Digital headset wireless from Shure.
Headset digital wireless microphone system fitted with a PG30 headset microphone. The GLXD14/PG30 system consists of the PG30, a GLXD1 digital transmitter and the GLXD4 receiver. The GLX series wireless is Shure's latest digital wireless technology, presented in an affordable package.
ThePG30 is an electret condenser microphone for headworn use with a wireless bodypack transmitter. Its mounting system is firm and stable, making it viable for even exercise instructors. It has sufficient "musicality" to be excellent in performance environments, and it is likewise superb for business presentations, sermons, and other spoken word applications.
The bodypack transmitter in the GLX line is built like a tank. A very small, very sophisticated tank. It features a tactile on and off switch, locking TQG connection for use with Shure lavalier, headset, earset, and instrument microphones and guitar cables, and a reversible belt clip. It comes with one SB902 lithium-ion battery.
GLXD4 Single Channel Receiver features a high-resolution LCD screen status, real-time battery run-time displayed in hours and minutes (accurate within 15 minutes), and a remote adjustable transmitter gain control. It also hasan Integrated battery charge port for proprietary Shure lithium-ion transmitter batteries, and a two-color charge indicator LED. Overall, I like this digital setup, but the mic is a bit challenging. I get a bit of high pitched whistle like feedback, even through my BOSE L1 Model II rig.
I thought it might be that the mic is just a cardioid, so I bought the Shure Beta 54 WBH54B mic since it is a supercardiod.
It was an improvement, but not worth the added cost for the Beta 54 mic. I still get a bit of the high pitched whistle sound, no matter what I do. I cant seem to EQ it out. Happens even with a dry signal, so it isn't an artifact in the signal chain that I have been able to find. Maybe it is in the unit, or some funky sound coming out of my right nostril...lol...so your mileage may vary.
The mic that comes with this unit is light and comfortable, just not well matched for my vocal. I can live with the little bit of feedback sound, but the overall tone is not what I was hoping for. In all honesty, I am very picky on my vocal tone. Someone else might love it and not have any issues at all.
I will keep it and use it because I love being unchained in a live situation. Like most gear, one has to find the limitations and then figure out a work-around. This piece is no different. I am still experimenting...
