Purchased it for my daughter and she absolutely loves it. It has all the basic features that you would expect from a good karaoke machine. I haven't explored all the features available yet but so far it's been a great device.

Comments about VocoPro DVG-888K-II Multi format Karaoke Player:

I bought htis because my girlfriend has always enjoyed singing karaoke but can no longer stand the smoke filled locations where one can perform. I though this would be great ot add on to the home theater system so she could perform at home. I found it fairly easy to install though wish it had
HDMI output. I do enjoy the fact the unit isn't like the "all-in-one" variety so I can purchase a real quality microphone and cable (or two for duets). Musician's friend has quality mics and cables priced right for use with this unit so anyone can sound like a pro. I do wish this model had the ability to record on SD card or similar so the recordings could be archived or posted on the net. Other than that it was a well received purchase that is regularly enjoyed.

            Fills a hard-to-find niche

            By Bruce Wahler

            from Ashby, MA

Comments about VocoPro DVG-888K-II Multi format Karaoke Player:

There seem to be only two types of CD/DVD decks: consumer ones that cost $50-100, but won't stand up to rack use, and 'pro' ones that cost hundreds of dollars, with features like pitch transpose that aren't necessary for background music. The DVG-888K II bridges that gap -- at least, through Musician's Friend.

Other than the rack ears problem, this is just about the perfect solution for background music on gigs.
I'm using it in a PA rack to provide between-set sound, and to allow clients to play a 'special song' for events. As such, I don't care about a lot of the video and remote features. What I care about are: 1) the buttons to directly call up a track, rather than hitting Previous and Next; 2) the backlit control panel (because it's usually pitch-black in clubs); and 3) the XLR outs. These are all things that cannot be found on most consumer-style CD players. The motorized faders for music and vocals are a nice touch, but probably won't get used in my application. It seems to have the whole Karaoke situation well thought out, which is expected of VocoPro.

It has a ton of RCA connections for hooking up a video monitor, or even a 5.1 system.

It's a 2U size, which is both a ding (takes more space) and a selling point (bigger/more controls). It comes with rack ears (more on that later).

The only thing that keeps it from being a 10 are the lack of a USB drive connector.
I haven't had it long enough to really burn through it paces, but it seems reasonably well built. Not built-like-a-tank like Roland or Ashly Audio, but I think it will hold up in a rack. The rack ears are a little thinner than I'd like to see, but the unit is pretty light. And it fits a standard 18.75" rack panel.

What's that you say? There's no such a thing as an 18.75" rack? That's right: when the rack ears are attached as designed, the spacing of the holes is about 1/4" or so short of all the rest of the 19" gear I have. Fortunately, there's an easy way to fix this. Go to a hardware store and get eight flat old-school rubber plumbing washers; They are roughly 1/8" thick. If you can't find them loose, try one of those 'plumbing repair kits.' There are different sizes, but all of them have the same inner hole, which fits; it doesn't matter if they're all the same. Put one of them under each rack ear hole between the case and the ear, add a little Loctite to the screw threads, and put the screws back in place. The screws are long enough to take up the slack of the washers. Your rack ears are now at the correct spacing, the CD player has the added bonus of better isolation from bumps, and the installation doesn't look like a**.
Lots of places sell this for over $250. At that price, I think it would be kind of overpriced for my needs (PA reinforcement). At Musician's Friend's price, though, there's nothing else that can touch it. I bought a similar box with half the features for the same price a couple of years ago, but it's almost unusable without its remote. Who wants to bring a remote to a gig? Just another thing to lose. This deck is much better for band use.

            DVG-888K-II

Comments about VocoPro DVG-888K-II Multi format Karaoke Player:

I have trusted VocoPro in the past and was very pleased with their product. However, I was disappointed with this one, DVG-888K-II karoake. If you were not changing keys it worked great. I really liked the features. Besides having the individual volume controls for the music and the microphones, it had the master volume controls as well.
I liked the features, and appearance was very nice of the VocoPro DVG-888-II karaoke. However when changing the key the music had an echo sound, the notes were doubled. It was especially noticeable on slow songs. I returned the karaoke.
I like the VocoPro DVG-888K-II karaoke product. But was disappointed in the sound when changing keys.
I feel it should have handled the key changes better.

Comments about VocoPro DVG-888K-II Multi format Karaoke Player:

The DVG-888k-11 player has many features for such a small housing package and can be portable for usage in the home as well on the road. It also has several terminals for different devices used for
connections to visual and audio speakers and screens. I appreciate it showing on the video what key
each song is recorded in so that I can adjust for guitar accompanement or vocals.
Local music stores do not carry short cords for connecting to amplefiers so I have to use bungy wrapped misrophone cords to tie into my Amp. I also cannot find a monitor portabe enough to use on
Road Gigs at a reasonable price. This mechine may be over-kill for my useage but hopefully will do

What a great Kareoke player, very easy to navigate, and for the cost you can't beat it.
Appears to be solid construction and a very well layed out remote, I have no complaints.
            Cannot beat the price, Great

            VOCOPRO DVG888KII REVIEW

            By FRANK DETZ

Comments about VocoPro DVG-888K-II Multi format Karaoke Player:

This unit does almost everything we could ask for and at a fantastic price. The only feature lacking is a display that will let you know what plus or minus the disc is being played at.
My partner and I love the Vocopro line and have not bought anything else in the past 6 years. And yes, all of the equipment is still working fine after being moved and used evey single weekend during that time.

            Dead on Arrival

Comments about VocoPro DVG-888K-II Multi format Karaoke Player:

I don't normally write reviews but since this is my second Vocopro product (the first was an all in one karaoke unit) that was defective, I feel obligated to let others know. I did ask for an exchange on this product because it may just be an anomoly since this one had fingerprints and residue on the top and face of the unit (maybe it was a return?). I will reevaluate the unit when I get the exchange.
The unit I received didn't power on.
            If it worked.
