Ibanez Tosin Abasi Electric Guitars
A little humility and perseverance can go a long way, and Tosin Abasi is the perfect example of a musician who takes that to heart. The first time he was offered a solo record deal, while playing for Reflux, he actually turned it down because he wasn't sure his skills were up to the challenge. But he didn't forget about it - he enrolled at the Atlanta Institute of Music, and after graduating, called Prosthetic Records back to take them up on their offer. The result was the creation of Animals as Leaders, which Tosin started with an Ibanez RG2228: the guitar he played until, at NAMM 2013, Ibanez revealed the signature models you'll find in this lineup of Ibanez Tosin Abasi electric guitars.
So as it turns out, hard work does pay off! And although an 8-string guitar is challenging to master, once you do - like Tosin himself did - the musical possibilities are just about endless. Of course, not all 8-string axes are created equal, and the Ibanez TAM100 Tosin Abasi Signature 8-string Electric Guitar is really an outstanding design thanks to the many tweaks Tosin asked for. There's the wenge/bubinga neck for instance, that gives the guitar its unique timbre and has a thinner shape than the stock RG2228. He also added extra contouring to the lower cutaway for better fret access, and a collection of vintage-inspired aesthetic details that offset the modern nature of an 8-string guitar.
Maybe the best part of the TAM100 is its pickup configuration. It comes loaded with direct-mounted HSH DiMarzio Ionizer8 pickups, and they're paired with an incredibly versatile pickup selection system that not only allows you to activate different combinations of pickups, but also enables splitting of each humbucker to deliver total control over your tone. Granted, if you've listened to Animals as Leaders, then you'll probably agree that's a must-have for Ibanez Tosin Abasi electric guitars to handle the incredible techniques and sounds Tosin pulls off every time he picks one up and plays.
