Akai Professional

This USB MIDI Keyboard Controller is fully loaded for studio and stage.

The Akai Professional MPK61 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller combines a piano-style keybed with a bank of genuine Akai Professional MPC pads, assignable Q-Link controllers and key technologies from the iconic MPC family of music production workstations.

Producers, performers and DJs appreciate the MPK61's mix of 61 semi-weighted keys with aftertouch, 16 MPC pads with velocity and pressure sensitivity, 72 assignable Q-Link controllers, MPC Note Repeat, MPC Swing and an arpeggiator. The MPK61's size is ideal for performers who need a larger keyboard than the original 49-key MPK49 offers, but also prefer the lighter weight and associated portability of a semi-weighted keyboard. The MPK61 retains the key split features from the MPK88, enabling you to divide the keyboard into two zones for performing with two different programs at once.

The MPK61 MIDI controller empowers you to create and manipulate melodic, harmonic and rhythmic content and inspires creative production with its arpeggiator, MPC Swing and MPC Note Repeat technologies.

The Akai MPK61 controller is bundled with Ableton Live Lite Akai Edition software, one of the most popular and powerful performance and production programs. Ableton Live Lite composes, records, remixes, and helps you improvise and edit musical ideas seamlessly. The MPK61 sends MIDI data over USB for plug-and-play performance with both Mac and PC computers. The Akai MPK61 works with virtually all MIDI recording, sequencing, and performance software for musical performers from keyboard players to producers to DJs and VJs.

Great Controller

Comments about Akai Professional MPK61 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

I traded my Novation SL MkII for this and love this!
Great programmability. Exceeds what the average person would do with it.
I do miss the Automapping you get with Novation, but this is built better and has a better layout.
Nice and solid. I would recommend getting a soft case for carrying as the faders can bend slightly, but I am a bit of a caveman with gear.
This is the controller to get.

good overall keyboard

By Richard Wang

from New York

Comments about Akai Professional MPK61 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

Pros- built in mixer, and drum pads, great weighted keys, low price, very sturdyCons- NO BUILT IN SOUNDSOverall i think this keyboard is a great buy. the keys and the pads take a bit getting used to but after that they feel great.
this keyboard has many different features. it has a mixer and drum pads built it. you can add foot switches and pedals and it has midi ports. sadly it doesnt have any built in sounds so you have to use the sounds from the software that you use.
the mpk has great build quality. i have had it for a long time and it looks as good as new. i dont think it will break anytime soon and i think i will last for a long time. the weighted keys feel very good after you get use to it and the drum pads aswell. unless you miss use it this keyboard should last you a long time.
cant beat the price. its definately worth more than they ask for. you get a mixer, drum pads, and a weighted keyboard that is well built for one low great price.

Great for FL Studio, Cubase, Cakewalk etc.

Comments about Akai Professional MPK61 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

I have been working with FLStudio and like programs for years creating digital music for videogames, movies, etc.The keys take a little time to break in, but once you start feeling out the keyboard it is a great piece of technology. Mapping the knobs and sliders etc. is much more simple than some realize. For instance, in FLStudio you right click on the knob of the Plugin or parameter you want to map, click the option to map to controller, and simply touch/slide/spin the knob on the Akai keyboard you want to associate it to. Straight forward and easy.I have used similarly priced controllers from Yamaha and M-Audio and they simply do not feel as sturdy, or as accurate. The knobs and sliders on this particular model are very smooth, not graduated (don't click as you turn them) and feel strong even after a year of constant use.For those who are using FLstudio and like programs for recording or producing any type of music, the proper periferals make all the difference. This MIDI controller will open you up to a whole new world of music production and allow your creative ideas to flow more naturally.

Just not a good keyboard!

By Keyman-JJnw1

from Atlanta

Comments about Akai Professional MPK61 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

Pads are terrible and keys feel spongy and don't trigger sounds using natural hand weight, which means you have to force out chords and scales so playing for long periods of time can be very unpleasant.

A poorly carried out concept

By Major Keyz

from Houston/LA/Atl/NY

Comments about Akai Professional MPK61 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller:

This keyboard would have been the producers dream. Flaunting hands free control of your mixer, transport controls, drum pads, synths, eq, everything. They had the concept right but it failed in the execution. For my fellow keyboardist that actually play, the feel of the keyboard will be a instant turn off, for my fellow MPC users the feel of the pads they claim are "MPC style" will also rain on your parade. The key layout is strange and the key finish actually is uncomfortable to play boarder line hurts. The drum pad horrible, I did a mod on mine now they're fine. Overall if you are technically savvy and forgiving you can make this work but if not find something else.
