Ibanez RGA guitars are arch-top variations on the iconic RG line, long one of Ibanez’s best sellers, and an essential element of virtually every metal and shred guitarist’s arsenal for over twenty years. The RG line had its origins in the early 80’s with the Roadster models, Strat-style guitars that were intended to be workhorse axes that could hold their own in the studio or on the road. As the 80’s progressed and heavy metal gained popularity, the name was changed to Roadstar, and the guitars were designed to appeal to the new breed of aggressive shredders, both visually and sonically, with sharper points on the horns; faster, sleeker necks; updated locking tremolo systems for wild whammy bar action; and hot, screaming pickups. That tradition continues with the RG (Roadstar Guitar) line, with slab-style bodies, and the RGA arched top models, in 6-, 7- and 8-string versions. The arched top not only looks classy, but allows a bit more freedom of movement, so you can whip your picking hand around without worrying too much about bashing it into the guitar body. All models feature lightning-fast 24-fret necks and aggressive, no-holds-barred humbucking pickups, and, of course, that gorgeous carved top, built with legendary Ibanez attention to quality, tone and playability. The six-string RGA42FM features a mahogany body and flamed maple top, with active EQ circuit and fixed bridge, for maximum sustain and tuning stability. The GRTA42TQA boasts a gorgeous quilted maple art grain top on a basswood body, loaded with dual EMG humbuckers, and an Edge III double-locking tremolo bridge, for out-of-this-world divebomb pyrotechnics. The RGA42E is a sleek, no-nonsense metal monster, with mahogany body, EMG 81 and 85 humbuckers, and a Gibraltar Standard bridge. The seven-string RGA7 has a bound mahogany body and Wizard II-7 neck with 24 jumbo frets, and a pair of LZ7 humbucking pickups designed to deliver maximum articulation and power, from the lowest lows to screaming, soaring highs. The RGA72QME sports a mahogany body with eye-catching quilted maple top, 3-piece maple neck with Wizard III profile, and a pair of active EMG humbuckers, while the RGA7QM, also featuring a quilted maple top, has a 5-piece maple/walnut Wizard II-7 neck with bound rosewood fretboard, Gibraltar Standard string-through-body bridge, and a pair of smoking LZ7 humbuckers. For eight-string slingers, Ibanez offers the incomparable RGA8, with carved mahogany body and 5-piece maple/walnut Wizard II-8 neck, with a long, 27” scale length, for low-down, deep and nasty tones. The active EQ circuit and LZ8 active humbuckers with ceramic magnets are specially designed to wring every iota of sound from all eight strings, from nicely balanced clean tones to fat, ferocious high-output crunch. The FX Edge III-8 double-locking fixed bridge provides maximum resonance, sustain and tuning stability for those low-down sounds. The RG line of guitars has become one of the most popular on the market, favored by shredders like Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci and Steve Vai, but they’re great for just about any genre and playing style, with killer looks, powerful pickups and a long history of Ibanez excellence to back them up.
