Comments about Silver Creek LR-102 Lee Rocker Tuxedo Bass:

The bass is well-crafted and comes with a great setup. I talked to Barrie himself at Kolstein and discussed with him how each bass comes through their shop in New York. Surprisingly, as a Lee Rocker model it is set up with an action more suited to jazz than the low setup of rockabilly. It's a fairly heavy plywood. The paint job is, to say the least, pretty crude.. the black is smooth and polished but the white is patchy in some spots (especially around the F holes). I am going to go over it myself, but feel I shouldn't have to. The Heritage strings on it are a nice synthetic gut that bow very well and loud, and have a decent pizz tone. I will probably swap them out for Spirocores, though, being primarily a jazz player. The pickup came to me with a wiring issue. I spoke to Kolstein and they offered an immediate exchange, no questions asked. Again, not something I should have to deal with but easily resolved. The pickup is a noninvasive addition and is easy to remove or add as desired. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I like the tone and it is a very pretty instrument. I imagine there are better bargain basses out there, but I do like this one and play it every day with a smile on my face.
