Brilliant sound and ease-of-use at an unbeatable price/performance ratio.

The WMS 40 Mini instrumental systems features AKG’s unique HDAP (High Definition Audio Performance) technology ensures the best possible, most realistic sound at any time. The system includes an SR 40 MINI receiver, a PT 40 MINI pocket transmitter, a MKG L instrument cable, a universal power supply with US/UK/EU adapter, and one AA size dry battery.

The SR 40 Mini receiver provides three status LEDs indicating ON/OFF status, received signal strength (RF OK), and audio clipping (AF CLIP). The VOLUME control sets the level at the ¼" output jack. The supplied switched mode power supply operates on any AC voltage from 110 to 240 VAC and includes EU, UK, and US adapters.

The PT 40 Mini bodypack is probably the smallest and lightest transmitter in its class. A reliable mini XLR output allows you to connect every compatible AKG miniature microphone. A single AA size battery will do to power both the transmitter and a condenser microphone connected to it. Battery life of the transmitter is the same legendary "30 hours off a single AA battery" as for the WMS 40 models, reducing the need to replace batteries and thus saving real money in the long run.

Features

  • Wireless microphone system
  • Dynamic mic with cardioid polar pattern
  • Up to 30 hour playtime with one single AA battery
  • Plug & Play
  • Gain control on pocket transmitter
  • Compatible with all AKG MicroMics
  • Low battery indicator
  • Smallest and lightest bodypack transmitter in its class

I really try to take care of my cables, but lately I've been spending a fortune replacing them. I've thought about going to a wireless system, but I didn't want to settle for some cheap, crappy Nady, and I didn't want to spend a lot for a good one. I'm just a gigging bar musician, not a rock star. But when I saw that the WMS 40 Mini was manufactured by AKG, I took notice. I've owned many AKG products over the years and I figured they wouldn't put their name on something that was below their standards. I was right. This thing is fantastic! I can't believe you can get a UHF system at this price. I'm very picky about my sound, and you do have to spend a little time adjusting the input sensitivity and the output volume to get it just right, but then it's set and it sounds great. The transmitter clips onto my back pocket and the receiver sits on top of my Marshall half stack. I do run a cable from the receiver out to my Boss ME-50 multi-effects unit and a cable back to my amp, but I'm not tethered anymore. It's nice to be able to walk around the stage. Great sound, no dropouts, and a nice price. Get one before they realize their error and raise the price.

I am just not quite sure... I installed the unit on my pedal board, in my Studio, and started trying out the unit... Spent 25 or 30 minutes getting all of the "adjustments" set and NEVER got the unit to not exhibit some static and "scratchy pops"... Put my Nady 442 Gold back on the board and the sound was crystal clear... Put the AKG back on the pedal board and moved 5 to 8 foot away and things "cleared up"... It seemed that the AKG "added" highs - the sound was brittle and strident... I WILL KNOW MORE this weekend - I plan on using the AKG at a GIG, but I WILL have my Nady there as a back-up - just in case... I would NOT recommend this unit YET... Its a shame when 10 year old technology outperforms a current device...

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I can say that it works. And if you don't mind a LOT of noise, such as loud pops and static crackles, then you will enjoy the freedom it allows. It works at longer distances then you are likely to need gigging, but the noise makes it useless for performances.
The sound reproduction is pretty good though. I mean it sounds similar to a direct plug in sound quality. It's that N O I S E! After a while it gets on your nerves.

The set up instructions are in a language I do not understand. I tried to find instructions on AKG' s site, same manual that is in a language I cannot read. The set up looked simple do I set it up to my electric acoustic and got all kinds of popping and hissing. Will be sending it back.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

I tried this unit out for one night in my house. I experienced really loud random pops and scratching noises which made the unit unusable for me. Interestingly, the noises were present regardless of whether I was close or far from the base, whether I was in the same room or another, and with the remote unit on and off....so it didn't seem like an issue with proximity or interference. Others have experienced similar noises so my advice would be to consider another unit. I returned it and bought the audio-technica system 10 ATW-1101/G which has worked flawlessly in the same environment.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini Instrument Wireless System:

This wireless instrument system is definitely an incredible value. It definitely beats comparable systems that cost a lot more.

It's pretty much plug and play, and out of the box I was able to get all the hardware set up in five minutes, and another five to tweak settings.
I plug the receiver into my pedalboard and run the volume full on the receiver, and adjust the transmitter's AF level until there's no AF clipping even when I play as hard as possible.

My tone is exactly the same as when I'm using an instrument cable, but that's probably because I'm using the same instrument cable to connect the receiver to my pedalboard. I was happy with my tone, but I wanted freedom to move. I haven't experienced any interference while using this at church(with lots of wireless mics), in the studio, and while walking through various parts of my home for fun.

The receiver is in a nice metal housing and seems very solid. The transmitter is made of plastic but it feels like a high quality plastic,is nice and light, and is equipped with nice belt clip. I will soon be investing in a holder for it to attach to my strap, A little extra care will definitely keep things working.

I personally like the look of both the receiver and transmitter. Sleek and simple.

My only minor issue is that it only has one fixed frequency, and only three variations to choose from. I was well aware of this when I purchased it, and it's not a problem for me, but will definitely be a problem for people who want to use more than three of this system at once.

Overall, I think this is a great system for people who are just getting into the wireless field and don't wanna break the bank, as well as for experienced and professional players who may need something lighter for smaller venues.

Great system for the price. Clear, battery last a long time. Sometimes, I will get a very brief static sound, last a quick second. Very rare, but does happen. Could be interference from something else in the room. Other than that, no complaints.

I really hate to say it, but... I was really looking forward to receiving this and setting it up. As soon as I did, there were intermittent, loud popping sounds, and then an intermittent, loud hissing sound as I walked away from the receiver (in my house). I owned a Samson unit, and now own Sennheiser and Line6 units, and have never experienced something so unusable out-of-the-box. I adjusted the gain on Rcvr and Xmtr and any other adjustments I could find, tested the battery, etc -- but no joy. Had to send it back. I suppose I got a bum unit b/c no one could sell systems that fail like this.
