OVERVIEW

The AKG Perception Wireless Sports system with its comfortable C 544 L and ultra lightweight PT 45 bodypack transmitter ensures maximum user mobility for all hands free applications. The C 544 L headworn microphone comes with four moisture shields protecting the transducer from perspiration while you practice your favorite sport. The C 544 L uses the proven transducer of the C 555 L and is quick and easy to put on and replace.

SR 45 Stationary Receiver

The SR 45 Stationary Receiver delivers a diversity system, professional XLR and jack outputs, and the SMPS solution. The audio level and squelch threshold are adjustable on the receiver. It is a stationary receiver for use with all transmitters of the Perception wireless system.

The SR 45 operates within a switching bandwidth of up to 30 MHz in the 500 to 560 MHz UHF carrier frequency range and offers up to 8 selectable carrier frequencies.

PT 45 bodypack transmitter

The PT 45 bodypack transmitter lets you use both dynamic microphones and condenser microphones operating on a supply voltage of approx. 4 V. Naturally you may also connect an electric guitar, electric bass or keytar.

The PT 45 operates within a switching bandwidth of up to 30 MHz in the 500 to 560 MHz UHF carrier frequency range and offers up to 8 selectable carrier frequencies.

C 544 L headset microphone

The C 544 L is a head-worn miniature condenser microphone with a convenient behind-the-neck headband. Resting securely and comfortably on the head, the C 544 is the ideal microphone for any hands free application including gymnastics instruction, presentations, or onstage performances. The microphone has a cardioid polar pattern and therefore "prefers" sounds arriving from the front (from the user's mouth).

The microphone body containing the condenser transducer is shock mounted on the microphone arm in order to suppress cable and mechanical noise. The microphone arm will place the microphone in front of the corner of your mouth to minimize pop noise and protect the microphone from contamination. The supplied windscreen makes the microphone even less susceptible to wind and pop noise.

A special moisture shield on the microphone capsule makes it difficult for moisture and makeup to penetrate into the microphone. This barrier prevents the microphone sound entries from being clogged by sweat or makeup which would make the sound dull and reduce the sensitivity of the microphone. Therefore, never remove the moisture shield from the microphone.

The C 544 L is a condenser microphone and therefore needs a power supply.

I have only used this unit at practice but so far it looks like it will do the job. This unit had been my first choice but due to back order status, I went with a recommended alternate EV headset unit. Big mistake! The EV's monitor feed back, (in this case low end flutter) was so bad it almost ruined a paying gig as well as monitors. Their, (EV) head set design was very poor compared with this unit as well as being an Omni type. Definitely should have waited.
This, (Sports set) unit is the right idea as the headset seems sturdy and holds solid and the mic is Uni directional which makes the most sense for live music applications. The reciever I will admit, seems a little delicate in a super light all plastic housing compared to the EV's metal housing so care is recommended in placement. Sporting no antennae like the others, not sure of its usable range. In my situation, playing keys and guitar, I am using this to hopefully elliminate the need for a clumsy boom, which will allow me to look down at the keys while singing. Therefore super range is not an issue for me. The clarity in sound so far seems very good and walking around in a small practice room, I have not experienced any feed problems yet.
The only other negative comments are; it would have been nice to come with a case. I hate using the original boxes as cases. Also on the transmitter pack, I do prefer a push button mute and on/off switch rather than a slider but this is minor.

As a singing drummer I thought this might be a better solution than my over-the-top boom and gooseneck I've used for years which tends to pick up a lot of ambient drum sound... Unfortunately, early indications are that this is picking up as much and maybe more drums... But it's only been one show... We're experimenting with gates but there's a noticeable 'wash' of drums into the mix each time my voice triggers the gate...
There IS a Mute button but it's on a three-click slider that's also the Power button (Off / Mute / On) so each time I'd try to mute it I'd turn it off...
I'm leery of swinging the small book arm away from my mouth between songs not knowing exactly how durable it is...
On the plus side there's less to move and it's very light (all plastic)...
There are plenty of channel options to avoid interfering with other band members...
The head mount stayed in place throughout three full hour+ shows (and we don't hold anything back)... :)

Comments about AKG Perception Wireless Sports Set:

I bought this not expecting much at the price range it was at, but the quality of the sound blew me away. I am a very active DJ and this head set holds firm and never moves no matter how much I dance and jump around. So far not even a hint of static or any other unwanted noises from this unit. Very solid.

They overnighted it to me with and got it to me when they said they would. This wireless Micraphone works great! My bandmates are very honest about sound and they gave it two thumbs up! If you want great vocal quality that is basiclly plug and play, this is for you!
