not for pro use. You get what you pay for.

As many said, it is NOT a high end (or UHF for that matter) system.
You get 2 wireless mics, and I use for karaoke and singers are within 20' of the receiver - no dropouts yet.
This is acceptable for karaoke where inexperienced users that may damage this gear.

This is the second set of these Mics I have purchase. The first set, I let to many people put their hands on the Mics, everybody wants to be a MC and eventually the mics where destroyed. They work very well for the price and I never had a problem with the Mics, just people and my inability to say "NO".

For a hospital-based parent support group with babies present, we needed amplification for both a presenter and comments from the audience. These wireless mics are easy to pass around. The parents just have to learn that the mic has to be held very close to their mouths.

I used this product in my home for about four months for karaoke once or twice a month. The sessions would last from 3-5 hours. The sound quality was decent at best compared to a cabled mic. The receiver ultimately failed after limited use.

Comments about Gem Sound GMW61 Dual Wireless Microphone:

We use pretty high end Shure wireless mics at our church, and for our praise team, we have about eight SM58's. But I saw these advertised recently on Black Friday, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to get some supplimental mics. I bought two sets. I assumed they'd be Karaoke quality at best... BOY WAS I WRONG. We ran it through our mixer board, and tested it. We couldn't MAKE it feed back. Maybe because it's not a very strong mic? But it worked in our favor. We are able to mix and EQ all four of them perfectly. Our pastor was 'amused', so he asked if he could preach through one last Sunday. Went off without a hitch. Every now and then, it would clip, or cut out a word, but no more than much higher quality Shure's have in the past. In all, I was very, very impressed.
