Small, lightweight instrument wireless.

The AKG WMS 40 Minisystem includes an SR 40 MINI receiver, a PT 40 MINI pocket transmitter, a MKG L instrument cable, a universal power supply with US/UK/EU adapter, and one AA size dry battery.

The SR 40 Mini receiver provides three status LEDs indicating ON/OFF status, received signal strength (RF OK), and audio clipping (AF CLIP). The VOLUME control sets the level at the ¼" output jack. The supplied switched mode power supply operates on any AC voltage from 110 to 240 VAC and includes EU, UK, and US adapters.

The PT 40 Mini bodypack is probably the smallest and lightest transmitter in its class. A reliable mini XLR output allows you to connect every compatible AKG miniature microphone. Battery life of the transmitter is 30 hours from a single AA battery, reducing the need to constantly replace batteries, saving some real money in the long run.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini2 Instrument Wireless Microphone Set:

Switching between 3 guitars means lots of tangled cords around my A/B box. But going wireless can be very expensive for someone who isn't a professional musician. Cue the WMS 40 mini.
I went this route because I am never more than 8 feet away from my effects (mainly due to cord length) but I needed something to allow me to not have to change cords when I changed guitars - or so I thought. The set-up for this is very much like an AB Box. Each transmitter is assigned to a channel on the receiver with it's own output. I still have the same issue as before but without a bundle of cords. My 2 main guitars go though the AB box from the receiver and my 3rd must be hand attached. I was hoping to manage all 3 into a single input line but no. Y-cables cannot be used. So far the sound has been fine. No issues with sound output from the guitars, however I am still tweaking the transmitters. (1 seems to be more sensitive that the other). I have not yet run into any external channel interference. I am glad I made this purchase. If you are a beginner/novice and want to include wireless in your set-up, this is a decent choice.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini2 Instrument Wireless Microphone Set:

I love that this unit offers two channels for the same price and with the same receiver size as other single-channel units. I also love that its transmitter supposedly has 4x the battery life of all the other products I researched. Unfortunately, this product does not work in my city because it uses UHF channel 45 and there's a local TV station on that channel. The result is that the unit outputs occasional brief blasts of electronic noise while the transmitter is on, and a constant blast of electronic noise when the transmitter is off.

Before purchasing, I recommend making sure this TV channel is not used in your city. This unit uses what AKG calls channels A and C, and the single WMS 40 units are available for A, B or C, but these are all slices of UHF channel 45 and I confirmed with AKG tech support that none of them are compatible with a local TV station on channel 45.

For the record, AKG was great about troubleshooting the problem and Musician's Friend was great about accepting my return.

Comments about AKG WMS 40 Mini2 Instrument Wireless Microphone Set:

I cannot think of one bad thing to say. I play in a blues band and have used this on a couple hundred gigs with complete satisfaction. I keep the receiver on my pedal board and the transmitter on my guitar strap. I play Strats and I walk around the clubs while playing. No dropouts. Unbelievable battery life to the point where I cannot even recall when I installed the battery. I use only top quality Evidence cables, even on my pedal board.

...and the tone? I cannot detect any significant difference between wireless and cables. I get huge tone through both my 1972 Deluxe Reverb and my 1969 Pro Reverb. Our blues band invites special local headliner guests to many of our gigs, mostly guitar players. They typically bring their own guitar and use my rig. They are reluctant to use my wireless until they try it. Their typical reaction is a combination of surprise and elation. They are amazed that excellent tone survives my wireless setup, and these guys are picky tone freaks. Compliments abound.

      All good IMHO !!
