OVERVIEW

This special set featuring a 57 and a 66, comes in EMG's exclusive brushed steel cap giving them a sleek modern look that will compliment any instrument. The 57 is a true original, a bridge pickup designed for today's player regardless of style or genre. The unique combination of Alnico V magnets and steel pole pieces evoke an unmistakably PAF-like quality in its tone.

The active attributes provide the headroom and punch necessary to deliver unparalleled definition and presence. It is designed and voiced specifically for the bridge position. Complementing the 57 is the 66, a result of pickup design innovation inspired by the specific needs and requests of today's players. Alnico V magnets provide the warm, smooth mid-range and expansive lows while the ceramic pole pieces bring out the clarity in the upper register. It is designed and voiced as a neck pickup.

Comments about EMG 57/66 Set:

These are my first set of actives and I got the black brushed chrome set to replace the Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentient set that came stock in my Blackjack Avenger. The Duncans were good pickups but they lacked clarity and the palm mutes were not very good. The 57/66 fixed those issues for sure! Much more clarity and punch. Harmonics jump right off the guitar, and the pickups track every note flawlessly. The only downside is the battery, but small price to pay to actually be able to hear what I am playing. If I could describe the sound, it would be like an EMG 81 x Gibson PAF x Duncan JB. These babies handle it all and are brutal for metal. They are pricey at two hundred and thirty nine, but I got mine brand new for two hundred so no complaints about price from me. They were also a breeze to install. No soldering required. Just plug them in, put your strings on, and you're ready for mayhem.

Comments about EMG 57/66 Set:

We just bought a Schecter with the EMG 57/61 pickups in it. It's impossible to EQ them to sound any way but annoyingly nasal. Way too much uppers mids that make you want to rip them out and burn them. The only thing they are good for is palm muting, chunking rhythm, Horrible clean tone. I hate these pickups!! I'm ripping them out and replacing them with Seymour Duncan passive humbuckers.

I've been to 100s of concerts to see pro bands in my lifetime, and I've yet to see a pro player using active pickups in a guitar. I wonder why? Actually - I know why - Active pickups are so hot they have a compressed tone that's lacking in dynamics. They are so bright that no amp in the world has enough tone control to mellow them out to something usable. They are great for amateurs because the compression helps cover up their lack of pick control.

Do yourself a favor - buy a good passive humbucker from Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, or Gibson

      Comments about EMG 57/66 Set:

I own the Zack Wyld 85/89, 81/89tw, Het Set, 81/85 passive.
all around I like the 57/66 the most. The Het Set is something of beauty but I feel the 57/66 set isn't as compressed so it leans more towards a passive sound yet retains the EMG sound.
What really gets me is the single notes in distortion, they really stick out and these things are very good clean. If you want something right smack in the middle of a passive and an active you won't be disappointed with the 57/66.

I've owned a lot of emgs. These reminded me of the Het Set but no quite as tight and brighter, the clarity on them is great, all around good sound. This is my favorite pickups.

          Comments about EMG 57/66 Set:

I have never tried an active pickup before installing the EMG 57/66 set. But I wanted to upgrade the pickups in my Gibson LPJ. Decided it was time to try these after reading a few good reviews. So, I recorded a couple of sample tracks with the stock 498s and then re-recorded the tracks after installing the EMGs. And wow, it was like I recorded in high-def after switching to the EMGs and the tone was unbelievable. It took me an hour to remove the 498s and install the EMGs; and the brushed black chrome look great on my vintage rubbed LPJ. If you are on the fence about active pickups - these have a warm tone that I love. Give them a shot.
