If you are looking for the Dimebag, Nuno, or Chuck Schuldiner tone then look no further. They all used these and they are smoking hot! Fair warning in that they call for a steady hand to keep under control due to the high gain, so a noise gate may be a wise investment, but overall the clarity, depth, and agressive nature of the tone is to die for!

Leads are very bright, bite, shrill... Power chords are clear, but with a twang! No balls, At first I thought they were factory wired in parallel, they were not, they were in series. They are definitely NOT high output. To get any saturated gain, I had to use an over drive/boost to get any sustain. My preference is more of a rounded top end with a little cry,or awww type sound when used with full blown distortion. This pup is also "thin" sounding. Could the magnets be defective? Doubt it and DC resistance from what I remember was either 14, or 16K ohms. Its ok if you like a shrill bite. A Duncan Custom SH-5 is more to my taste. This was used thru a marshall MP1, Boosted and tested with a Dyno Drive and a tech 21 plexi. Power amps were thru clean channel Crate tube heads. Vintage 30's for speakers. EQ's and outboard gear bypassed. This same set-up using GFS Dream 180's is amazing even though they are not high output pups. The power chords ROAR, have tons of sustain and are smooth as glass!Zero Mud, Zero twang.

Comments about Bill Lawrence L500XL Hot Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I have been reading just how smokin hot this is. Well, the pups that this replaced must have been horrible. Very "brash" sounding with distortion. I did everything but stand on my head to get some roar outta this, but to no avail. I immediately removed it. very neutral on a clean channel. Others have stated the same as I have. Did some of us get pups with weak magnets? That will cause them to sound dead.Im Sorry Bill Lawrence, but my pup is pooped! I cannot in good conscience recommend this as a metal pup. It simply is not. Now, that being said, To all you metal heads out there, you will get a better result if you get more of a PUP with the character of a PAF. Just gently use an over drive before your distortion channel. Thats what I do, and I replaced my EMG's wired at 18 volts with GFS Fat Pats. Fat pats are not powerful, but with distortion they are better than Duncan Distortion or Duncan Custom. Yes, I tried them too!I picked up my over drives at Musicians friend. I will be getting another over drive from them shortly (they each sound a little different)MF has the best prices on Over drives. Check them out on youtube. Good Luck

Excellent hot pickup. I play hard roçk and was looking for pickup to meet my needs. I was looking at other more expensive pickups but after research reading several good reviews, so I went for it. This pickup delivers. I installed it backwards so hotter rail is
Inside. I'm very happy with this pickup, it really cuts through and has a pronounced sound.

Put this thing in my Hamer Korena Standard. Way exceeded my expectations. I'm a blues player by nature but love me some metal from time to time. Dont buy this for metal. Buy it for everything. Sustain? CHECK. Tone? CHECK. Clarity? CHECK. Don't get other pick-ups with Dime's name on it. Get this one.

After trying 2 different BKP bridge pickups for my PRS Tremonti SE, I decided to try this one since I am a fan of Dimebag's tone. I am blown away. Punchy, clear mids, & smooth singing highs. Not harsh sounding at all. If your like the chugga chugga style, you should try this pup.

This pickup is amazing! I play everything from Hard Rock to Reggae to Country and it sounds great for it all. It's the most versatile sounding humbucker I've ever had. Here's the bottom line: it's just a great sounding pickup that has the full range sound..not muddy like a PAF style humbucker. It has great highs lows and mids. Also, the split and parallel wirings sound cool too!

Get this pickup and throw away all the others! You won't be disappointed!

This pickup has it all, Great Tone, Clarity, and Output. It's rare that you have all 3 in one pickup, you usually have to compromise, but not with the L500XL!
Built Solid. Very Cool looking pickup!
I can't believe the price with all that you get for it!

Comments about Bill Lawrence L500XL Hot Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I have one of these in the bridge position with the L500R in the neck. The are wired up with coil splits and a phase switch. The only good tone I can get out of the XL is with the selector in the middle position with the phase switch active. Nice clear sound like this but otherwise very dull and muddy. No clarity or chunk. The other XL I have was wired up in the bridge of a 80's LP copy again with the L500R in the neck. No splits or phase on this one. Same result. Very dull and muddy, no harmonics. But the L500R however is great in both positions. Great response range, great harmonics and really nice sustain and distortion.
I have had two of these in different guitars wired differently in each with the same dull result. I find the tone very muddy with little to no harmonic response.
Just like the L500R the build quality seems solid.
Not a bad price but better off staying away from the XL and go with the L500R.
