OVERVIEW

With its decidedly modern double-cutaway, the Talman TCY10 is clearly no old-school acoustic-electric. Electric guitarists take to the Talman like ducks to water thanks to its fast neck and unhampered fretboard access. The bridge pickup and electronics accurately capture the well-rounded acoustic sound of the spruce top with mahogany body.

A stylish acoustic-electric guitar with great tone.

Wonderfull instrument for the younger guitar enthusiast!
This guitar definately fits a niche market. IT IS indeed Spruce top and Mahogany neck, back and sides. It is scupted X-Braced and does not feedback easily when used electrically with the Piezo undersaddle pickup.

I've had a chance to look at one very closely as it came into the shop with a broken neck/headstock caused by a careless stage placement and a fall resulting. It's neck is as thin as we dare carve one, that's for sure, but it makes for easy small hand playing.

This guitar has a good natural tone acoustically and a fair electric tone. Electronics are very reliable.
I'd have to say that this instrument is targeted perfectly for younger players wanting the option to play through amplifcation. It is a 3/4 sized guitar all the way around.

Dad, if you're looking to introduce junior to the world of acoustic/electric on a budget and need to be sure it's reliable for years of hard 'kid' use, then this is it. You cannot go wrong for this kind of money! A quality made, solid little instrument.

Greg @ Greg Guitars LLC, Southport, NC

NOTE: I had to laugh out loud at the guy who bought one, wasn't happy with the tuner of all things, took it back, and walks out with a high end Martin instead! What are you thinking! Classic!
Well put together from quality materials.
Overall if you buy this for the right reason it is a very good value!

Just average-for about $75 more I also got a Yamaha that sounds much better plugged & unplugged. Finish (Black), Fit, and Action were good. Unplugged the guitar lacks a good resonant sound most likely due to the thinline construction. You can compensate for that plugged in provided you have a multi-band equalizer in your equipment. Onboard tuner is OK. I would recommend this as a back-up guitar to take to places you would not want to bring a good quality guitar to like extreme temprature events, high humidity, etc. But, I can not reccommend this as a main guitar.

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCY10 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got this as a B-stock SDOTD. It has a few minor flaws which contribute to it's b-stock status: a couple spots where the binding wasn't scraped well, a small scratch by the jack, etc... But at the price of one Benjamin those were fine compromises. Acoustically it sounds nice and it plays great. I am a fan of the original MIJ Talman guitars (owned five over the years and still have two), even had the artcore version for a while, and recently got the Talman active bass, but this is my first Talman electro-acoustic. The built-in tuner works great and very playable out of the box. Fun slim guitar to play around the house and the blue finish looks sharp. Ibanez makes some great budget guitars.

Bought the talman tcy-10 because it's small and easy to travel with. Plays as expected for a small price. Did not know that restock also means it could be a second from mfg. which in my case it was. It looks and plays like it new. I also own 2 gibsons, gretch,American fender strat. and several epiphones including BB King lucill .

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCY10 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

this was a factory restock SDOTD priced for just under 100 clams. i wanted something in a thinline acoustic that i could use as a boat paddle if need be. this fit the bill perfectly. straight out the box the talman strings are too heavy for my liking, the action is very high measured at the nut, above the 1st fret, 12th fret, and at the 15th fret with capo on the first fret. low E 9/64, A 10/64, D 10/64, G 9/64, B 8/64, E 7/64ths, respectively. the relief measured at 7th fret with capo at 1st fret and fretted at the 20th is .019, from other reviews that's about what i expected. so all that being said, surprisingly it stays in tune, the intonation was spot on, and the tuner was pitch perfect. the fret wire is very thin and fret ends sharp on the bound neck. the tuners work fine. unplugged this guitar sounds like a cardboard box, plugged in, it sounds like a loud cardboard box. the two band eq and vol work fine but adding low end deepens the box and high end thins the box. the talman guitar is full of ringing overtones both plugged and unplugged and not overtones in a good way. i pretty much expceted all this and the cardboard box sound is what i wanted anyway..go figure lol!! after i recut the nut, sand down the bridge, and fix the relief it will be the perfect cardboard box for me (did i mention the guitar ships with an extra bridge saddle? at least mine did)

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCY10 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as a Stupid Deal of the Day, so the price was just too good to pass up. It is actually a factory second (the letter S is stamped on the back of the headstock) though it was not identified as a second in the ad. For the money, it a good buy and about what I expected. Since the body is small and thin the acoustic sound is a bit weak, but when plugged in it sounds surprisingly good. I bought this guitar because of it's size... just right for playing while sitting in my recliner (can't do that with a dreadnought). I would not recommend this as a serious instrument, but as a knock around or beginner guitar it is perfect..

I just got this today and have to say I am pretty impressed. Nice construction, looks beautiful, but it does need an amp to bring out the tone. As an alone guitar it will not suffice. Buy a nice clean amp for this baby and you cannot go wrong. Intonation out of the box is perfect, no need for a set-up. Get it. I did and I am glad. PS Don't get heavy gauge strings unless you're detuning. I think extra lights are good for this guitar.

Comments about Ibanez Talman TCY10 Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

As with most Ibanez guitars -- and I'm a fan -- this little guitar does what it's designed to do: plugged in, it has a musical acoustic/electric voice without any piezo quack. I've been playing it through the clean channel of a Marshall DSL15H plugged into an Eminence CV-75 (great speaker) mounted in an open-backed Seismic Audio cab. Also, with its size, shape and overall design, this Talman is easy to play standing up with a strap.

The reality check: mine is an Ibanez "second stock" unit that was a steal-deal SDOTD bargain. For that reason, the minor glitches in fit and finish are acceptable. My only serious complaint: as delivered, the frets were not just stained but also scored and scratched to the point that strings would chatter while bending or using wide vibrato. After breaking out some light-adhesive masking tape, abrasive "fret erasers" and a graduated set of polishing pads, I was able to make the guitar (enjoyably) playable -- without resorting to a full level, crown and polish... but I may yet give it a full re-fret to maximize its playability.

One more note: the light adhesive of blue painter's tape lifted away the brown stain used to colorize the fingerboard. Fortunately, a light application of lemon oil helped even out the color.
