This is my second review on this keyboard. I just purchased a new one to replace the old one. I wore the first ypg235 completely out, no fault of the keyboard. Just to clarify: I play in churches and when I do I take the best that I have which is a Korg Kronos or my Motif XF. The ypg235 I keep in a different location where I spend a lot of time working. When this keyboard began acting up after a long life I began looking to replace it. I could have had any board I wanted. I began thinking of how much I enjoyed my time playing this little thing and I honestly felt I couldn't live without it. What a great keyboard for a great price. Musicians Friend sent me an invite to review this board again so I took the time to pay back this little thing for all the pleasure it has given me. If you are an experienced musician and you just want something to goof around on, this is it. Five second startup time great onboard speakers, not every voice is perfect however you will find at least one great voice in every genre. Piano is fantastic. In conclusion, I highly recommend this to anyone. Don't let the price fool you, the ypg235 is a great keyboard.

Okay, so the "Graded Soft Touch" detail was rather ambiguous, to me anyway, so I had to check it out at my local music store.

THIS IS NOT A WEIGHTED KEYBOARD, which was what I was looking for (I ended up going with the Casio CDP-100...a little pricey and lacking a huge bank of sounds, but weighted action.) The GST means that you push faster, the sound is louder.

And it claims to have the best "grand piano" sound in the industry, but I wasn't really impressed.

So yeah, if you're looking for a SYNTHESIZER with a lot of great sounds and the over-hyped velocity sensitive keys, this is for you. But if you're looking for an entry-level digital piano with weighted action, I suggest not getting this.

Comments about Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano:

Just wish it had midi in and out. I have a midi recorder that records to a floppy disk and can play what is recorded, and change to any key to help people fit the voice.

Comments about Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano:

I haven't gotten to play it too much, but I absolutely love the look, the sounds, the overall quality. I am experienced, but this is my first personal keyboard, so I am not too picky about anything, really. I just wanted a higher end keyboard for my hobby.

Comments about Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano:

I love the feel of the keyboard. It doesn't feel like a portable piano. I originally wanted a simple keyboard with no bells and whistles. However, I'm excited to have the bells and whistles! They're easy to use and great to have on hand at the push of a button.
I do think it's weird that you have to purchase a separate product (the survival kit) to have the pedal and power chord. They should be part of the piano. Obviously, they are very essential to its use.

Comments about Yamaha YPG-235 76-Key Portable Grand Piano:

I like this keyboard. It has great sound and is light and easy to use. It will record limited tracks and has the ability to store 2 presets of sound.

The con for me is that is will only work with Midi using a computer interface. You CAN NOT get it to work unless you use a computer. I love the sounds on it but I use midi on stage and was hoping to get this hooked up. I even bought another piece of equipment to attempt that however because it seems that since Yamaha is not Midi Class Compliant for this instrument so I was not able to accomplish that.

It only has USB midi connections with NO STANDARD MIDI PORTS ON THIS KEYBOARD. Beware if you plan on using this for midi without using a computer.

Other than that it's a great little keyboard.

I bought this as a ninth-birthday gift for my granddaughter. She knows notes but absolutely nothing else. In the week she's had it, she's abandoned social media (well, almost) in favor of sitting at the keyboard trying to teach herself to use it. It doesn't get any better than this!
