OVERVIEW

The WMS 40 Mini instrumental systems features AKG's unique HDAP (High Definition Audio Performance) technology ensures the best possible, most realistic sound at any time. The system includes an SR 40 MINI receiver, a PT 40 MINI pocket transmitter, a MKG L instrument cable, a universal power supply with US/UK/EU adapter, and one AA size dry battery.

The SR 40 Mini receiver provides three status LEDs indicating ON/OFF status, received signal strength (RF OK), and audio clipping (AF CLIP). The VOLUME control sets the level at the ¼" output jack. The supplied switched mode power supply operates on any AC voltage from 110 to 240 VAC and includes EU, UK, and US adapters.

The PT 40 Mini bodypack is probably the smallest and lightest transmitter in its class. A reliable mini XLR output allows you to connect every compatible AKG miniature microphone. A single AA size battery will do to power both the transmitter and a condenser microphone connected to it. Battery life of the transmitter is the same legendary "30 hours off a single AA battery" as for the WMS 40 models, reducing the need to replace batteries and thus saving real money in the long run.

Brilliant sound and ease-of-use at an unbeatable price/performance ratio.

I really try to take care of my cables, but lately I've been spending a fortune replacing them. I've thought about going to a wireless system, but I didn't want to settle for some cheap, crappy Nady, and I didn't want to spend a lot for a good one. I'm just a gigging bar musician, not a rock star. But when I saw that the WMS 40 Mini was manufactured by AKG, I took notice. I've owned many AKG products over the years and I figured they wouldn't put their name on something that was below their standards. I was right. This thing is fantastic! I can't believe you can get a UHF system at this price. I'm very picky about my sound, and you do have to spend a little time adjusting the input sensitivity and the output volume to get it just right, but then it's set and it sounds great. The transmitter clips onto my back pocket and the receiver sits on top of my Marshall half stack. I do run a cable from the receiver out to my Boss ME-50 multi-effects unit and a cable back to my amp, but I'm not tethered anymore. It's nice to be able to walk around the stage. Great sound, no dropouts, and a nice price. Get one before they realize their error and raise the price.

I am just not quite sure... I installed the unit on my pedal board, in my Studio, and started trying out the unit... Spent 25 or 30 minutes getting all of the "adjustments" set and NEVER got the unit to not exhibit some static and "scratchy pops"... Put my Nady 442 Gold back on the board and the sound was crystal clear... Put the AKG back on the pedal board and moved 5 to 8 foot away and things "cleared up"... It seemed that the AKG "added" highs - the sound was brittle and strident... I WILL KNOW MORE this weekend - I plan on using the AKG at a GIG, but I WILL have my Nady there as a back-up - just in case... I would NOT recommend this unit YET... Its a shame when 10 year old technology outperforms a current device...

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I use this live in a metal band, I'm a spazz when I perform and I get in the mosh pit when I play. It can be abused pretty good, it is plastic though so it's a matter of time before it breaks. It doesn't color the tone at all, but the key is to set the gain so it doesn't clip. For the price it's great, it works good and you can go pretty far away from it before it loses signal.

What can I say? The thing works pretty good. Slight faint hiss may be present when idle. I tested it by going two rooms away down a hallway and was surprise that it still sent a received signal..

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I use this with Rocksmith, as the program has its own tone perhaps sound quality is not an issue. I don't need a high end unit. I have played around 150 hours and am delighted with it. I think that the body unit is not as durable as it could be and I am always very careful when handling it. I am worried that the cable will get snagged and I'll break it so have looked for replacement cables but so far have been unable to locate one, so that's my biggest problem with the device

Bought this system about 3 months ago. It worked fine for about 11 gigs. I was pretty satisfied, good sound quality, then it just went out. Stopped working, no sound. I thought it may be the batteries, but it wasn't. Don't know if it was the transmitter or the receiver. Luckily I bought a replacement warranty. I wouldn't recommend it if you played a lot. occasional gigs now and then maybe ok.

I work 4-5 nights a week. One nighters usually. I bought this while my G50 was being serviced. Battery consumption is fabulous. You get a lot of mileage out of one AA. And it sounds pretty good for this price range. Around the house it worked really well and had a decent range with no problems. Gigging was another story. I was able to use it at about half the venues. It's only one channel and interference rendered it unusable at a lot of places. It sounds like a loud radio that's not on a station. For wandering around the house unfettered, it's fine.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

Like many guitar players, cords are a nuisance and can be distracting on stage. Twice I almost pulled my amp off the speaker cab due to tripping on the cord, so I thought it was time to go wireless. I play Bass, but the guitar player in our band has tried quite a few wireless systems and settled on a $400+ Shure system and was quite satisfied with it. Not wanting to spend that much I went for this AKG wireless due to mostly positive reviews. I've had this unit for a couple of months and have maybe 10 gigs on it so far. When I first received this unit, I plugged it in and did a sound comparison through headphones swapping between the wireless and cord... I could not detect any difference. I then tried the wireless walking around my house and on occasion heard a slight pop and scratchy sound, almost like a weak connection. After fiddling with the mini XLR connector on the transmitter I noticed the spring strain relief on the cord was microphonic. Tapping it produced the popping sound and rubbing it gave the scratchy sound. Now I already had planned on obtaining an extra cord that goes from guitar to transmitter as a back-up, so I soldered a new one up, taped the cord with a loop at the transmitter and that has eliminated the problem so far. Range is good, up to 100ft., but I found after 40 ft. or so the delay was difficult to keep time. I would have given 5 stars, but due to the cord issue I'm giving it 4.
