Great pedal, solves a lot of my performance issues. Here's the preface to why I chose a MIDI pedal as my solution:

Start: I sometimes switch between acoustic and electric guitar on stage, and I sing. I've considered buying an electric guitar processor, acoustic guitar processor, and vocal processor all at some point. I can't afford to buy all that, especially with the way these technologies advance every few years.

The solution for a lot of people has been to use a computer to do effects, but I've had huge headaches trying to get my PC to work without audio dropouts or unplayable latency. I've since gotten my 2010 laptop to work with my audio interface flawlessly, at its lowest possible latency, with no dropouts thanks to countless hours of research through Google.

My next obstacle to tackle was being able to switch effects on my voice and guitar. Playing acoustic and singing while reading lyrics off my laptop, and while switching effects through my DAW proved to be huge pain using the laptop's touchpad mouse. The transitions between songs took too long. So, I needed footswitches to change effects on my laptop. My laptop does not have firewire, but has USB ports and my interface has a MIDI In and Out.

End of Preface: This pedal allows you to change patches, switch effects on/off, and use 2 expression pedals, with 10 banks to give you 100 patch/effects changes. It also comes with an often overlooked 2 1/4" jack switch relays that can be used as momentary or latching switches. There are no other pedals currently on the market that offer nearly same number of switches and pedals, with this kind of durable construction, at this price point. And this pedal has been out for over 6 years.

Just Google FCB1010 and you'll find many pages and forums discussing this pedal, firmware versions, and its functions with or without unofficial upgrades. If you know your way around a DAW, plugins, and your own computer, then this pedal is for you. Based on how much you're willing to learn and how much you invest in corresponding MIDI equipment, you can use this pedal to change effects, start and stop recording, use it as a full-fledged looper pedal with individual layers, expand the functional buttons of your synth, change pages of sheet music or lyrics on a screen, control lighting, whatever you can image a switch or expression pedal can do.

This will not work right out the box. I tried using this pedal the night before a gig, and that turned out to be a miserable fail. I have a lot to learn, about effects and their uses, how to route audio in my DAW, MIDI in general, but it's all worth it if I can improve the way I sound and can be a little more stress free on stage, without spending a ton of money I don't have.

This thing on the outside is a good product, I was very surprised with the external quality, and felt the value to be worth the money for what it does. Sadly I thought it could be programmed like a few more, slightly more expensive controllers, where you can have the bank pedals change the patch or bank, and the rest are just on/off pedals(stomp style). After hours of research, the best result I found was 5 pedals for patches, 5 for on/off for effects (stomp-pedal style). That simply doesn't cut it for me, especially if you have to buy some crazy Firmware upgrade (that's not even software oddly enough), void the warranty, then spend hours setting it up.If you know what your doing, and you understand its uses, this is surely a fine product. I Find it to be nothing more then a patch selector, with only 99 patches available, out of like 400 on most of my devices, that also, didn't cut it or I would have kept it just fr that. I'm giving this such a low rating, because its so dang old, they really need to come out with a new one already, and no one is telling the truth here. For software applications, some plugins, probably a few processors, it works pretty well. For me, I'm getting the Roland FC-300 or the Ground Control. they do so much more, you really get what you pay for. For my use, 2.5, for some 5.0.. really can't give a good rating personally, just do your research before you make the plunge. if your getting something boss, stick with Roland stuff, Something Line-6, stick with Line-6 boards. Not worth trying to save some money, if your losing time, as, time is money!.

works great- once you understand the programming

By Andrew Magnuson

from California

Comments about Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller:

I would rate this product really high for all of its features but it I have two real complaints.

The biggest drawback is the difficult programming. I am using this unit to control a lighting console that requires 'note on' midi signals. If you are using it for a guitar rig that uses 'program changes' it will probably work for you without so much hassle.

I am a very tech savy guy and this thing came close to being sent back. It comes with NO instruction manual. You must download it off the internet. That being said, the manual was clear as mud. After several days of agony (I'd think I had it figured out, but it wouldn't work) I finally found the answer on a forum on the internet. Yes...you have to hit the Note button TWICE!! Once to illuminate, the second time to flash..then 'Enter'.
Now it works for me. If only the manual had thoroughly explained this! Many people seem to give up and program it with thier computer (with a midi set up of course).

The second complaint I have is the FCB1010's enormous size. This thing is massive. When playing guitar I am not a pedal user and I am not use to having anything on the floor except a tiny channel switch. Having to drag this thing around to run the lights doesn't thrill me...but until I can afford a lighting guy, this will have to do.
One of the few footswitches that will do all three types of midi signals. Lots of features enabling it to handle simple to very complex rigs.
Haven't had it long but it seems to be built pretty robust (as much as can be with todays products being made with so much plastic). The body is metal, the pedals are plastic. The unit is very large and heavy for a footswitch.
There are only two pedals I can find that will send midi note signals. This unit costs half of what the other did so I guess it makes it an OK value. Getting through the programming is the hardest part.

It Takes a While to Start Out, But it's Worth It

Comments about Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller:

I purchased the Behringer FCB1010 because I needed to upgrade my recording arsenal. I'm a solo recording guitarist, and I record everything directly onto my PC thru a Line 6 Toneport audio-interface. When I was first starting out, I had a few pedals, but since I've moved into the realm of digital amp modeling, I hardly ever use them anymore. The only thing is, it's hard to record certain songs without the use of an expression pedal to control a wah-wah or pitch-shifter. Sure, there's plenty of ways to automate it in your DAW on your PC, but it's not quite the same. I also missed being able to turn on/off effects hands-free, but I really liked the way my computer-based amps and effects sounded. So I decided to find a MIDI pedal that would be able to control my amp sim and my DAW.Searching around on the internet, this seemed like the best choice for me. I really didn't want to pay more than a couple hundred for a pedal, and this seemed to have everything that I needed. 2 expression pedals and 10 footswitches (all of them programmable). I read that it was really hard to learn, but I figured I could handle it.When I first got the pedal, I was really frustrated trying to get it programmed correctly. That is, until I took someone's advice and looked up a video on youtube. The way you program the pedal is really hard to figure out on your own, but once you have someone show you, it's really not that hard and it actually makes sense. Now I use this for casual guitar playing at my PC to control my Line 6 Gearbox amp sim, as well as controlling and automating parameters in my DAW. It's really cool being able to hit the record, stop and play buttons with my feet! If you find yourself in the predicament that I was in, do yourself a favor and get this pedal. Once you figure it out, you'll find that it's really helpful!

Very Good Midi Pedal with Vamprom Bass eprom insid

Comments about Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller:

As the title suggests, I installed another eprom called the Vamprom Bass by Eureka Sounds. I read most of the review and decided this was the midi pedal I would get seeing I already had the Behringer Bass Vamp. The FCB1010 worked out of the box with the Bass Vamp. I did some research online and I say several people on bass forums talking about the Vamprom, so I picked up one from www.eurekasounds.com This new eprom I installed makes the FCB1010 worth a lot more that i payed on musiciansfriends. If you want to only use the Fcb1010 with one device live the 11rack from Avid, or the Vamp, go with the vamprom or the 11prom. If not stick with the factory eprom or purchase a UNO prom. Great purchase I recommend this device.

Comments about Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller:

at first I was a bit apprehensive about the fbc 1010 only because the pricing was so low. I read all the reviews and decided to go ahead and give it a shot. I use the fcb1010 with my g major 2 and couldn't be happier. At first I needed a few questions answered about its calibration but found the support people at Behringer both friendly and happy to assist..I don't believe for the price anything else can come close.

    I love it!

    By Christopher Mears

    from Texas

Comments about Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller:

    Get it.
Extremely versatile. I'm just using it to change sounds in my guitar rig and I am using both expression peddles. It looks like it does a lot more stuff that I will probably never use, like sending all types of MIDI information.
Very-very solid. Awesome. Feel like I could drive a tank over it.
I have not used any type of expression peddles before but I was anticipating something a bit stiffer. These, they stay in place when set, but they are very 'light' and almost too easy to move. But that's about the only thing I would change. Other than that it really does surpass my expectations.
    Extremely good value for money.

Comments about Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller:

I use the FCB1010 to control my AdrenaLinn 3. Since the AdrenaLinn 3 only has two switches on the face of it, you really need an external pedal to control it.When I first got the FCB1010, I really struggled with the software interface to program it. I never was able to really get what I wanted. But luckily, I found the AdrenaPROM by EurekaSound! (www.eurekasound.com) which is custom made for the FCB1010 & A3.Now I couldn't be happier. Effect Mode with state feedback, Preset Mode, Drum mode, Wah, Volume - it offers full control.

Comments about Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller:

I'm using the Behringer FCB1010 with the Behringer V-Ampire LX1200H Head. When I first got it, I was confused and it took me a few hours. Finally, somebody smakced me on the head and I usd my head and actually got it working. This thing is absolutely magnificent as a controller. The wah is terrible, and I don't really like the volume either. I fully disabled the wah because it is crap, but I kept EXPRESSION B on as an overall volume control to simply mute my amp when I have to switch guitar. Good to get if you wanna use it as a controller.

Comments about Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Footcontroller:

I use this with Cubase Artist quick controls to turn guitar effects on/off in VST Amp Rack. Works very well. It has far more switches than I would ever need for that particular purpose, but it's better than settling for a footcontroller that has only a few swtiches and then have to reprogram a switch in between songs.

The tricky part about this footcontroller is calibrating the pedals, but everything else is fairly easy. The footswitches aren't silent, but they're quieter than the typical mechanical true bypass switch on an effects pedal.

Definitely recommended if you want to turn guitar effects on/off in your DAW.

I sent one back for replacement and then thought the replacement was broken too -- the pedals didn't transmit MIDI data. Then I found a Behringer support PDF at http://music-group.force.com/PKB/servlet/fileField?id=0BE90000000CaXU that tells how to calibrate the pedals -- and it works fine.
