OVERVIEW

Brilliant sound and ease-of-use at an unbeatable price/performance ratio.

The WMS 40 Mini instrumental systems features AKG’s unique HDAP (High Definition Audio Performance) technology ensures the best possible, most realistic sound at any time. The system includes an SR 40 MINI receiver, a PT 40 MINI pocket transmitter, a MKG L instrument cable, a universal power supply with US/UK/EU adapter, and one AA size dry battery.

The SR 40 Mini receiver provides three status LEDs indicating ON/OFF status, received signal strength (RF OK), and audio clipping (AF CLIP). The VOLUME control sets the level at the ¼" output jack. The supplied switched mode power supply operates on any AC voltage from 110 to 240 VAC and includes EU, UK, and US adapters.

The PT 40 Mini bodypack is probably the smallest and lightest transmitter in its class. A reliable mini XLR output allows you to connect every compatible AKG miniature microphone. A single AA size battery will do to power both the transmitter and a condenser microphone connected to it. Battery life of the transmitter is the same legendary "30 hours off a single AA battery" as for the WMS 40 models, reducing the need to replace batteries and thus saving real money in the long run.

FEATURES
  • Wireless instrument system
  • Dynamic mic with cardioid polar pattern
  • Up to 30 hour playtime with one single AA battery
  • Plug and play
  • Gain control on pocket transmitter
  • Compatible with all AKG MicroMics
  • Low battery indicator
  • Smallest and lightest bodypack transmitter in its class

I really try to take care of my cables, but lately I've been spending a fortune replacing them. I've thought about going to a wireless system, but I didn't want to settle for some cheap, crappy Nady, and I didn't want to spend a lot for a good one. I'm just a gigging bar musician, not a rock star. But when I saw that the WMS 40 Mini was manufactured by AKG, I took notice. I've owned many AKG products over the years and I figured they wouldn't put their name on something that was below their standards. I was right. This thing is fantastic! I can't believe you can get a UHF system at this price. I'm very picky about my sound, and you do have to spend a little time adjusting the input sensitivity and the output volume to get it just right, but then it's set and it sounds great. The transmitter clips onto my back pocket and the receiver sits on top of my Marshall half stack. I do run a cable from the receiver out to my Boss ME-50 multi-effects unit and a cable back to my amp, but I'm not tethered anymore. It's nice to be able to walk around the stage. Great sound, no dropouts, and a nice price. Get one before they realize their error and raise the price.

I am just not quite sure... I installed the unit on my pedal board, in my Studio, and started trying out the unit... Spent 25 or 30 minutes getting all of the "adjustments" set and NEVER got the unit to not exhibit some static and "scratchy pops"... Put my Nady 442 Gold back on the board and the sound was crystal clear... Put the AKG back on the pedal board and moved 5 to 8 foot away and things "cleared up"... It seemed that the AKG "added" highs - the sound was brittle and strident... I WILL KNOW MORE this weekend - I plan on using the AKG at a GIG, but I WILL have my Nady there as a back-up - just in case... I would NOT recommend this unit YET... Its a shame when 10 year old technology outperforms a current device...

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I was trying to save a little money to get a little extra range and less cable mess by buying this unit but it is made of cheap plastic, rinky dink cable that goes to the guitar and even 7ft away it cuts out, makes lots of static noises when you turn and hisses.

I'm a pro, I know how to set things up and I know good equipment. This is not good equipment and AKG, a great brand that I've trusted for many many years, should not have their name on this unit!

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I play about 50 weekends a year, and thought I'd give this one a try - not because I run all over the place, but I usually am assigned the task of getting a proper mix out front.

Anyway, I can only use this thing in about half the places I play. It hisses & pops in a lot of places - which just doesn't work. Range is pretty decent when it does work, and as another plus - it doesn't affect my sound really at all, which is a big plus over other wireless units I've used in the past.

Still - if you DO run all over the place and a wireless is mandatory, you'd better spend more cash. Just sayin'...

I had used a wireless in the past and lost it when some of the frequencies were taken away----I have been using high quality chords since---but I wanted the freedom of a wireless. I bought this one because of the low price and after using it--I wished I had bought it long ago. I now have 2 of them with 2 different channels, I couldn't be happier.

So far so good. Tired of tripping over cables. This thing frees me up from that. Takes up little space I can walk down the ailes with it and have no signal drop. I can hear no tonal difference from cables.

I picked this up, due to a combination of good reviews, Brand Loyalty, and Low price....

WOW! could the reviews have been more wrong?

While i've hesitated to besmirch the name of one of my favorite companies, i cannot find anything good to say about this unit.

It constantly makes popping noises as you walk around, and when you turn, there is loud static, if the transmitter passes within a certain proximity of the reciever...

I exchanged the first one hoping it was just a defect... same issue.

I also took it to 3 other locations to rule out errant magnetic fields and interference...

As much as i wanted to love this, take my advice and keep on looking.

This is one of the easiest pieces of equipment to use that I have ever seen. Everything was included except for the 1/4 inch cable between the receiver and the Amplifier which I did not expect. Just plug it in and turn it on. Couldn't be easier. Clear as a bell.

This product by far for the price range is the best I've used it doesn't take a bit of tone out of your amp settings no hum's like I read in some of the reviews, a lack of knowing how to set it up right might have been a problem with the ones having trouble with the hums one thing the power pack that goes to your guitar input the hook on it is something that for me needs work it comes unhooked from the pack very easy when you are ready to go on stage you don't want worry about it coming loose in the middle of song but other than that I love it

It's great for the price. If you are a guitarist that doesn't jump around and stays pretty calm it will work perfect for you. I'm a jump and kick and flip out on stage guitarist. At practice I have no problems with it. If I'm wailing the unit will crack and loose signal. I think it is from the antenna rubbing and bouncing. Super small and lite wait. Very subtle tone change as opposed to cable. This can be adjusted at your amp. Overall satisfied, super low price.
