Pro-grade hybrid synthesizer.

Keylab 61 is a 61-note MIDI keyboard with velocity and aftertouch-sensitive keys that is designed to easily integrate into any studio and stage environment. Packed with the Analog Lab, the 61-key controller offers unparalleled hands-on experience over the 5000 TAE synthesizer presets.

This premium controller gives the fullest access to Arturia's Analog Lab software; its pre-assigned controls make it the perfect solution for plug and play sound creation. Once the software is connected to the keyboard, you can put your mouse away and experience the same workflow as on a traditional hardware synthesizer.

With Keylab 61, discover a new depth of access to the synth patches so you can really get in and customize the huge library of internationally designed presets. A new Multi mode allows several sounds to be played at the same time with the addition of effects, layer/split functions and a Chord mode. In addition, the keyboard (like all of the Keylab series) can be easily used in any other software context. Keylab also acts as a Universal Midi controller, compatible with any third party software and hardware.

Analog Lab Software

Analog Lab is an extremely powerful software synthesizer solution with over 5000 classic synthesizer sounds from Arturia's premier vintage analog recreations at your fingertips. It offers the ability to do fast and simple editing and customizing of your presets but it doesn't stop there; owners of the original individual synthesizer software products or the V Collection can open an Analog Lab sound and edit it in the original software, save it and then add it to their library.

Graphic Studio mode
Graphic Studio mode allows you to view the synthesizers and keyboards whose sounds make up the library in Analog Lab.

Sound Mode
When you need to find your sounds fast, choose the Sound Mode and you will have multiple options for choosing and selecting your sounds. The data filtering allows you to narrow your search and helps you find that special Bass or Pad sound you need. The updated browser allows you to rate the sounds to your own liking, choose favorites, arrange your columns and sort by name, type, sound designer, favorite, ratings, etc.

Multi Mode
Imagine being able to layer the rich pads of a CS-80 and Jupiter 8 together or being able to create a split with your signature Mini V bass on the bottom and a twisted Wurlitzer on top. The new multi mode allows you to create your own layers and splits in a fast and easy way. Just drag and drop your chosen sounds. You can further sculpt your sound by processing each layer with a plethora of effects. There are 15 high quality and unique effects that will allow you to create a wild variations on the existing sounds.

Live Mode
Drag and drop Sounds or Multis to create a selection of presets to be recalled quickly from your Arturia controller

The PADS tab on the lower hardware section of the screen will open when you click on it to reveal the number of pads that your Arturia controller has. You can then program these pads to play individual notes or chords. These can be set to send notes or chords from a list of standard chords and voicing's.

The Snapshot tab will allow you to access your favorite sounds immediately. Simple drag and drop your favorite MULTI or SOUND program onto the snapshot button and then you can recall that sound with a simple press.

Software Integration
Analog Lab is a virtual instrument, which means that sounds are processed within the computer. It can be used as a stand-alone application or as a plug-in within main sequencer programs including Steinberg Cubase, Digidesign Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Apple Logic Audio, MOTU Digital Performer, and Cakewalk Sonar.

Hardware integration
The user customizable MIDI mapping allows you to control the parameters you want to control with your favorite keyboard. Better than that, use an Arturia Keyboard controller and the interface will automatically change to show the knob and slider layouts so that you get a slick 1:1 user interface.

Compatibility Notice: OS X 10.11 El Capitan (release date 9/30/15)

Comments about Arturia KeyLab 61 Keyboard Controller:

Was shipped with a broken rotary encoder cap. Contacted Arturia to see if they could send a new one but have been waiting 3 weeks for a reply. Software update caused the keyboard not to work with OSX 10.6.8. They did reply quickly to help me fix this problem. Their are no midi maps for the V-Collection they have to be manually entered. Many pictures show the LCD screen as if it has the potential of displaying preset names with values in Hz, db and ms but it only show midi values of 0-127. The software is CPU consumer. 2.8 Quad-core with 6GB ram. CPU is at 50% to 127% most of the time. Too much distortion on most presets. Presets are not that interesting but splitting keyboard with two different vintage synth is cool. I love Arturia's software but had three bad experiences with their hardware. Minibrute had a broken rotary encoder. Spark LE touch pad has to be pushed very very hard or the filter skips and jumps and now another broken rotary cap. The chassi is well built, drum pads a good enough, keys are very thin and wobbly. I tried to work with the company to fix the rotary encoder rather than sending it back to be replaced and having to pay for shipping by me or the dealer but now reply. Go for Novation or Akai. They have more features and better quality. Buy a mini keylab if you want the software. Sending this one back.

Comments about Arturia KeyLab 61 Keyboard Controller:

Frame construction solid, aesthetically pleasing. Control knobs and sliders satisfactory quality. Although there have been online reports of issues with software/firmware install, mine was a breeze. Incredible number of sounds included with Analog Lab software and has tight integration with the Keylab controller, filters help assist with navigating through the sound library. Not sure if software ready for live prime time as it did crash once during usage (multi mode) but otherwise seems reasonable. No issues integrating with DAW software as a plug in (I am using Apple Mainstage 3). With my set up (macbook i5 2.5 GHz dual core with 16G RAM), CPU load did not appear to be a concern. A nice addition for studio work and I'm hoping will also help consolidate number of hardware synths needed for live performance. Bottom line, nice package of hardware midi controller and virtual instrument software for the price.

Comments about Arturia KeyLab 61 Keyboard Controller:

I got this one to replace a vintage keyboard that is on its last legs. Seemed like it would be the best choice to replace it. But two "Red Flags" right out of the box. The first being no headphone jack, or anything that can be plugged directly into amp or board. Second, there is a jack for a power supply. Not only isn't there a power supply included, but the voltage is 5V. (Whereas most equipment is on 9V or 12V---who in the heck carries such a power source?). There is---for many---an expectation that you should be able to plug in your headset and practice, but it's not the case here!!

I've read all of the reviews. Seems like the unit is well constructed. Only hardware issue is with the keys. Three of them went out of alignment on the second day. I can still play with them OK, but doesn't look good. And it shouldn't be that way, right out of the box! Everything else is perfect!

Software is more of an issue than the hardware. Sometimes you have remove it, and re-load it, to get it to work correctly. I have not much experience with MIDI, but it seems that the USB communications between the laptop and keyboard. are much better.

The learning curve is large---not an easy piece of equipment to learn. Instructions not so clear, either. But a lot of incredible sounds in this kit, and ironically a good value for the price. But the omission of audio jacks, the inability to perform without a computer, and the bad keys, negate any of the really good things about this device.
